'(Pokémon Thoughts to Ashlyn)'

["Phone Call"]

==============================================

Soon enough, Ashlyn and Tesla arrived in Viridian City. As they headed towards the Pokémon center, Ashlyn noticed Officer Jenny making an announcement.

"Attention all citizens! The criminal organization Team Rocket has been spotted and people are advised to keep their Pokémon in their Pokéballs and report any suspicious characters!" Officer Jenny announced in the intercom.

"Wait! Hold it!" Officer Jenny yelled and appeared in front of Ashlyn and Tesla.

"Is there something wrong, Officer Jenny?" Ashlyn asked.

"Yes, may I see your I.D. to make sure that that Pokémon belongs to you?" Officer Jenny asked.

"Of course." Ashlyn took out her Rotom Phone and handed it to Officer Jenny.

"Thank you." She pressed a button on the screen and it showed Ashlyn's basic information, who gave her the phone, and the Pokémon she caught. Jenny smiled and gave it back to Ashlyn.

"Everything checks out. Sorry about this, but with Team Rocket on the loose, you kinda looked suspicious with your Pokémon outside of their Pokéballs." She apologized.

"No harm done. I was just going to go to the Pokémon Center to make sure my Pokémon were okay. I wasn't in any particular rush." Ashlyn assured her.

"Well, how about as an apology I take you to the Pokémon Center." She immediately put Ashlyn on her motorcycle. "Sit back, hold on, and don't yell." After a while, the sun started to set and the stars began to come out. Officer Jenny made a sudden stop at the doors. "Well this is as far as I can take you. If I go straight in Nurse Joy will chew me out again."

Ashlyn only laughed shakingly as she slowly got out of the deathtrap that Jenny called her ride.

"No, thank you. This is already enough. I appreciate it." After a final goodbye to Jenny, Ashlyn went to Nurse Joy at the front desk.

"Hello." Ashlyn greeted.

Nurse Joy offered a kind smile. "Why, hello, young lady. What can I do for you?"

Ashlyn smiled brightly in return and held out her Pokéballs on the counter and Tesla jumped off her shoulder. "Um, could you heal and check my Pokémon? I want to make sure they're healthy."

Nurse Joy's smile grew bigger and took out a tray for her Pokéballs and Tesla. "Why certainly! It's no trouble at all. Why don't you get comfortable in the waiting room while I do the necessary check-ups?"

Ashlyn nodded and went over to the waiting room. She spotted a TV Phone and decided to call home. She knew her mom would like to know she safely made it to Viridian City. She took out her Rotom Phone and called her home phone.

["Hello, this is the Ketchum Residence."] Ashlyn smiled when she saw her mom wearing a towel on her head, and a face mask of cream with a pink robe.

"This is Ashlyn Ketchum." Ashlyn greeted.

Her mother squealed in delight and immediately tossed her towel off her hair and stripped the mask off her face expertly, looking much more human now. ["Oh, hi Ashlyn! Is everything okay? Where are you, Ashlyn?"]

She smiled at her mother's concern. "I'm okay. I'm at the Pokémon center in Viridian City."

["Viridian City? It took your father three days to reach Viridian City! He'll be so proud of you, you're the apple of his eye."] Delia smiled.

Ashlyn smiled warmly at that, not hearing much of her father most of the time. "Thanks, Mom. I also wanted to tell you that I also caught a Pidgey and a shiny Magikarp on my way here. I haven't left for one day and I already have some amazing Pokémon."

Delia giggled. ["Oh, Ashlyn. You're already off on your own adventure, spreading your wings and soaring like a Spearow!"]

Ashlyn tilted her head quizzically at her mother, wondering why she was comparing her to a short tempered bird Pokémon. She thought that she would compare her towards one of the other bird Pokémon in the other regions, but she assumed it was simply a mother thing. Ashlyn heard the telltale ding of her Pokémon being done.

"Oh, looks like that's my cue. My Pokémon are finished with their check-up." Ashlyn informed.

Delia smiled warmly at her daughter. ["Okay, dear. I love you, have a good night's rest."]

Ashlyn waved to her mother. "Love you too, Mom. Goodnight." She hung up the phone and went to gather her Pokémon at the front desk. Tesla jumped onto her shoulder as she released Lucario, and Boltund from their Pokéballs except for her Rockruff, Pidgey, and Magikarp. It was then that she noticed the four paneled stone like portrayals of four Pokémon on the wall. She knew that the top left was Moltres, top right was Aritcuno, bottom left was Zapdos, and bottom right was Arcanine. Suddenly, the computer behind the front desk began to ring and since Nurse Joy didn't seem to be coming by any time soon, Ashlyn decided to take it, voice only.

