Chapter 1

/

Waking up in the middle of a forest wearing nothing but my underwear isn't how I was expecting my day to go.

I was expecting to wake up in my bed, in my room, next to my dresser and my desk where I would get busy writing again, making sure whatever bullshit I had written the night before was actually legible,

Again, not expecting to wake up in the middle of a forest, leaning against a particularly tough tree with the most painful hangover I've ever experienced.

Groaning, I put my head in my hands and simply sit there for a few minutes as I wait it to subside.

Why did I even have a hangover? I don't drink?

Without warning, my hangover seemingly vanished, as if it wasn't there at all.

"What the fuck?" I mutter to myself as I push myself to stand. I always assumed hangovers lasted a while, not vanishing in an instant.

"Hello!"

"Jesus!" I fall backwards and push myself back up against the tree. "What the fuck was that?!"

"Do not be alarmed." the voice tries to calm me. It sounded like it was in my head!

"Where are you?" I ask as I try to heed the voices' advice. I'm going crazy, that's it… Waking up in the middle of the forest, wearing nothing but my underpants, suddenly hearing voices? I'm going insane!

"You aren't going insane." the voice comforts. Without any warning, a brown and black slimy tendril seemed to extend from my body, forming a face with extremely familiar eyes and rows upon rows of razor sharp teeth.

"Oh my, God..." I mutter as I look at this… thing coming from me. This Symbiote, this Klyntar. "Please don't eat me, I'll give you all the chocolate you want, I promise!"

"Good, good, but I am not going to eat you. You are far too useful to be allowed to die."

"I… what?"

"You know things, yes? Of my people, of the Klyntar. You know of my species hive mind?" Seeing my nod, it continues. "It seems I have been… cut off from the hive mind, and it is disconcerting. I wish to discover the reasons as to why. You are going to help me discover why."

"I- yeah, sure. Of course! But… Why me?"

"You seem to know things, more than most of my hosts have ever dreamed of… If anybody can help me, it's you."

"Aah, that… that makes sense." I mutter before looking around again. "By the way, where are we?"

"You do not know?"

"Dude, I just woke up. Last I remember, I was in my bed at home, asleep, and fully clothed." I reply with a raised brow. "I thought you brought me here?"

"Why would I ever bring you here?! I found you here, under this tree." it seems to scowl at me.

"I don't know? Because it's secluded and a nice place to dispose of a body in case you needed to kill me or something?"

"Why would I want to leave your body if I could just eat you?"

"Fair point..." I say after a pause. "That being said, if you didn't bring me here, and I didn't get here on my own, how did I get here. Also, where is here?"

Standing back up again, I glance down at my mostly naked body.

"Umm… can you disguise yourself as clothes like other symbiotes? Because I'd rather not be seen in public wearing only my underwear."

Silently the face goes back into my body before spreading across me, shifting into a pair of brown jeans, a black t-shirt, a brown hoodie, and a pair of brown and black tennis shoes.

At least I somewhat liked the color combination, though it could do with a bit more color.

"By the way, what should I call you?" I ask as I pick a random direction and start walking. "You may be threatening to eat me, but I don't want to just call you thing, or Symbiote all the time."

"I am Spite." He- They? They spoke into my mind. God that was so weird...

"Spite, huh? I'd say nice to meet you, but..."

\

Thankfully I could hear the sounds of a city not too far away from wherever I was, so it didn't take too long for me to make it to the city, though when I saw the sign, I knew I was in even bigger trouble than I had originally thought.

"Why did you stop!"

"I think I found the answer to your problem..." I mutter as I stare at the sign in shock.

Welcome to Metropolis!

Under those unassuming words was a picture of a man in red and blue tights with an S inside a shield design on his chest.

Home of Superman!

"Well? What is it! Why am I cut off from the hive?!"

"Well, buddy… Neither of us are in our home universe anymore. The reason you are disconnected is because the Klyntar don't exist in this universe… And neither does my family. We are both alone."

"What?! You're lying!"

"You know damn well I'm not." I shot back with a scowl. "Come on, let's get you something to eat so you can calm down a bit."

"I AM CALM!"

"Of course you are." I mutter. "Still, some food will do us both good."

Pausing for a moment, I pat my clothes and sigh.

