140 The Rustboro Contest
{A/N: This is my first time doing Pokemon Contest, so go easy on me}

On their way to Rustboro city, they had some adventures.
The first one was when the gang finally left the Petalburg Forest and arrived at Rinshin Town where they were able to rest and get supplies. Afterwards, May wanted to do some window shopping, while Ashlyn and Brock decided to help Max find any Pokémon hiding in the city. So they started searching the alleyways. There they found a lone Shroomish which was strange because Shroomish lived in the forest. As it turns out, the Shroomish was part of a swarm that was staying in a rundown mansion that was under construction. The grandson of the owner of the mansion, Alex, believed that there were no more Shroomish because the forest around the mansion had disappeared until the gang showed him that they were all hiding in the living room with a fireplace in the mansion. However, the Shroomish were causing a small amount of trouble which made a Machamp, one of the worker's Pokémon, to retaliate and decided to attack them. Luckily, they got to stop it from further attacks. Alex said that he couldn't do anything to stop the demolition of the mansion, but he promised that he would create a habitat for the Shroomish to live in which made the Shroomish swarm very happy. For Max, one of the Shroomish decided to stay with him which made him very happy.

Their second adventure was when the gang had come across a Pokémon reserve, a place where Pokémon stay until they're nursed back to health and are able to head back to the wild, and they met Ranger Katrina. They came across three Mightyena and one Poochyena which were the protectors of the Reserve, protecting the other Pokémon from poachers. There was a small misunderstanding when they both met but luckily worked it out. Brock had tried to flirt with Katrina, but his Alolan Graveler dragged him away. Max also got along with Poochyena and wanted to help him evolve into Mightyena. Then Team Rocket appeared and tried to take the Pokémon from the reserve. Luckily Poochyena saved the others from the evil trio and Tesla sent them blasting off with her Thunderbolt attack. Seeing the bond between Max and Poochyena, Katrina asked Max to take Poochyena with him. Max agreed that he'll take good care of Poochyena. So the dark type joined Max's team. Then the gang were back on the road.

Their third adventure was when the gang was relaxing near a lake and accidentally came across a swarm of Lotad which were being taken care of by three sisters, Nicole, Natalie and Rita, who hold a flower shop with many kinds of Berries. No surprise to Ashlyn, Brock flirted with all of them. However, Natalie formed a crush on Brock.
Brock soon befriends a Lotad who was having a tough time using Water Gun. The sisters also taught them about Pokéblocks which was a type of treat for Pokémon to have which were made from the berries that the sisters had. Soon enough they came across Team Rocket who tried to take all of the Lotads. Luckily the one that Brock befriended was left behind and warned them. Then Lotad and Tesla freed the Lotads and sent Team Rocket flying. Before they left, the Lotad that Brock befriended decided to go with him and the sisters let Lotad join his team. The gang continued on their way to Rustboro City.

