The End Of The Ball

**ADDIE'S POV**

I was mortified. I can't believe that I was so wrong. I mean, I really had thought that Nolan was Queen Juliana's lover. The way that she was talking him up that day that I met her, the way that she smiled at the thought of him, it just seemed like that was what it all meant.

If he wasn't her lover, then maybe she was secretly in love with him. Maybe she wanted him, but he didn't want her, so she married King Callum instead. Maybe this was the only way that she could be near him, and it was a sacrifice that she was willing to make.

I hoped that wasn't true. That would only mean that when Nolan found a lover of his own in the future, the queen would eventually come to despise and hate that woman. I wouldn't want to see Nolan's friendship with his cousin and king get damaged because of something like that. For Nolan's sake, I really hoped that I was wrong about the way the queen felt about him.