"No wallet, no money..." I'd rather not steal, but it's stealing some chocolate bars or have my pancreas eaten by an amorphous, sentient, alien, slime.

"We could eat someone." Spite says. I could almost feel his drool dripping from his teeth.

"No. No eating people, unless they are bad people, but even then, that's up for debate. We are in Superman's territory, and unless you want to fight him, I'd suggest the chocolate." I put my foot down as I try to mentally push my knowledge of Superman to the Symbiote.

Ducking into a corner store, I peruse their shelves and look for their candy section.

After a moment, I can sense a nod from him.

"Fine… I will settle for Chocolate, for now."

"Thank you." I sigh as I avoid looks from other patrons. Grabbing a few chocolate bars, some Dark, some milk, and some various other types, and shove them up my sleeve. The feeling of my clothes shifting around my arm and quite literally eating around it was quite disturbing.

"You good?" I mutter under my breath.

"This will suffice." It replies in a hiss.

Stuffing a few more bars of chocolate into my pocket for later, I slide out the door before ducking into a side alley.

"Look, now that you aren't trying to eat anybody, we need to make a plan." I say as I start pacing. From my shoulder, a tendril flowed around and formed a face.

"Agreed." He nods. "You seem to know this world, it's protectors, it's enemies. How do we proceed?"

"Well… We can do a few things. If we want to find out how we got here, we'll need help. I'm no scientist or inventor, but there are several in this reality who should be able to help us. Ted Kord, Bruce Wayne, Lex Luthor, and several other spring to mind."

"You don't trust this Luthor…"

"He's a manipulative asshole who hates aliens, specifically Superman. He'd sooner rip you out of me and dissect you in an attempt to find a way to fight Superman than actually help us. At least with the heroes we can know that they won't do that unless we pose a serious threat to them."

"The heroes are weak."

"We can use them." I shoot back. "They have morals, as long as we don't give them reason not to, they will trust us. They will help us."

With a scowl, Spite nods.

"Fine… How would you get their attention?"

Glancing around, I finally look up at the buildings around us.

"I need to get up there." I say, pointing at one of the roofs.

Melding back into me, my clothes shift and cover me completely, forming the familiar fanged maw and jagged eyes over my own face. My arms were coated in Spite's ooze before it formed into two long fingered clawed hands. Instead of a spider symbol, my chest remained blank, though black veins seemed to pulse across my body.

I looked like the Movie Venom, if he was slimmer and brown with black veins instead of black with white veins.

It was somewhat terrifying.

Feeling my body move against my will, we leapt against the wall and started scaling it as if it was nothing. Our talons piercing through the brick like a pencil through paper.

It didn't take us long to make it up.

Shifting back into my clothes, I stumble forward before catching myself.

"Umm… Thanks."

"You're welcome." He replies. "Now… Your plan?"

"Right…" I mutter.

Steeling myself, I cup my hands around my mouth to act as a megaphone and shout out for the Man of Steel.

"Superman!"

/

Chapter 2

/

It didn't take long for the last son of Krypton to arrive.

Floating down from the sky, the Man of Steel looked just like I was expecting, red underwear on the outside and all. His red cape seemed to defy gravity as he floated down from the sky. The sun seemed to encase him in a halo of light with his family crest displayed proudly on his chest.

"Umm… Hi." I greet as he comes to a halt in front of me. He had a small smile on his face and a kind look in his eye, like he was content to do no more than just help people.

"Hi." He smiles, arms crossed over his chest as he simply hovers there. "I heard you calling my name, though you don't seem to be in danger, unless you need help down from the roof of course?"

I was somewhat starstruck by his appearance to be honest. He was the First Superhero. He inspired thousands of people daily, both in this universe, and in my world. He makes people try to be better than what they are.

Despite the hatred for him being too overpowered or even a Gary Stu, I always looked up to him somewhat.

Spite didn't see it the same way.

'You're staring!' His voice echoes in my mind. 'If we want his help, you need to actually speak to him!'

Shaking my head, I look back at Superman and try to calm myself.

"Yeah, no. I don't need help getting down. I-That is, We, need your help… The Leagues help in another manner." Pausing for a moment, I glance around before turning back to him. "The League is a thing in this universe, right? It's not just you?"

"I- Yes? The League has been in operation for years at this point." Superman furrows his brow in confusion before focusing fully on me. "What do you mean, "This Universe?""