The gang was getting near Rustboro City. Ashlyn was excited about her upcoming gym battle. But she was also excited for her first Pokemon Contest. At the moment, they were coming out of the Rustboro Contest hall. Ashlyn had just finished signing up for the Pokemon contest that was coming tomorrow. She also managed to get passes for everyone so that they could watch the contest.
"Are we getting closer to Rustboro City, Max?" May whined.
Max checked his PokeNav, "We're about a day away from it." He replied.
May sighed in defeat.
Suddenly a butterfly Pokémon landed on May's head. The said girl blinked at the sudden weight on her head.
"Um, what's on my head?" May asked, slightly nervous.
"A Beautifly." Ashlyn took out her rotom phone:
[Beautifly, the Butterfly Pokémon. Beautifly have long, thin noses which can extend to suck the pollen out of flowers.]
"So that's a Beautifly?" May asked, curious as Ashlyn showed her phone to her.
Beautifly peeked its head over May's head. May looked up and saw Beautifly looking down at her.
May blinked, "Uh, hi?"
Beautifly greeted, "Beautifly (Hello)."
"You know, Beautifly is kind of cute." May admitted.
Beautifly smiled as it flapped its wings happily.
"Beautifly, there you are!" A female voice called out.
The gang turned to the voice and saw a teenage girl and boy coming up to them. Ashlyn recognized the girl as Janet and the boy as Chaz. Brock went into lovey dovey mode and gently held Janet's hands as he knelt down in front of her.
"HELLO! Is your mother a great artist? 'Cause you're a work of art! Pretty as a pic- Gah!"
Before Brock could even finish his words, Beautifly quickly got off of May's head to drop herself onto Brock's head to stop him from making any more advances to her trainer, much to Janet's surprise.
"AH! Beautifly, stop that!" Janet ordered, panicking.
Ashlyn, May, and Max walked up to the two teenagers.
"Correct me if I'm wrong but are you training your Beautifly for the Pokémon Contest coming up?" Max asked.
"Well, as a matter of fact, I was... But, unfortunately, some of the attacks went a little bit wrong." Janet admitted, nervously.
"For the attacks going wrong, that's probably my fault... Venomoth's Whirlwind attacks were far too strong. It was a hopeless failure." Chaz added as his Venomoth perched on his shoulder.
"My name's Janet, by the way!" Janet introduced herself.
"And my name's Chaz! How's it going?" Chaz introduced himself.
"Fine. I'm Ashlyn." Ashlyn said.
"I'm May." May said.
"And I'm Max." Max said.
"And I'm Brock, your future boyfriend!" Brock said, ecstatically, with his hands clasped together.
"Oh brother." Ashlyn muttered, "So you two must be coordinators."
"That's right." Chaz confirmed.
"Coordinators? Oh, right! You guys enter contests and win a cute little ribbon or something?" May realized.
"That's exactly right! And they look just like these!" Janet took out her Ribbon Case to show how many Ribbons she had, much to May's amazement.
"No way! You've already got two of them!?" May beamed.
"May, you want to take a look at the Ribbon that I won?" Chaz took out his own Ribbon Case to show his proof of winning the Contest he'd won before.
"That's so cool! I'm gonna win one, too!" May said, ecstatic.
"I think you need to be good with Pokémon to win." Max pointed out in a taunting tone.
"What? I'm becoming a natural with Pokémon." May defended.
"That's true. May's starting to get the hang of it." Ashlyn stated.
"I'm a natural as well." Brock said.
"You sure are." Ashlyn agreed.
"However, May can't enter the contest, Ashlyn got the last spot. Remember?" Max pointed out.
May sighed in defeat, "I should've thought of signing up earlier." She said.
"Don't worry, May. There's always another contest." Ashlyn assured her.
"I guess you're right." May agreed.
"How about you become my assistant, May?" Janet suggested.
May turned to her with confusion, "What do you mean?"
"I would love for you to be my assistant, May. I think Beautifly would agree as well." Janet said.
"Beautifly!" Beautifly agreed.
"Can I be your assistant as well, Janet?" Max asked.
"Sure, that would be great." Janet replied, smiled.

The next day was the start of the Rustboro Contest. The contest will start with the opening ceremony. The gang along with Janet and Chaz were in the waiting room, watching the announcement. The MC for the Contest began to announce the start of the event as he began to introduce himself and the three judges who are judging for the competition.
"The wait is over! The Rustboro Pokémon Contest is about to get underway! On the panel of judges this year, Contesta, the Director of the Contest Committee, Sukizo from the Pokémon Enthusiasts Club, and Nurse Joy from Rustboro City!" He held out a small, beautiful Ribbon, the MC announced on how the Ribbon will be won for today. "And like every year, the winner will receive this Rustboro Ribbon! Now, listen up! Anyone winning the five ribbons from the various regional Pokémon Contest will be given free automatic entry in the Pokémon Grand Festival!"
"Wow! Awesome!" May said, excited.
'The most important part is the Pokémon's entry! First impressions really do matter! The judges will form opinions from the first attack! And they take into account of the degree of the Pokémon's development and its level of cooperation with its trainer! The final decision is made, based on points given by the judges! It's very exciting!" Janet explained.
"Awesome... Awesome!" May beamed with excitement.
"Perhaps you could expand your vocabulary a bit…" Max retorted, unimpressed.
"I know... but it's so awesome! Pokémon are incredible! I never realized!" May squealed.
Ashlyn giggled at May's words. She was glad that May was interested in Pokémon Contests. She knows that May will learn a lot about Pokémon by doing contests.

