2 Not guilty

Morning approached sooner and Grandma was already up. She did some of the house chores and left the remaining for the Children.

The clock struck 5 am, warning her that she needed to awake the children, now. She walked towards what looked like a 'kiddie's room' then she gently opened the door and went to their bed.

"Wake up, both of you!" She sternly screeched causing Annabelle to open her eyes.

"Grandma what time is it?" Anna rubbed her eyes and then stretched her arms.

"It's 5:30am. We need to be quick" Her eyes moved to Brandon. "And wake your lazy brother for me while you're at it"

Grandma smiled and went to her room. Annabelle stood up and threw a pillow to Brandon.

"Get up bro"

"..."

"Wake! uupp!" She was now tapping her brother vigorously. He stayed still. After several attempts, He was still in that laid position.

"GRANDMA BRANDON IS STILL SLEEPING!" Her Grandmother entered the room almost immediately.

"He's pretending again" She shaked her head in disbelief.

"Brandon get up" She also made effort and stirred the motionless body. As if loosing strength, she checked his pulse. Grandma felt agitated after not sensing even a heartbeat and then she realized something.

Her daughter was diagnosed with some kind of health disorder when she was younger, but was that what was wrong with Brandon? Grandmother started to cry piercingly.

"G-Grandma what's wrong?" Anna was now panicking.

"Brandon...he..he is dead." The Old woman wept nonstop.

The words echoed in Anna's ears. Being 14, She understood everything. Surprisingly she didn't wail or cry.

"Granny wipe your tears. This was meant to happen and he's in a safe place" was what Anna managed to say.

"I thought you'd be more mournful than me.. How can you just be this calm after your own brother's death! You caused this, right? I know you did!" The infuriated woman let out.

"Believe me I'm terribly in pain but there's nothing I can do. Life will still continue" Optimistic Annabelle replied. "Get out!"

"what?" "I said get out of my house! I think I might be the next person on your list. Leave or I'll make you leave" She emotionally lashed out.

"We're famil-" "You're just like your mother.. Kind yet insensible. You've always been acting weird to me, and I know you're one of them!" "One of wha-" Before Anna could speak, Her Grandmother dragged her out. "I didn't do anything wrong!" Annabelle kept on screaming on their way out. When they finally came outside, Grandma pushed Annabelle to the floor.

"I hope the vampires eat you alive"

And with that, the door was shut closed leaving poor Annabelle having no clue where to go to.

"Oh Lord, you know I'm very well not guilty and I'm sure grandma didn't mean what she said. I just need to know where I can stay for the night." She sighed, walking aimlessly on the road side.