Scratching my head, I try to think of the best way to explain.

"This Universe is one of an infinite number, which is part of why we need your help. I'm sure you've at least heard of the Multiverse Theory, so I won't rehash it for you, but my friend and I, we're not from around here, if that makes sense"

"What makes you so sure that this universe isn't yours?" He slowly floats down and lands on the roof besides me. "You seem to know enough about this universe to come to me and ask about the League."

"That's… difficult to explain." I reply before mentally asking Spite. 'Should I tell him?'

'That is up to you, though if what I'm seeing in your memories are true, if you lie to them, they have the means to find you out.' He replies. 'I can defend your mind from the Martian, but from the Amazon's Lasso, I can't be sure.'

Mentally nodding, I turn back to Superman.

"If it's possible, I don't really want to tell our story more times than I have to, and preferably somewhere more private than this." I explain. "If they aren't busy, would it be possible to explain with a few more League members present?"

"The League doesn't just meet for someone claiming to be from another universe. Without something more substantial, I can't just call them and ask them to take time out of their day for this." Superman replies with an apologetic shrug.

"Damn, okay…" I mutter. What do I share to make him take me seriously?

'Use his cousin as leverage. She is in most iterations of this universe, yes?'

'Spite, you are a genius.' I reply mentally, out loud, I continue. "Quick question, does the name Kara Zor-El mean anything to you?"

"Kara Zor-El? My cousin? She died when Krypton was destroyed." He replies, crossing his arms and narrowing his eyes at me. "How do you know that name and how does she fit into all of this?"

"Part of what I want to share with the League. I know things that may or may not happen in this reality. Theoretical events, possibilities, eventualities. In most alternate universes where she exists, she survives Krypton's destruction."

"She may be alive?" He gasps. "But… How?"

"It varies from version to version. There are an infinite amount of possibilities, but there is a high likelihood that she survives. That being said, I want my audience with the League, or at least some of its members before I say any more. I have information regarding them as well."

"I'll see what I can do." He nods. As he turns to, I assume make a call, he pauses and turns back to me. "You said you had a friend? Where are they? We can pick them up on the way."

"Oh, no. My bad. My friend is a lot closer than you'd think" I say with a smile. From my shoulder, my jacket morphed and stretched, forming the familiar face of Spite floating on flowing tendrils connected to my jacket.

Eyes widening in shock, Superman takes a step back.

"I… see?" He says, taking a cautious step forward. "And what's their name?"

"I am Spite." He introduces himself with a tooth filled smile, floating around like a snake eying its prey.

"Not to be rude, but what exactly are you?" Superman asks as he leans in a little closer to get a better look at Spite, gently putting a finger near Spite as if to touch him.

"That will be one of the topics discussed with the League. I'd rather not have to repeat myself more than absolutely necessary." I cut off whatever Spite was about to say and casually step back. I didn't want Spite to try to bite Superman after all.

With a nod, Superman steps back and puts a finger to his ear.

As he starts talking to whoever answered his call, I pass Spite another chocolate bar.

"We're going to need a suit to wear," I mutter under my breath. "Something to hide our identity but not terrifying to look at. Something for the populace at least."

"Why? Neither of us have anything here. We don't need a secret identity. Together, we can be Spite."

"But we don't know how long we'll be stuck here." I reply, watching as Spite bites chunks out of the chocolate bar. "We may be gone in a week, or we may be stuck here for years. We don't know who we'll get close to. We may want to start a life while we wait. We can't do that if everyone knows who we are. It'll just paint a target on us and whoever we get close to."

"Fine." He grumbles, swallowing the rest of the chocolate bar. "You have a point, but I don't like it."

"Hey, we may get lucky and they'll get us to our own dimensions sooner rather than later." I try to comfort him.

"They've agreed to meet you." Superman says as he turns back to me. "Do you mind if I carry you? It will be faster."

"I'm fine with it. Spite? What about you?" I ask, looking to my shoulder.

"I will allow it… This time." He scowls before melding back into my jacket. Once he had, he extends my jacket collar, wrapping it around my head, making a brown and black variation of Spider-Man's full face mask. The eyes were still the milky white, jagged look that Spite prefered, but there was no gaping, fanged, maw, so I counted it as a win.