Chaz was done with his performance along with his Venomoth and Janet was done with her performance with her Beautifly along with the help of May and Max. She got a perfect score of 30 from the three judges. Now it was Ashlyn's turn.
"Now, for the last entry in the primary judging... This is entry number 30… Ashlyn Ketchum! Let's see if Ashlyn can finish things up with a bang!" The MC said as the lights shined onto Ashlyn.
"Parisa, let's dance!" Ashlyn released Parisa the shiny Sylveon.
"Sylveon!" Parisa appeared on the stage.
"Use Magical Leaf!" Parisa summoned a tornado of multiple glowing green leaves from her body.
"Look at this! See how beautiful and magical these leaves twirl around Sylveon!" MC said.
"Now jump and twirl in while using Dazzling Gleam!" Parisa creates a rainbow-colored sphere around her body and jumps into the tornado of glowing leaves as she twirls inside.
"Disperse!" Parisa spreads her feelers which stops the tornado of leaves, and she gracefully lands on the stage as rainbow-colored glitters flutter down, making Parisa shine all over.
"How beautiful! The glitters from Magical Leaf and Dazzling Gleam sprinkle down on Sylveon like diamonds! Truly magnificent! How many points does Sylveon win for this round?" The MC asked as everyone turned to the judges as they all made their decision.
Mr. Contesta: 10
Mr. Sukizo: 10
Nurse Joy: 10
Total: 30
"Wow! The judges all agree that Sylveon deserved to win a total of 30 points! A very high score for a first timer!" The MC said as the audience cheered for the great performance of both Ashlyn and Parisa.
The audience cheered as Ashlyn and Parisa bowed towards the crowd.

Ashlyn and Parisa came back to the waiting room. She was met with smiling faces from her friends and amazed looks from the others as Max and May.
"You were great out there, Ashlyn! And it was even your first time trying!" Max said in amazement.
"You and Parisa did a great job! Makes me wish that I had a Sylveon as well." May said with excitement.
"I admit that I also want one." Janet admitted sheepishly.
"Thanks, you guys." Ashlyn smiled.
"Alright, everyone! We're sorry for making you wait! So now, without any further delay, I now present the finalists!" The MC announced as he gestured to the scoreboard where four faces were shown on the screen! They were already set up for battles that would lead up to the finals.
1. Ashlyn VS Chaz
2. Casey VS Janet
"Oh man... Look! It's going to come down to Ashlyn and Chaz battling together... And whichever of the two wins will be able to face Janet when she wins in her battle..." Max said in disbelief.
"Well then, Chaz." Ashlyn said, getting Chaz's attention, "No holding back in our battle together."
Chaz smirked back, "That goes for you too, Ashlyn. Let's make this a good battle for us Coordinators." He offered a hand to Ashlyn who accepted as the two shook a little as Janet walked up to them.
"Hope you two are ready for some stiff competition!" Janet said as Chaz only smirked at the challenge she was giving off.
"I'm just ready to win, after I beat both you and Ashlyn in this." Chaz said as the others watched to see the three Coordinators wishing each other luck as Janet smiled sweetly, in a little sarcastic way.
"Good luck, you two..." Janet said as she raised a small fist, to which both Ashlyn and Chaz understood as they raised their small fists together, as the three bumped them together for a battle to the win. "To victory!" Ashlyn, Janet and Chaz said together.

