Chapter 19

"You can use it as you like! You don't need save money for me, Mrs. Selmy!" Alex squinted at Lita and his fingers didn't release the card yet. He still held the card tightly among his fingers and said, "Remember to behave yourself in the future."

Why did he keep saying that she should behave herself? Did he treat her as a little kid? But when Lita's eyes met his evil glance, her heart skipped a beat. She couldn't look straight into his eyes.

"I'll just take one hundred thousand dollars for charity," said Lita and took the card, then she lowered her head.

Every time she got too close to this man, she felt that she was going to suffocate. Her heart would beat wildly and irregularly.

After playing this loving show between husband and wife, Alex received a call and left the house.

There was a camera in the living room and it was connected to the surveillance system in Ethan's treatment room. This show was meant to be seen by Ethan, so that he could be assured. He took good care to make the show very convincing.

After breakfast, Lita sent one hundred thousand dollars to the orphanage.

She bought a lot of snacks and stationery for the kids too. Seeing the cute kids enjoying the snacks and playing happily, Lita felt cheered up too.

Happiness turned out to be contagious.

After having a simple lunch with these little kids, Lita rushed to the Bishop house again. She wanted to return the bank card to Bella.

She thought that she would be given cold shoulder again, to her surprise, all the people in the family welcomed her warmly, including Eva, who always put on a long face. Even her aunt Maria, who used to be cold and indifferent to her, asked Lita voluntarily whether she had had lunch.

The change was too abrupt! Lita wasn't used to it.

"Lita, Lita, please tell me, what's Alex's hobby? What kind of woman does he like? Does he prefer pure and innocent girls, or gorgeous and cold ladies, or hot and coquettish women? Please, do tell me."

As soon as she entered the living room, Chloe flew over and dragged Lita's sleeve, asked her a lot of questions. The topic was about Alex only.

Lita really didn't expect that Alex would be so popular among the girls of Bishop family.

"No matter what kind of woman Alex likes, he won't fall in love with you, Chloe! If you grovel to him, he would only despite you more!" Eva said, hitting home at first strike.

"Eva! You shameless bitch! Get out of here! Otherwise, I'll knock your teeth into your stomach!" Chloe clenched her fists angrily.

While Chloe was chasing after Eva, Lita let out a sigh of helplessness and hurried upstairs to find Bella.

Bella was reclining window on the bay window gracefully. She really deserved her title as one of the prettiest ladies in Lisbon.

But she looked a little depressed and spiritless.

"Bella, this is your bank card. I don't need it now. I haven't used it." Lita put the bank card on her side. "Ethan has given me the money to give to Dean Oliver."

For some reason, Lita chose to say the money was given by Ethan. Perhaps, this sounded more reasonable to an outsider. Bella didn't even look at the bank card. She just sighed sadly. "Lita, do you think the Alex dislikes me?"

Lita was slightly startled. So the reason why Bella was sad was that she had been rejected by Alex yesterday?

"No, I don't think so." Lita did not know how to comfort Bella who was in deep depression. "Maybe... perhaps it's because of Ethan's injury that he became so... so unkind."

"Really?" Bella's mood seemed to be much better when she heard Lita's comforting words. But then she frowned and sighed, "But I think he treats you well, otherwise he wouldn't condescend to come to Bishop family to take you back."

"What are you talking about? That's because his brother forced him to do so! You know, the two brothers have deep feelings with each other. His brother loves him so much that he sacrificed his life for him... So Alex listened to his brother," Lita explained.

Bella nodded silently and quietly looked at Lita's clean and delicate face. She asked tentatively and softly, "Lita, tell me the truth. Do you like Alex too?"

This question really made Lita speechless. How could she like that overbearing Alex?

"Bella, you are going to make me mad! I am Alex's sister-in-law. You would make me look unfaithful by saying this. Furthermore, this is an insult to Ethan! Although Ethan's appearance has been ruined by the fire, he is my legal husband! I will respect him and defend him!"

When she said these words, she was really sad. She was not only sad for herself, but also sad for the crippled Ethan.

"Lita, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have asked you this. I'm sorry! Don't get angry with me, okay? I apologize to you!" Seeing Lita's tearful eyes, Bella hurriedly apologized.

In the future, they might become sister-in laws. And Alex cared so much about his elder brother, so she had to build a good relationship with Lita first.

"It's okay. I know you didn't mean it." Lita calmed herself down.

In the living room downstairs, Maria was reprimanding Chloe.

Bella, Chloe, Eva. Maria had given birth to three daughters for Jack. Even if she gave birth to a fourth one, it might still be a daughter. And Maria physical condition and age didn't allow her to do so. And she knew that Jack was desperate to have a son! Although his wish became less strong these years, she could see his deep-rooted yearning for sons.

Therefore, Maria put all her hopes on her eldest daughter Bella, hoping that she could marry a good husband to bring some glory to Bishop family. So that Jack would think more about his daughters.

"Chloe, I warn you in advance: Bella has a crush on Alex first. So you must not fight with her for him. You have to give him to her. Do you hear me?"

"Mom! You are being partial! Why do you restrict my freedom of marrying anybody? Why can't I like the man she likes?"

Chloe was really dissatisfied with her mother's favoritism, so she sneered and said,"Your precious eldest daughter was rejected by Alex last night! She came back disappointed! Can't you see that? Alex doesn't like her at all!"

"Chloe, you..." Maria reproached. But when she saw Bella and Lita walking down the stairs, she stopped rebuking. She didn't want to hurt Bella's self-esteem.

Lita couldn't help but complain in her heart, "Why is Alex so popular? It makes no sense!"