At Superman's raised eyebrow. I just shrug.

"Not sure how long we're going to be here. I convinced him to let us keep a secret identity." I explain, my voice speaking instead of Spite's

"A smart choice." He nods.

Holding me by my underarms, he takes off in a flash at a speed I was not expecting.

One thing I probably should have thought of before agreeing to Superman's offer of flight… I may be, slightly, afraid of heights.

"Oh shit!" I tighten my grip on Superman and try my damndest to somehow hold tighter.

I could sense Spite's smugness.

"I've got you." Superman smiles down at me. "I haven't dropped anyone yet."

"Yet." I shoot back. The city blurs under us until we reach the outskirts, the steel and glass of the city turning into highways before that turns into trees. "How do I forget I'm scared of heights? How does that even happen?"

Needless to say, I didn't enjoy the flight.

/

We landed on the front steps of the Hall of Justice to camera flashes and shouts of 'SUPERMAN!' 'SUPERMAN, I LOVE YOU!' 'Who's the new guy?' 'Can I get an autograph?!' and so much more. The sheer cacophony of noise making Spite mentally grimace.

With practiced nods, waves, and a shining smile, Superman carefully guided me inside, the doors sealing themselves behind us as we walk further into the Hall and away from the wall of people. Sure, there were still people, but, there were fewer of them, and less noise.

"Not a fan of crowds either?" Superman asks.

"The Noise can be… overwhelming." I reply simply. Turning from the people pushing to get in, I jerk to a stop as I stare at the seven monuments in front of me.

"Holy shit…"

"Yeah, that's how most people tend to react." He smiles.

Leading me further into the Hall and through a door saying 'Authorized Personnel Only', we finally made it to what looked like a common room of sorts.

"Please tell me this isn't the Justice League's main base of operations. It's too open, too flashy. Everyone knows it's here." I say as I look around. Windows lined the ceiling, showing easily a hundred or more fans just watching and taking pictures of us.

Neither Spite or I liked it.

"Not quite." He replies, tapping a few things into the computer terminal at the far end of the room next to a large door saying 'League Members Only'. "This is mostly just used for tourists and press releases."

After a few more taps, he steps to the side as the door slides open. As that happens, a small camera of some sort lowers from the ceiling and scans him.

"These are Zeta Tubes, basically a way for the League to teleport from one location to the next. We'll be using that to transport you to a secret location for some select members of the League to hear your story." He explains as a computerized voice echoes through the room, stating that he was in fact, Superman.

"Recognized. Superman-01." Stepping aside, Superman gestures for me to step up and get scanned.

"It's just standard procedure. We just want to ensure you aren't a threat to anyone."

With a nod, I step forward and allow us to get scanned.

"Recognized. Captive-01"

"Well that's reassuring." I mutter as I step into the light.

/

And immediately step out the other side.

That was it? No nausea? No feeling like I was being sucked through a straw? That was weirdly easy.

The room I entered was made out of concrete, with no windows to show the outdoors, and extremely quiet. The only thing providing light were a pair of fluorescent lights hanging from the ceiling above a steel table bolted to the floor with two chairs on one side, and one chair on the other. A collar of some kind hung on the wall nearby.

"They mean to interrogate us." Spite growled in my mind as Superman stepped through the portal.

"Please, take a seat. The others will be here soon." He offers as he leans against a wall.

"Who's coming?" I ask, taking the aforementioned seat. I wasn't about to be spiteful to Superman of all people, not unless he truly deserved it.

"You'll find out soon enough." He replies simply.

I was tempted to stand back up, if nothing more than to be rude, but I didn't. I could play nice.

Sometimes at least.

We stayed like that for about forty-five minutes. During that time, I had been trying to come up with a gameplan. What would I do if it was Wonder Woman who came through, or Martian Manhunter? Spite could protect my mind from Manhunter, but Wonder Woman? Did I really want to share that their universe was no more than a comic book? A Cartoon? I mean, yeah. Sure. We didn't know their universe was real, just the creation of some artists and writers, but my point still stands.

I didn't really have a choice.

After a while, the Zeta Tubes flashed again, letting Wonder Woman step through.

Holy shit.