"Now, ladies and gentlemen! We're onto round two! Contestants in the battle will only have five minutes to execute their attacks gracefully, along with taking as many points from their opponents during the match! And the first to take the stage is... Chaz, on my right! And Ashlyn, on my left!" The MC announced, "Now then, with the five minutes on the clock, let the battle begin!" The MC called as the timer on the scoreboard started to count down, allowing the battle to start.
5:00 - 4:59
"Here goes nothing…Vixie, your time to shine!" Ashlyn released her shiny Delphox.
"Delphox." Vixie gracefully landed on the stage.
"Okay! Go, Venomoth!" Chaz yelled as he sent out his Poison-Bug Type out.
"Venomoth!" Venomoth appeared.
"Venomoth! Stun Spore!" Chaz cried as Venomoth used his wings to create powder that would leave any opponent paralyzed.
"Vixie, use Mystical Fire!" Vixie swings her wand stick around in a circle, forming a ring of red-orange fire in front of herself, destroying the Stun Spore. She then released a red-orange stream of fire from her mouth and slammed into Venomoth. It dealt some damage as Venomoth flew back, wincing in pain from the super effective attack it had just taken.
"No way!?" Chaz gasped as the MC announced what just happened.
"Delphox used Mystical Fire to defend and attack from Venomoth's Stun Spore! What a combo!" The MC said as some points were deducted from both Ashlyn and Chaz's scoreboard!
Chaz: 85 points
Ashlyn: 90 points
"Vixie, use Shadow Ball!" Vixie formed a ball of dark energy from the tip of her wand and threw it towards Venomoth.
"Oh no you don't! Psybeam, let's go!" Chaz said as Venomoth aimed the Psychic Type attack towards the Shadow Ball which exploded upon impact.
However, that caused both of them to lose points.
Chaz: 80
Ashlyn: 85
"Fire Pledge!" Vixie formed a flame at the tip of her wand stick and raised it in the air as pillars of flames burst from the ground, protecting Vixie from Venomoth's Psybeam which caused it to collide with flame pillars. That made beautiful glitters and pieces of flames to sparkle on Vixie.
"I don't believe this! Instead of dodging the Psybeam attack, Delphox used a powerful fire move to counter it!" The MC commented.
Chaz: 74
"Will-O-Wisp." Vixie formed a large pink, light blue, and dark blue fireball at the tip of her wand stick. She then swings the wand, firing the fireballs at Venomoth which hit it and caused it to skid back in the air.
"Oh no! Venomoth!?" Chaz gasped as Venomoth fluttered down to the floor as it struggled to maintain balance itself in the air.

"Let's try this one more time, Venomoth! Use Psybeam!" Chaz yelled as Venomoth attempted to make an attack towards Vixie, who got ready to dodge once again.
"No you don't! Counter with Ember, Vixie!" Ashlyn cried out.
Both battlers shot their attacks, which in turn collided with each other, creating an explosion between the two! At that result, both Ashlyn and Chaz lost their points. Suddenly, the sound went off to show that the time was up, meaning that the battle was now over.

"And the battle is over! Let's see who will advance to the final round!" The MC said as everyone turned their attention to the scoreboard to see who had won.
Ashlyn: 70 points
Chaz: 50 points
"And the winner of this round... is Ashlyn! Please come up to the final stage when the first-round battles are over!" The MC said as the crowd cheered for the victor of the first Contest battle.
Vixie came over to Ashlyn who smiled at her Fox Pokémon. The two shared a hug.
Ashlyn smiled, "You did great, Vixie."
"Phox (Thank you, Ashlyn)." Vixie smiled back.

"Hey guys, what did you think of our battle?" Chaz asked as May frowned at this.
"I don't know... I kind of... really didn't pay much attention as the battle went on. All I can say was... it was awesome." May said nervously.
Ashlyn giggled at May's lack of vocabulary, "You're next... Right, Janet?" She asked as the experienced Coordinator nodded with a smile.
"It sure is. And that means I'll be seeing you at the finals, Ashlyn." Janet said.
Ashlyn nodded, "See you then."

