12 Ev-o-lu-tion

During my trip back to my cave, I wondered what evolution choices there would be. How many? What types? Are they strong enough for the upcoming war? I sighed. Worrying about something that hadn't happened wouldn't do anyone good.

I walked into my cave, curling up in the corner where I was comfortable. Only then did the system prompt me.

[Evolve now?]

[Y/N]

I sucked in a controlled breath.

...

Dread felt giddy.

The snake gave up on ruling over the world after Famine's demise, but when this boy had come into her cave and ignited her passion, she had to admit she felt excited. She overwatched the preparations with the boy, holding a sword, next to her. Down below, animals and humans alike fought -only the best could survive and become a part of the second wave. The weak would be in the first wave -unless the training didn't kill them first.

"You actually managed to turn your fat humansss into sssomthing of worth." Dread said. The boy ignored her. Around his neck was a necklace, adorned by green orbs and dominated by a green sculpture of a snake.

Dread's talisman: The Emerald Snake.

They had dug it up a day before, -the talisman having been thought to be lost after the first war, and was said to be the most powerful among the talismans. Mind-Controlling.

Or at least that was how the humans followed Dread. The snakes followed out of fear. A wagon pulled up beside them. Getting to a mountain of this height was hard, and even more so with the disrupted forest around them.

"Do you have it?" The boy asked. The messenger who pushed the wagon nodded. Taking of the cloth covering the prize, he revealed a golden ring with a tiger blazed onto it.

Famine's talisman: The Golden Tiger.

The power of superhuman strength. The boy calmly took the ring and slipped it on. As they watched, Dread felt hungry. "Should we tell them to take a break?" The boy asked.

"No." No doubt the boy had his own motives (no one would willingly follow Dread) but Dread would kill him after the conquest of the West. Until then, he was useful, and Dread was determined not to fall into his trap. The boy frowned as Dread slithered away. She slowly descended down the hills and then vanished into the dead, barren forest.

Suddenly a blur of black caught her eye. In the shadows- a panther the size of a Divine Beast stood, watching her with a tired gaze. As his yellow eyes looked upon her, Dread knew who this was. The Black Panther, Prosper. He should have died during the first war.

Dread had been there herself- when Famine had crushed his brother's neck.

"Hello, sister. Surprised to see me?" He said slowly walking with predatorial grace. Dread slithered, and now they were circling each other.

"I figured it would take much more to bring you down." Dread hissed. There wasn't even a mark where his neck had been crushed.

"I hear you're trying to start another war... How will you do that without the overweight tabby cat protecting you every two seconds?"

"Ssshut Up! As for your quessstion... I will break Famine out." Dread said.

Prosper narrowed his eyes, then lunged. The gods had imprisoned Famine themself. Even if they defeated the Divine Beasts, the gods would eventually return and torture them. A fate worse than death, just to rule the earth for what- a few years?

Dread sped out of the way, agile for a snake her size. Snarling, Prosper turned and lunged for her neck, but instead clawed it with his Scyther-like claws.

He was too scared of her venom, and he had every right to be. Her teeth could penetrate through almost anything, and the venom was lethal as soon as it hit your bloodstream. If it lands on you, you'd wish you were dead. And if you survive the venom? Mind Control.

Dread noticed this, and lunged at him, missing hair and he scattered away like a frightened house cat.

And just like that, Prosper was now on the defense with Dread on the offense.

Claws, Teeth, and liquid went haywire as the tangle of cat and dog destroyed trees and broke rocks.

And this was without using their magic.

Somehow, Dread always missed Prosper, though sometimes by the tiniest margin. Dread had extremely tough scales, and Prosper had extremely tough claws. And without magic to reinforce them, they were both chipping out at each other. Finally having enough Dread lunged at him again and again, moving so fast her head was a blur.

After hearing a yowl of pain and feeling the bases of her teeth sink into flesh, she was satisfied. But she didn't stop pumping until his body went motionless, and the forest was quiet again.

...

Meanwhile, a snake spy from Nimra was watching the ordeal and messaging her telepathically. Then an arrow pierced it, causing it to tumble from the high tree it was in. The boy appeared through the brittle foliage and took the arrow out of the dead snake.

They had no idea who they were dealing with.

Author: First time I've ever tried something like this. You guys get to pick which evolution you want our MC to do, I'll also post the list with their descriptions down here.

_____

Evolution choices:

[Horned Rabbit]

A rabbit with horns. Specialized in headbutts and live in packs. Like it's cousins the [Fanged Rabbit] and the [Fast-Footed Rabbit] it has a short temper and are rarely seen. Often mistaken for a [Fast-Footed Rabbit] but have many differences- sizes of the horns. Horned Rabbits hold headbutting contests and often migrate- different from most other species.

[Fast-Footed Rabbit]

A rabbit with fast feet and also has horns. They headbutt too but have longer hind legs. They have short tempers and mess with humans. They are extremely hard to catch, and the best ones are said to be able to run faster than a dragon can fly, or faster than the Divine Beasts can move.

[Jackalope]

Jackalopes are said to be so dangerous that hunters are advised to wear stovepipes on their legs to keep from being gored. One of the ways to catch a jackalope is to entice it with whiskey, the jackalope's beverage of choice. This gives an weakness to whiskey.

The jackalope can imitate the human voice. During the days of the Old West, when cowboys gathered by the campfires singing at night, jackalopes could be heard mimicking their voices or singing along, usually as a tenor. It is said that jackalopes, the rare Lepus Antilocapra, only breed during lightning flashes and that their antlers make the act difficult despite the hare's reputation for fertility.

Overall, they specialize in headbutts and are dangerous.

[Crescent Hare]

A Crescent Hare is a Hare of the moon. Rarely seen. White and Silver fur and they move like a ghost. Legends say that they stalked travelers through forests, and took their souls during the full moon. Others say they are witches in disguise. They use the power of the moon and have magic capabilities. They walk in the shadows alone.

[Gives Mana Vessels Earlier]

[Rising Hare]

A Hare of the sun. White hot, these Hare often sunbathe and are a favorite pet to keep for light users. They have an outright personality and are never scared of anything. Flames, taunting, and poison doesn't affect them. They have Strong-willed minds, unable to be Mind Controlled or have their minds read. They like to stay alone, and their pelts go for a lot.

[Gives Mana Vessels Earlier]

[Mutant Rabbit]

A rabbit gone wrong. A rabbit with a defect. A rabbit with a size buff. A rabbit with no teeth. Being a mutant rabbit isn't fun, mostly your difference hinders you, and your constantly being hunted, but for the rare few who do get something good out of it, it's a miracle!

[Fanged Rabbit]

Vampire-like rabbits. They often butt heads with the [Horned Rabbits] literally and figuratively. They don't brush their teeth, but it magically stays clean. They have unbreakable bonds with their siblings, and some of them are even said to have venom.

[Winged Hare]

A favorite of Angels and Aviaonions, the people of the clouds and the sky. These rabbits have wings they can fly with -some are said to have been able to outrun a diving dragon- and their wings are like steel. They are solo, and whenever a feather comes out, it grows back in. Catching sight of one is rare, and their feathers are valuable.