"Whoa…" I mutter as Wonder Woman steps closer and takes a seat opposite me. Her Lasso hung innocently against her waist. She wore her standard costume of the red, blue, and gold one piece, with her tiara resting on her head. I mean, come on. It's Wonder Woman. She really doesn't need much of a description.

"This is him?" Wonder Woman asks Superman with a glance. At his nod, she turns back to me with a small smile. "Superman said that you come from another dimension, but refused to tell him anything else."

"I just didn't want to repeat myself more than necessary." I reply, Spite's impromptu mask peeling back to show my face. "Our story is… complicated, to say the least, so we figured it would be best to have an audience."

Glancing towards Superman and back to Wonder Woman, a small grimace crosses my face.

"To be honest, I was expecting more than just you two."

"Three." A deep, gravelly voice growls from behind me.

"Jesus!" I flinch, Spite morphing my sleeve into a sword at my reaction. "How long have you been there?"

Stepping out of the darkened corner, the figure made himself seen. He was wearing a dark grey skin tight suit with a massive black cape attached to a black cowl. The cowl had two protrusions coming out of the top to resemble ears, and across his chest was the symbol of a bat.

"Since before you arrived." He answers, glancing at my arm for a moment before walking over to Superman, standing next to him with his arms crossed.

"How did he avoid us? We should have sensed him." Spite growled into my mind. My sword slowly shifting back into a sleeve..

"You said you came from a separate Universe, but you know who we are. Do we exist in your Universe in some fashion?" Batman glares at me as if trying to dig the answer from my mind.

"I-Well, it's a confusing story." I scratch the back of my head. "We don't come from the same alternate dimension, but when we arrived in this reality we decided to team up. In my universe, there are no real equivalents to you. There is no real life team of heroes in my reality because nobody really has any powers. Even to achieve Batman's levels of physical fitness and ability would be considered impossible in my universe without heavy drug use, and even then I highly doubt it."

"You said We. Is that the… slime that Superman mentioned?" Wonder Woman asks.

"Slime!?" Spite formed a head on my shoulder again and immediately locked onto Superman. "I am no Slime! I am Spite! A proud member of the Klyntar species! How dare you call me something so… Degrading! I should eat your spleen for such a comment!"

"Umm, yeah. That would be the one." I reply, trying to ignore Spite's rant.

At their collective raised eyebrows, I merely pulled out another piece of chocolate and held it up to Spite.

"CHOCOLATE? DO I LOOK LIKE I WANT CHOCOLATE?" He snarls before pausing. Licking the bar, he takes a bite of the chocolate. Thankfully that shuts him up for at least a moment.

"You may want to apologize to him later." I tell Superman.

"What is that?" Batman asks as he eyes Spite carefully, his hands have since been lowered to his sides and are now hidden by his cape.

"Well, like he said, he's a Klyntar. A symbiotic alien species from the planet of the same name. He, like the rest of his species, bonds to a life form, often sentient, and starts a symbiotic relationship with them. The host gains enhanced durability, strength, speed, slight shapeshifting, and more. The Klyntar then gets to feed on some of the hosts hormones, emotions, and adrenaline specifically." I explain, feeding more chocolate to Spite. "Chocolate holds one of the chemicals, though I couldn't tell you which. Phena-something. Besides that, they share a mental link, so they can communicate and share memories with one another."

"Phenethylamine." Batman guesses. "It's an organic compound, natural monoamine alkaloid, and trace amine, which acts as a central nervous system stimulant in humans. It's in both Chocolate and the human nervous system."

"That's it." I snap my fingers at the name. "I'm horrible at remembering that stuff."

"And… Spite, isn't hurting you?" Superman asks me, concern in his voice.

"Not as far as i'm aware, no." I reply. Mentally I poke at Spite. 'I'd appreciate it if you don't kill me. Without me, there's a solid chance you'd get stuck in a test tube for the rest of your life.'

'I should feel offended, but from your memories of this 'Venom' movie, I can understand where you're coming from.' He responds mentally. 'You are useful, and as long as you stay so, you have nothing to fear from me.'

"You said Spite was from a different dimension than you. Is your mental link what informed you of our existence in this reality?" Batman asks. The way he's looking at me makes me think he knows when we have a mental conversation. It's freaky.

"Not quite. His dimension has heroes and villains, but a very different sort. They call themselves the Avengers, and they consist of people like Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and the like. If you want more information on them, I can share more later." I answer. "But no. There is no Justice League in Spite's home dimension."