"Hello, this is Ashlyn Ketchum at the Viridian City Pokémon Center, how may I help you?" Ashlyn asked politely.

["Oh, Ashlyn! Over here!"] Ashlyn and her Pokémon turned around to the four panels to see the lower right one slide down to reveal a screen. Professor Oak's back to her, but looking at a monitor with her face on it. ["Don't you recognize me?"]

Ashlyn gave an amused smile. "Well, I suppose I am rather familiar with your back." Ashlyn commented kindly. The three Pokémon chuckled at that.

Prof. Oak turned around and spotted her.

["Oops, wrong camera."] He flustered over the keyboard and typed something which fixed the screen, ["There."] He cleared his throat. ["I just spoke with your mother and she told me you made it to the Pokémon center in Viridian City. Is that correct?"]

"I wouldn't be talking to you if I wasn't here." Ashlyn's brow arched at the Professor as her Pokémon tilted their heads.

["You wouldn't be talking to me- Oh! I see! Anyways, I had no doubts that you wouldn't make it to Viridian city soon. I even defended you when Gary said you wouldn't make it with even one new Pokémon! I bet him a million dollars that you would!"] Prof. Oak proclaimed.

"Well then Gary better pay up because you won the bet. I caught a larger than normal Pidgey and a shiny Magikarp." Ashlyn smirked.

["Ha ah! Yes, Gary owes me a million Pokédollars!"] Prof. Oak cheered which made Ashlyn smile. Then he stopped, ["Wait, did you say you caught a shiny Magikarp?"]

"Yeah, I did." Ashlyn responded.

["Fascinating."] Prof. Oak commented.

"By the way, I saw Ho-Oh as well, Professor." Ashlyn said.

["That's impossible! You couldn't have seen that Pokémon! Trainers have searched their whole lives looking for it and never found it."] Prof. Oak stated.

"I have proof, Professor." Ashlyn took out the feather.

["In-Incredible!"] Prof. Oak exclaimed with shock, ["Ashlyn, do you know exactly how lucky you are?!"]

"Maybe. I never imagined that I would see Ho-Oh on the first day of my journey." Ashlyn responded.

["Indeed. That must mean that your journey has already been blessed, since those who see it are said to have good luck and for you to see it on the first day of your journey must mean you're in for quite an adventure."] Prof. Oak stated, smiling.

"I'm looking forward to it." Ashlyn smiled as she stared at the feather before putting it away, "Ho-Oh was truly beautiful, Professor."

["I bet it was."] Prof. Oak smiled. The doorbell rang on Oak's side of the phone. ["Ah, there's my pizza!"] He turned away. ["Coming!"] He left the screen only to reappear a second later. ["It was very nice talking to you, Ashlyn."] Off screen Ashlyn sweat dropped at what she heard next. ["Anchovy, spinach, and pineapple pizza!"] Ashlyn and her Pokémon made gagging sounds as the screen went blank.

"...Well that was interesting." Ashlyn said.

"(Who would put those kinds of things on a pizza?)" Lucario asked.

"Apparently the Professor would." Ashlyn replied.

Suddenly the alarms in the center started to go off and the speakers started to give off the voice of Officer Jenny.

"Attention please, our radars have detected an aircraft above Viridian City belonging to a notorious group of Pokémon thieves. If you're in possession of a Pokémon, please exercise extreme caution."

Ashlyn frowned at hearing the announcement. "That can't be good."

As if that was a cue, two Pokéballs fell through the glass opening above the Pokémon center and opened to reveal an Ekans and a Koffing. Ashlyn quickly took out her Rotom Phone.

[Ekans. The Poisonous Snake Pokémon. Ekans sneaks through grass without making a sound and strikes unsuspecting prey from behind.]

[Koffing. The Poison Gas Pokémon. Koffing hovers in the air, thanks to the poisonous gases it contains, which have a foul odor and can explode.]

"What the- who are you guys?!" Ashlyn demanded.

"Don't be scared little girl." A feminine voice spoke.

"More like annoyed." Ashlyn muttered.

"Why don't we introduce ourselves." A male voice said this time.

"Prepare for trouble," The woman said.

