Forgive me for what I'm about to do

“Sure thing." Vincent pushed up from his chair.

They walked to a coffee maker in a secluded corner and Vincent poured two cups of evil-smelling brew.

"So what's up?" He asked, handing Kelvin a chipped cup.

"Listen, it's been a while since we talked about Sarah and Mia's case, and I was wondering if there's any new developments?" He asked

Vincent shook his head and put a hand on Kelvin's shoulder.

"I can't imagine what it is like to lose someone like that, not to talk of the two most important people in my life. I'm doing everything I can to make sure we catch the son of a b---h who did it." He said with remorse.

'Everything he can indeed do,' Kelvin thought.

'Truly everything he can indeed'

When he's not wasting paper, he's chatting with everyone else about his golf game the previous weekend, or some girl he met at a bar.

Kelvin's anger got worse with each passing second, and he just couldn't take anymore of this bullshit. He was really holding himself back right now, because the image was already playing in his head, the image of him punching the s--t out of Vincent's face.

"I asked if there were any new developments." Kelvin raised his voice.

"It has been two years Vincent, two f-----g years and I'm tired of everyone telling me how f-----g sorry they are!" He said in annoyance

"Calm down, Kelvin, you know just as well as anyone that these things take time." Vincent said, trying to appease him.

Time was a luxury kelvin no longer had, he looked at the clock and it was 5:57pm.

"Yeah, time. Time that you are spending sitting on your stupid f-----g a-s!"

Kelvin's yell drew the attention of everyone in the room.

They all stared at him, perhaps hoping a fist fight was about to start.

Kelvin may have lost his temper, and he may have wanted to punch Vincent in the face, but he wasn't stupid enough to lose his job over it.

He stifled his anger, ‘what a f-----g waste of time.’ he thought as he backed away from Vincent and turned toward the exit.

'Better to leave now before Captain learned he was here making a fuss' He thought as he hurried away from the station.

Whenever kelvin needed advice, he always consulted Sarah, even in death, some things never changed.

He arrived at Evergreen Cemetery with guilt weighing heavy on his heart.

It was 6:34pm and the sun had started to set.

Kelvin stared down at the grave marked ’Sarah Light’, he placed a single red rose on the headstone and placed another on the grave beside him marked ‘Mia light'.

The base of the headstones were masked by mangled piles of shriveled flowers, most of them roses.

"I miss you guys" Kelvin said, speaking as if they could hear him.

"I miss the life we all had together, things were much happier and simpler then." He continued.

"Remember how you always used to make me a steak dinner whenever I had a bad day at work? You always knew the right things to say when I was feeling down or lost." Kelvin smiled, remembering the good times as a tear rolled down his cheek.

"I feel like I might be lost forever without you guys, I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you. I'm sorry I wasn't able to bring the one responsible to justice. You were so good to me, and yet I failed you and Mia as your husband and as her father."

His heart was broken, his hope lost, but one thing remained.

"Please forgive me for what I'm about to do."

He had already made up his mind, he would do anything to find their killer.

Grant Park was as dark as it was quiet, one of the only sources of light was a lamp post next to a walkway with a small bench facing Buckingham fountain.

Kelvin decided to wait here, spending what time he had left googling whatever he could find about succubuses on his smartphone. He found nothing useful, all his searches revealed were a few myths, and a plethora of erotica stories that would make a w---e blush.