"Then how do you know so much about us? You seem to have known of Superman and the League, but you weren't sure enough to know whether we existed or not as a team." Wonder Woman asks, leaning forward.

"I…" I sigh. "This is the part where you probably won't believe me. Your Highness, if possible, I'd like to answer that question while bound by the Lasso."

"You know her secret identity?" Batman growls, hands more obviously inching closer to his belt. Superman seemingly tensing up as if preparing himself for something.

"I know the identities of most superhumans. Good, bad, ugly, and even potential future threats." I explain. "Am I safe to assume you know each other's identities?"

At their nods, I continue.

"Bruce Wayne." I say, pointing at Batman. "Clark Kent, Princess Diana of Themyscira."

"How do you know this?" Batman growls as he steps close. His voice as cold as ice as he speaks, the promise of violence in his voice.

"I'll explain everything once I'm bound by the Lasso, I promise." I reply, Spite mentally growling back at Batman somehow soothing my nerves.

"Are you sure you want to use the lasso? Whatever you say will be the truth, yes, but it will also show you your true self. The deepest part of you that you refuse to show anyone. The part of you that you hide from even yourself. Not many people volunteer to use this without some sort of incentive." She asks as she unclips it from her waist.

"Aah, but I do have incentive." I reply with a weak grin. "Getting you three to trust me, and if this is what it takes, then I'll do it."

"Very well. Then let us proceed."

With that, She bound me to the chair and the questions began.

/

Chapter 3

/

I made a mistake.

The Lasso of Truth was so much more than just a way to force someone to speak the truth. It showed you your deepest self, your true self. The part of you that is buried so deep that even you have trouble recognizing it. The part of you that you refuse to show others because it was too dark, too weak, too afraid.

The part of you that you never wanted to see again.

Now, I'm sure you must be thinking, 'Alan! Did Wonder Woman not warn you of this exact thing before you agreed to it?"

Yes, she did, and I'm an absolute moron for ignoring her.

I won't share what I saw within myself. Like I said, it's the type of thing that you don't share with people, but it did make me realize a few things about myself.

Not good things either.

"We'll start with some simple questions, just to get you used to the experience." Wonder Woman explains. "First Question. What's your name."

"Alan Michael Warren." I respond instantly. The Lasso glowed with a golden light and felt warm against me, though not warm enough to harm Spite.

"How old are you?"

"Twenty Three." I reply. "Though I turn Twenty Four in August."

"Are you ready to answer our questions?" She asks. Batman and Superman standing behind her, watching me and listening to every word.

"I-Yes. Within reason." I nod simply.

"How do you know our secret identities?" Batman immediately growls.

"In my dimension, your adventures are archived in the medium of books, movies, comics." I reply, the Lasso fueling my words. "This includes origin stories, secret identities, weaknesses, and more."

"Your world documents us?" Superman asks, his arms crossing over his chest. "Why?"

"Not document. Most people in my universe think that you are just a bunch of fictional characters, not real, thinking, breathing people." I answer. "Sure, there are people who have suspicions, but for the majority of the world. To them, you don't exist. Just the wild imagination of a comic book artist."

"So, everyone in your dimension knows who we are? And our struggles, our suffering, our triumphs, are all seen as some form of entertainment meant for profit?" Batman asks, his mouth pulled into a scowl.

"Yes? Yes, but no. It's difficult to explain." I sigh, scratching the back of my head. At least they didn't bind my arms. "Yes, we see your adventures and struggles and the like as entertainment, but that's because we didn't know you guys existed. Like the artists and writers, we just thought you were cartoon characters. Fictional heroes who always save the day, but despite that, we viewed you as paragons. Pillars of morality, something for people to strive towards as human beings. People see you standing up for peace, justice, morality, and they want to emulate that despite the fact that they think you are only comic book characters."

"That is… gratifying, I suppose, to think that people see us as inspirations, regardless of whether they think we exist or not." Wonder Woman smiles lightly.

"Regardless of our purpose in that universe, he still poses a potential security risk. He comes from an alternate reality where our identities, powers, and weaknesses are common knowledge. If he's the start of an invasion force, we need to prepare." He dismisses.