Janet had won her battle against Casey and now Ashlyn was going against Janet. Both Coordinators prepared to battle, with both having determined looks on their faces.
"And now, the Rustboro Pokémon Contest has come to the exciting final battle stage! It's down to Ashlyn and Janet, who both showed extraordinary skills in the preliminary round!" The MC announced.
Chaz, Brock, May, and Max were excited to see who would win this contest as they sat in the audience.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the five-minute Contest battle will now begin!" The MC said as the timer began, allowing the battle to start.
5:00 to 4:59
"Vixie, let's light 'em up!"
"Go get 'em, Beautifly!"
Both Pokéballs opened up to show the two battlers that were ready for battle as both battlers began their starting attacks.
"Vixie, use Ember!"
"Beautifly, Hidden Power!"
Both Ashlyn and Janet cried out together as Vixie fireballs with her wand stick towards Beautifly! Beautifly on the other hand, countered with orbs of light to block the Ember attack. The two moves collided together, all creating a small explosion that produced sparkling lights raining down on the battlefield and onto the audience as they were in awe of the beautiful display of the attacks each side made.
"Amazing! Ember and Hidden Power together made raining lights, resulting in a stalemate between Delphox and Beautifly! Neither of them looks like they're going to give an inch or second of each other!" The MC said as both players lost some of their points, due to the collision of their attacks.
Ashlyn: 85 points
Janet: 85 points
"Not bad, Ashlyn! But, can you keep up with us?" Janet asked with an impressed look.
"Sure can. Vixie and I are in this together! Vixie, use Secret Power!" Ashlyn replied, smiling.
Vixie's body glowed pink and multiple green tentacle-like energy appeared around her. Then, similar green tentacle-like energy surrounded the Beautifly's body and wrapped around it, causing it to fall asleep.
Janet: 79
"Oh no, Beautifly!" Janet gasped.
"With Beautifly downed by Delphox's Secret Power attack, the battle is over! Let's have a look at the scoreboard!" The MC said as everyone turned their attention to the scoreboard to see who had triumphed one another!
Ashlyn: 85 points
Janet: 79 points
Winner: Ashlyn
"Victory goes to Ashlyn and Delphox!" The MC announced as everyone cheered for the victor of this Contest.
Vixie came over to Ashlyn and the two hugged again.
"Well done, Vixie. I'm very proud of you." Ashlyn complimented.
"Delphox. Del (Thank you, Ashlyn. I wouldn't have done it without you)." Vixie smiled.
Janet returned Beautifly to its Pokeball and she went over to Ashlyn and Vixie.
"Congratulations, Ashlyn! You were great out there!" Janet said as Ashlyn smiled back with Vixie beside her.
"Yeah... You too, Janet. It was a pretty close battle." Ashlyn said.
"Yes! You were both great! Let us be the first to congratulate you!" A woman cried out catching everyone's attention! The two battlers, judges, the MC, and all the audience turned to see two people dressed in a formal suit and hat with masks on their faces.
But Ashlyn knew this was Team Rocket.
'Vixie, I have this feeling that this is Team Rocket. Get ready to attack.' Ashlyn projected her thoughts to Vixie.
'Right.' Vixie responded.
"We were invited here, especially by your Congratulatory Committee!" The man said as the MC was confused by this news.
"No one told me about this..." The MC started to say until the woman snatched the microphone from him.
"In that case, let me just say to that beautiful Delphox! You won!" The woman said as the man offered both Ashlyn and Janet a bouquet.
"Your congratulatory bouquet for the both of you!" The man said, leaving Janet confused as she took the bouquet with a confused look on her face.
"Oh... Well, thank you- Ah!" Janet started to say until smoke came out of the bouquet!
Ashlyn quickly took action, throwing the bouquet away by taking it out of Janet's hands, "Throw that thing! It's a trap!" She grunted as Janet shrieked in surprise!
The Team Rocket began their annoying motto.
"Prepare for trouble, as we congratulate..."
"And make it double, while we coordinate!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Vixie, Overheat!" Ashlyn interrupted.
Vixie's body turned a shade of red then she used her wand stick and released a swirling stream of fire at Team Rocket which sent them flying through the roof and into the sky.
"TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF AGAIN!" The trio shouted before they disappeared into the sky.
"Serviper!" Serviper added.

"Now, Contesta will present our winner with her first place, Rustboro Ribbon!" The MC said as Ashlyn accepted the Ribbon with thanks as she took it into her hands for both Parisa and Vixie to see. The two were happy for their first win in the event as May and Max walked over, with Brock at their side.
"Hey, Ashlyn...? Is it okay if we look at the Ribbon you've won?" May asked.
Ashlyn nodded, "Sure." She showed her very first Ribbon to the two siblings and Brock.
At the sight of the size and color of the Ribbon, May was amazed with how it looked right now. "Wow... It's so beautiful!" May said, "You know what? I've decided that I'm gonna enter a Contest, too! And earn my very own Ribbon!"
Janet walked over with a small smile on her face as she nodded in understanding. "I think that's a great idea, May." Janet said.
"Uh... Maybe you should worry about your training for your first battle!" Max reminded her, catching the older sister off guard.
"Ah! Oh yeah... Perhaps!" May said, nervously.
"Good luck, May!" Janet said as Chaz turned to Ashlyn.
"You too, Ashlyn! I hope it goes well! With your gym battle and your next Contest coming up!" Chaz said.
"Thank you, Chaz, Janet." Ashlyn thanked the two.

Winning her first ribbon at her first Pokémon Contest, Ashlyn and her friends are now on their way to Rustboro City where Ashlyn will challenge the Rustboro gym. The journey continues.
