Long way to go

Chen Xi did not expect Lin Ye to ask her that question so he looked at her in a daze. Where she was sitting, the lights were dim but they still lit her quite well.

He remembered that she had a surgery to perform some hours ago. Her body looked tired. He did not want to burden her with his dreams right now.

He walked over to her and ignoring her gaze, put his coat on her shoulders. He looked at her keenly, "How did the surgery go?"

Lin Ye froze, she had not expected him to ask her about the surgery at all.

She got up to put some warm water in a cup but he beat her to it. Chen Xi held a tumbler with warm water in front of her.

Lin Ye was not used to someone taking care of her so his actions were a bit foreign to her.

Lin Ye smiled discreetly. This actually felt…good, the feeling of being taken care of.

She took a sip of her water and answered, "It was a bit difficult at first but luckily, it went well."

Chen Xi smiled. The air around them was warm.

He knew that she was having trouble believing in him but he would give her time to get used to him and everything. He was also waiting for an opportune time to introduce Chen Xiao Ye to her.

He looked at her once again, "I know my presence has brought you a lot of trouble…"

Lin Ye looked at him, surprised. She had not expected him to try and explain himself either but she still listened to him.

Chen Xi continued, "…I don't mean anything with this, I just want to be close to you. I know you don't believe in anything that I say but be patient with me, I will tell you everything one day and explain it slowly to you but I hope you wont send me away from you…"

Lin Ye became dazed, "What if one day you realize that I am not the person that you have been looking for?"

Chen Xi chuckled, "Believe me, it is you. I know you have your own suspicions but you will understand everything one day."

Lin Ye did not say anything anymore but she believed that this was the time to have all her questions answered. She moved over to the couch and asked Chen Xi to sit down next to her.

Chen Xi was surprised but he smiled and sat down.

Lin Ye had a lot of questions but she still started with the most obvious one, "In case I am truly the one you are looking for which is impossible, how was I back then?"

Chen Xi studied her. He was suddenly taken back to the first moment they had met.

Back then she had shown up unannounced at his work and declared to him in front of everyone, "I like you, Chen Xi, let us date!"

He had rejected her but privately but she kept on insisting until he agreed.

He had not liked her behavior then but she kept pestering him until all he could see was her. She was the one who had fallen for him first but he had fallen for her harder.

He had asked her once if she ever felt embarrassed doing what she did but her answer had shaken him to the core. Back then she had said to him, "It is you that I like and only you that I will have, why should I feel embarrassed for that?"

Her statement did not make sense to him but over time he came to understand what she meant. By the time he did, she was already gone.

He treated this like a second chance granted from the heavens.

Chen Xi explained to Lin Ye slowly but just like before, she did not believe him.

The full moon shone through the windows beautifully. It highlighted the silhouettes of the two people inside. Chen Xi's gaze never left Lin Ye even for one moment.

It may have been the fatigue or the relaxed state she was in but Lin Ye suddenly felt asleep. Chen Xi covered her with a blanket he found on the side and bent down to place a soft kiss on her forehead.

In between his hope and disappointment he whispered, "We still have a long way to go Hua."