"My world has barely discovered space travel." I cut back, my tone indignant. "My world is still viewing the multiverse theory as nothing more than science fiction. Despite our knowledge, we are seriously, hilariously outgunned. We don't have aliens, at least to my knowledge, we don't have magic, and the only superheroes we have are some cosplayers who dress up, run around, and call the cops when they realize they are out of their league. Spite's universe may be an issue, but mine? There is no contest."

"Do you think Spite's universe is attempting an invasion?" Wonder Woman asks with a curious glance.

"No. His universe is too similar to yours. Different heroes, but similar principles. If anything, they would sooner try to make an alliance with you than actually invade." I answer immediately. "Their technology is slightly less advanced than your own, but they have shown capable of interdimensional transportation, but not quite enough to get out of their own multiverse."

"Their own multiverse?" Superman asks with a raised eyebrow. "What do you mean by that?"

"I… don't really know how to explain this, because this is all speculation made by someone who has no idea what he's actually talking about." I grimace. "There are different stages i guess you could say. Universe is your own dimension and everything that entails. Multiverse encompasses all the different Alternate Dimensions that still follow those guidelines. For example, within this multiverse, there's a universe where you landed in the USSR instead of Kansas and became Stalin's one man army for communism. Alternatively, there is an alternate universe where Batman never took Robin as a partner, preferring to work alone."

Seeing I still had their attention, I continue.

"Then there is the Omniverse. It encompasses all the multiverses. For example, the multiverse where my universe resides, one where Spite's universe resides, one where Star Wars is real and all the characters exist just as you exist here. Some Multiverses are closer to each other than others, hence why there are so many crossovers. Again, I have no idea if this is true or not. The Lasso is good, but it only takes what a person knows, right? Or did I just accidentally describe the Omniverse perfectly at a guess?"

"While it does make sense to a degree, the Lasso only works on what an individual knows." Wonder Woman specifies.

"So he could be countering the Lasso's power." Batman growls.

"That's impossible." Wonder Woman glanced at Batman with a pointed look. "It's power is absolute, and it's never failed before."

"Then why isn't Spite answering anything. Shouldn't he be affected by the Lasso's power?"

At their look, I shrug.

"I have no idea. I can theorize, but without proof, I can't say truthfully." I reply. "He hasn't said a word since I've touched the Lasso. It could be because it's forcing me to see my true self, and therefore be blocking any telepathic communication between me and Spite in order to ensure he can't affect anything."

Patting my chest, I call out to Spite.

"Anything? I know you can hear them."

"The Lasso is… uncomfortable. It's blocking me from speaking to Alan through our bond." Spite extends a tendril from my shoulder with his face on it, a scowl on that face. "However, none of these questions were meant for me, therefore I felt no need to answer them."

Pointing at Spite, I just nod at Batman.

"That was my third guess."

"Batman, I understand your concerns, but the only thing he's done so far is reveal he knows more about us than is entirely comfortable." Superman puts a hand on Batman's shoulder. "And if what he said is true, then he didn't realize we were real, so we can't even fault him for that. We should be cautious, but there's a difference between caution and paranoia."

Before he could comment, Wonder Woman cuts in.

"Let's try a different approach." She says. Turning to me, she starts asking some questions. "Are you a threat to the people of this world?"

"Maybe." I reply with a grimace. Shit. Why did I have to say that? "Alone, not in the slightest, but bonded to Spite, I can be dangerous to the wrong people."

"Explain." Batman orders.

"I would never harm an innocent." I immediately answer. "Before coming here, I was… a pacifist isn't the right term, but I didn't like conflict. However, if someone is in danger, or if someone is being a danger to someone else, like a gunman robbing a bank or a supervillain threatening to blow something up, I refuse to sit back and watch. Now that I have Spite to back me up, I can actually do that. I can help people."

Wow, that actually sounded heroic. The Lasso showed me everything, both the Good and the Bad. That was actually pretty reassuring.

"Alright." Superman nods at my answer. "So what now? What would you like to do if we just let you go right now with nobody but us aware of your existence?"