"Make it double," The man said.

"To protect the world from devastation,"

"To unite all people within our nation,"

"To denounce the evils of truth and love,"

"To extend our reach to the stars above,"

"Jessie,"

"James,"

"Team Rocket blasting off at the speed of light,"

"Surrender now and prepare to fight,"

"Meowth that's right!" The Meowth said as it stood on two legs.

"A talking Meowth." Ashlyn scanned Meowth.

[Meowth, the Scratch Cat Pokémon. Meowth loves to roam at night to gather coins and other objects that sparkle, but it spends most of the daylight hours sleeping.]

"Are you guys complete morons?" Ashlyn questioned as her Pokémon growled at Team Rocket.

"How rude!" James exclaimed.

"Whatever! Just hand over your Pokémon and we'll be out of your way." Jessie demanded.

"Dats right!" Meowth added.

"You can't take these Pokémon," Nurse Joy protested, "They're still weak and injured."

"Ah who cares?" James shrugged, "Team Rocket will make better use for them. Now hand them over."

"No way! Tesla, Lucario, Boltund, Pidgey, I choose you!" Ashlyn released Pidgey as her Pokémon got in front of her.

"Oh, it looks like the twerp has some rare Pokémon indeed." Jessie commented.

"I haven't seen those kind of Pokémon before. They must be from another region." James pointed at Lucario and Boltund.

"Those Pokémon will be more useful in Team Rocket." Jessie smirked.

Then she turned to Nurse Joy, "Nurse Joy, please go and inform Officer Jenny as we hold them off."

Nurse Joy reluctantly nodded and ran in back.

"Oh so it's a fight huh?" Jessie smirked, "Very well go, Ekans, use Bite."

"You too, Koffing, use Poison Gas." James said.

"Lucario, Extreme Speed and Low Sweep on Ekans! Pidgey, use Gust to get rid of the smoke!" Ashlyn ordered.

Team Rocket were caught off guard by the speed of the two Pokémon, both hits landed on them which caused Koffing's dark green smoke to be blown back in their faces. They coughed and glared at the girl.

"You'll pay for that, you little brat!" Jessie exclaimed.

"Bring it on, you old hag!" Ashlyn taunted.

"WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?!" The woman screeched.

Ashlyn smirked.

"Ekans, use Poison Sting!" Jessie ordered.

"Koffing, Tackle!" James ordered.

"Tesla, Boltund, use Iron Tail!"

Tesla and Boltund's tail glowed a metallic color and slashed their tails which Tesla sent Ekans's attack back at itself and Boltund's caused Koffing flying onto the ground in front of James.

"Ah! Ekans!" Jessie screeched.

"My poor Koffing!" James gasped.

"Face my Fury Swipes!" Meowth yelled out his attack as he charged towards Tesla with his claws extended.

"Lucario, Force Palm!" Ashlyn ordered.

Lucario got into front of Tesla and hit his palm into Meowth which sent him back into the smoke.

"Tesla, Boltund, use Thunderbolt!" Ashlyn ordered.

Tesla and Boltund let out their electrical attack which electrocuted Team Rocket and sent them flying through the roof.

"TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF!" Team Rocket shouted as they disappeared into the night sky.

Ashlyn and her Pokémon flinched at the destruction. She looked sheepishly at Nurse Joy as Officer Jenny came running in.

"Is everyone alright?" Officer Jenny asked.

"Don't worry. We're all okay, Officer Jenny." Ashlyn replied.

"I'm glad. But would you mind telling me what happened here?" Officer requested.

Ashlyn had told her about Team Rocket breaking in and trying to take all of the Pokémon from the center and the two people were called Jessie and James.

"Sorry about damaging to your roof, Nurse Joy." Ashlyn apologized along with her Pokémon.

The woman only smiled warmly at her. "Oh, that's no problem at all, Ashlyn. I'm sure that the city can cover the damage. What's more important is that you and your Pokémon just saved the Pokémon center! Who knows what Team Rocket would have done if you hadn't stopped them."

Ashlyn and her Pokémon blushed at the praise. "Aw, thanks, we were only trying to help. No way would we let those crooks get their hands on these Pokémon."

"Well, I should recommend that you and your Pokémon get some rest." Officer Jenny suggested, pointing to the hole in the ceiling that showed the night sky.

"I'll take you up on that suggestion." Ashlyn agreed.

Her Pokémon agreed as well.
