Grace’s motherly nature

Millie had always used to feel blessed that she gave birth to such a fortunate daughter. Whenever Grace accomplished anything, they had always celebrated it like a grand achievement. She wondered, maybe that's why her daughter turned out to be such a self-centered person.

At first, she was even content with her daughter's decision when she informed her that she got married to Mason without informing them. She truly felt happy that Grace got a more outstanding and understanding husband.

She didn't know at that time that all her praises had made her daughter snobbery and disdainful. Millie did not even realize that she was turning her daughter into a monster. Grace had now become an emotionally unstable person whenever she could not get what she wanted.

She finally understood that Grace was actually not the best child in this world as she had always thought. She was in so much pain thinking of the dead infant who was left alone at the hospital with no one around.

'Should I have stayed back? I am an idiot to give in to my daughter's wishes even at this time. I am sorry, baby Dina for being such a horrible grandmother. May your soul rest in peace', Millie asked for forgiveness from her other grandchild.

After a few hours into their journey, Mason got worried as Grace did not come out of the room for a long time. He stood up from the seat and went to the bedroom to check on his wife and his daughter, Tina.

When he opened the door to the small bedroom at the back of the plane, he saw the mother and daughter were sleeping next to each other. The infant held Grace's hand and had put one of her fingers into her mouth. Tina had even started to suck Grace's thumb slowly in her sleep. He walked towards them to remove her finger from the baby's mouth.

"Shh... Go away. My daughter is sleeping. Do not disturb her. What do you want now?" Grace mumbled impatiently.

That made Mason turn around and leave the room swiftly. He came out of the bedroom with a complicated expression on his face. He could not believe what he saw just now.

If it was Grace from before, she would have never let the baby suck her thumb. She was a clean freak and what he saw just now was quite unbelievable. Looking at his weird expression, Millie asked,

"What happened? Did she once again behave like a senseless person?"

"No, actually she is too attached to the child. But, I am still unable to understand why she would leave her other child back in the hospital? She did not even let me see the baby's face." Mason complained.

"Do you still not understand her character yet, after staying with her for so long? She wants the best in everything and to achieve that she would go to any length. She could not endure seeing a tiny speck of dust in our house. She had fired four hundred and fifty-seven people until now and the counting is still going on.

When she came to know that she could not conceive a child of her own, did you forget how she behaved? She almost lost her will to live. You convinced her that being a doctor, and especially a gynecologist, she must know that there were other ways to have a child. The medical field has improved a lot. But there is no cure for a person like her whose heart is as dark as her." Millie commented as she recalled that fateful day.

It made her heart bleed. She kept quiet for a few minutes. Her daughter had broken almost everything she could see or reach with her octopus hands. She walked like a dead woman who just came out of the grave after being buried for a day. Grace could not take in the report that showed she could never become pregnant in this lifetime.

"Yes, I did convince her but now I deeply regret it. We both could have lived together happily. But at that moment, I could not see her struggle with herself. I was afraid of each passing day after she came to know that she could never become a mother. So, I brought the best candidates in, for surrogacy. But who would have known that the woman we choose would have complications and even falsify the report just to earn money? When we realized the truth it was already too late and she was pregnant with our twin babies for almost five months." Mason said.

Mason stopped talking as he felt his heart heavy and he was unable to breathe. He stood up and walked towards the minibar. He was unsure if the suffocation was due to the altitude they were in or because of his guilt towards his other baby whom he never got to see.

Millie hurried behind him and said,

"You need to stop feeling guilty. Even if the baby was still alive, we know she might have not been born healthy. Have you ever thought about how she would be treated by this monster? The baby would not be happy with us, Mason. Do you remember? The minute, Grace came to know about the compilations Dina had, she stopped talking to us about her. She treated the child like she never existed. All she spoke to us was only about Tina and not Dina."

"I know! I am now more worried about the baby in her hands. What if she gets the same issue as her birth mother? I am even afraid to think, what would happen then," Mason clenched his fist to stop his hands from shaking.

This was one of the greatest fears in his life. How would Grace treat Tina then? Will she abandon her just like what she did to Dina?

"Do not worry. And stop talking like my daughter. I thought you are at least a little sensible person. Don't you know that it was just due to lack of proper nutrients, the birth mother became anemic? Do not overthink or fret about this issue anymore. Let us put a hold on some things that are not in our hands for now. Right now, we need to concentrate on the current issues that we have in our hands." Millie stated.

Mason turned around and looked at Millie in confusion.

"We are going to your parents' place. I wanted to stay behind but my daughter made me sell all the properties and buy a house at the seaside. I have a home to live in, but what about you guys? Are you going to stay with your parents or you already have made some other plans?" Millie asked.

She was worried that if her daughter stayed with her in-laws then she had to go and try to calm both of them almost every single day.

"Mom, I bought a Villa next to your house, when I saw it on sale. So, we will be living nearby as your neighbor. And by chance, my parent's house is next to ours. So we all will be living next to each other on the same row but in different houses." Mason explained.

"You really planned this well! Didn't you?" Millie mocked and strolled away worrying about her troublesome future from then on.