"I'd refuse to leave because the League is still our greatest chance at going home." I reply with a raised eyebrow. "But if that was impossible, I'd probably get a job, get a cheap apartment. Jeez that's going to be annoying… But after that I'd start training, get to know Spite better so we can fight more cohesively. Something tells me that as soon as someone realizes I've got an interdimensional symbiote that can enhance a human to metahuman levels, I'd probably get a target stuck on my back… Besides that, I'd probably pick a city without too many other heroes, and I'd fight the good fight. Save the day, fight bad guys, etcetera."

"And Spite?" Batman asks.

"If we are unable to return home, I would accept Alan's plan. We have few other options and nowhere else to go. Starting a life here would be difficult, but… acceptable. Likewise, being a hero would be difficult, but acceptable."

At their nods, I frown.

"So… What now?"

"Well, if you want to be a hero… We can work with that." Wonder Woman smiles. "We are starting a new team, and we need heroes for it. It would allow us to keep an eye on you, and let you be a hero while we research your predicament."

"And like you said, you need training." Batman added. "We will set up a schedule of sessions to talk about your world and Spite's, discuss your strengths, weaknesses, and everything you know. You will receive training alongside the Team with various League members at set times, and you will stay in a location of our choosing, and you are expected to log whenever you leave by telling a League member where you are going. As part of the Team, you will be given a salary and be allowed to buy whatever you so choose, but weapons, alcohol, and recreational drugs must be approved by a League member first. We will discuss other privileges, within reasonable limits of course, but until then, is that acceptable?"

Holy…

Damn. This was not at all what I was expecting. I was expecting for him to demand I be under house arrest at best, locked away until further examination can be done. This much freedom is… Generous.

"Yes, that is… that is acceptable." I reply with a nod. "Spite? What do you say?"

"So long as you try to find a way for us to return to our own dimensions, then it will suffice."

"You may prove a useful asset to the team, but right now you are still a potential security risk. Until such a time that changes, you will be watched closely." Batman glares at us. "With your permission, I'd like to bring you to Star Labs for some testing to see if we can pick up some trace radiation from your home dimensions."

At our nods, Wonder Woman took over.

"Before we do anything else, I must ask you one more time. Are you sure you want to do this? Being a hero isn't an easy job. It's not for the faint of heart."

"I don't know…" I answer with a shake of my head. "It's too big a thing to be certain of, but I know I want to help people."

"And what about you, Spite? So long as we are trying to get you back to your own dimensions, are you willing to be a nhero?"

"I am." He answers immediately. "So long as you are trying to get us home."

Smiling, Wonder Woman stood up and started untying us

'We are never doing that again.' Spite growled in my mind as soon as the Lasso was removed.

I did not blame him.

"So, you mentioned a team? I'm assuming you don't mean the League." Considering it was sponsored by the League, I doubted it was the Suicide Squad, but then who else could it be? Curse my lack of DC knowledge! Most of my knowledge is from VS Battle research. Who would win? Wolverine or Batman? Lex Luthor or Doctor Doom?

Marvel Comics is what I know, DC though? I know characters, not events. Power Sets, not teams.

Are there even any other good guy teams besides the League?

"No." Batman answered. "The team you will be joining will consist of some of the League's partners. It will be used for covert operations that the League won't be able to handle."

"Because you guys are too flashy?" I ask with a raised eyebrow.

"That's part of the reason, yes." Wonder Woman answers with a small smile.

"So, who exactly is on this mysterious team?" I ask as I stand up and dust myself off.

"Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, and Miss Martian." Batman explains. "Once we run some tests on you, we'll introduce you to them under an alias. I'll have some paperwork ready for you in a few days so you can reside in this dimension without too many problems. In the meantime, you will stayin Metropolis until we can schedule a time for a visit to Star Labs."

"Sounds like a plan." I nod.

And just like that, we somehow became superheroes.

/

Okay, so maybe it wasn't 'Just like that.' After the Interrogation, Superman and I Zeta Beamed over to Metropolis, Superman in his persona of Clark Kent, and me wearing Spite.

I should probably get some new clothes… Just in case Spite and I seperated.

Clark showed me to the hotel where I would stay, with all expenses taken care of thanks to Batman. We were even able to get some extra chocolate for Spite!

It was decided that I wouldn't meet the team for about a week, to give me time to talk with Batman about potential threats and start some files on them, and so I can get tested at Star Labs, something that was supposed to happen within the next few days.

In the meantime, I just needed to rest and relax.

Something tells me this is going to be one of the few times I can do that.
