61 Mikan Island

After receiving Lapras and gaining a new travelling friend Tracey, Ashlyn and the gang were riding Lapras across the ocean to get to an island called Mikan Island, for Ashlyn's first gym badge. The gang thought that riding on Lapras across the ocean was fun, cheaper and quicker than a ferry.

"I find it funny that I'm starting to collect the Orange League badges," Ashlyn said, "I mean not long ago I started collecting badges for the Indigo League."

Her friends smiled at that comment.

Soon they reached Mikan Island at last. The group got off Lapras and Ashlyn returned him for a rest. They went off to the Pokémon Center to have their Pokémon checked and get something to eat before heading off the Mikan Island Gym.

The gang walked along a path lined with palm trees, which led to and from the beach. Suddenly Tesla saw a coconut on the ground by the road.

"Raichu! (Hey a coconut!)" She yelled in surprise.

She was just about to pick it up when Ashlyn stopped her. "Hang on a minute Tesla," she said "this is a trap," and pointed to a string attached to the coconut, "Seems like someone is trying to pull a prank on us."

Ashlyn grinned and turned to Tesla and Raichu, "Tesla, Raichu, can you move the bucket to where the prankster is?"

"Rai." Tesla nodded and turned to Raichu, "Raichu Rai? (Wanna help?)"

Raichu nodded, "Raichu."

Both electric mouse Pokémon ran up the palm tree and move the bucket, above where they spotted someone hiding behind some bushes (must be the prankster) and left the bucket above that person.

"Rai!" The two electric mouse Pokémon high five or high paw each other.

"Now for our little trick." Ashlyn smiled. Tesla and Raichu snickered. "Let's eat this coconut, Tesla."

Tesla picked up the coconut, and when she did that the string pulled the bucket, tipping all the water all over the prankster.

"GAAHHHH!" The young boy, prankster screamed and jumped from behind the tree and bush, "What happened?!" He shrieked out, soaking wet, "I'm sure that I place the bucket in the right place! How?!"

Ashlyn recognized the young boy as Senta Atsumi, younger brother to Cissy the gym leader of Mikan Island.

Volkner, Misty, and Tracey chuckled.

Ashlyn giggled, "You did, but I had Tesla and Raichu move the bucket that was in the tree." She said.

"Say what?!" Senta was in shock from that.

"It serves you right for playing pranks like that." Misty said.

"Haha Hahaha." Another laughter was suddenly heard.

Senta gulped when he heard the laughter, "Uh oh."

The gang looked at saw a young woman with auburn hair that was pinned back and blue eyes, wearing a black top and long pink skirt with white shoes. This woman was Cissy the gym leader of Mikan Island.

"I like how you handle my little brother like that." Cissy complimented.

Ashlyn nodded.

Cissy looked at the boy with a stern look, "Senta Atsumi, how many times have I told you to not play pranks on visitors? And have you finished cleaning your room?" She asked.

Senta looked down and nodded, "Lots and yes sis." He sulked and walked away.

Cissy turned to the gang, "I'm so sorry about my little brother's behavior." She apologized.

"It's okay," Ashlyn said, "Anyways, I'm Ashlyn and we're looking for Mikan Island's gym."

"Ah, a challenger," Cissy perked at that and smiled, "I'm Cissy and I'm the gym leader of this island."

The Mikan Island Gym Leader led the gang to her Gym.

Mikan Island Gym looked like a combination of a barn and beach house and inside was a Pokémon Battle field.

"I've heard that the gym challenges of the Orange Islands are different from any other gyms, am I right?" Ashlyn asked.

"That's correct," Cissy replied, "As you know the Orange Islands Gyms are different to other Region Gyms, we give challenges to our challengers and Pokémon to see how strong both trainer and Pokémon are alike." Cissy explained, as she stood on the other side of the field, "We'll decide the match with two Challenges."

Ashlyn nodded and entered the field.

Cissy looked at her little brother, "Okay Senta, hit it."

"Right." Senta pushed a button on the remote he was holding.

Everyone looked the side and saw the something opened and inside was a long line of cans set up.

"Cans?" Misty blinked.

"Just wait and see." Volkner said.

Senta pushed another button on the controller and the field opened up, revealing a pool.

"Reminds me of Cerulean Gym." Ashlyn said, amused.

"Seadra, I choose you." Cissy sent out her dragon Pokémon.

"Doo Doo." Seadra said.

"Let's start the much with a Water Gun Challenge." Cissy announced.

"Water Gun Challenge?" Ashlyn asked.

"That's right. The trainers pick which ever Pokémon have the best Water Gun attacks and they compete against each other in a test." Cissy explained, "In my gym the Pokémon compete like athletes do, using their skills head to head, one on one."

Volkner crossed his arms in front of his chest, ''Interesting, a great way to show a Pokémon's skill. Maybe I should have that for my gym."

"You know what? Me too." Misty added.

"We both use only water type Pokémon for this gym," Cissy explained, "The first Pokémon who hits the most cans and plates is the winner of this challenge."

Ashlyn chose Vaporeon.

"Alright Vaporeon, time to shoot." Ashlyn pointed towards the cans.

"Vap~~" Vaporeon cooed and her eyes narrowed, meaning she's in serious mode now.

"Seadra, Water Gun now!" Cissy ordered.

Seadra fired some thin Water Gun towards the cans and it knocked down five cans.

"Wow, center hits." Tracey said as he drew the scene.

"Vaporeon, your turn." Ashlyn said.

"Vap~" Vaporeon fired thin Water Gun attacks very fast and knocked out six cans.

"Wohoo! Go!" Misty cheered.

"Wow, center hits as well." Tracey said, still drawing.

"Vaporeon had been doing this kind of training before the Indigo League." Volkner commented.

Both Seadra and Vaporeon continued to knock down the cans with Water Gun, till there was only two cans left and both Pokémon knocked them out.

"Not too bad." Cissy praised. "Next we'll try moving targets."

Senta pushed another button on the controller and the other side of the field wall opened up, revealing the beach.

"Well Seadra, are you ready?" Cissy asked her Pokémon.

"Doo Doo." Seadra nodded.

"Fire."

"Okay." Senta nodded and pushed another button.

A disc plate came out flying from the side of the wall.

"Seadra." Cissy called out.

Seadra fired a Water Gun attack at the plate disc, destroying it.

"Triple." Three plate disc came out.

"Doo!" Seadra fired Water Gun attacks at the three disc destroying them.

"Now let's see you try it." Cissy said.

"Vaporeon." Ashlyn said.

"Vaporeon~" Vapreon nodded.

"Go!"

One disc shot out and Vaporeon destroyed it immediately.

"Next."

Three disc shot out and was destroyed also by Water Gun attacks.

"Excellent. Next we'll both aim for the same target and whoever hits it first, wins the match." Cissy explained.

"Everybody get ready now." Senta announced, as he had his finger above a button, getting ready to press it.

Volkner had binoculars in his hand, to see who shot the disc first.

Both trainers and Pokémon stared.

PHWOOSH! A disc was shot out.

Both Water-type Pokémon fired Water Gun at the disc destroying it.

Volkner looked extremely carefully, to see who hit first.

"Who?" Misty asked.

"Ashlyn. Vaporeon was slightly faster than Seadra's Water Gun." The Sunyshore Gym Leader answered.

Cissy sighed, "That's right, that what I saw as well." She said.

"Vap~" Vaporeon cooed, happily.

Vaporeon jumped out of the water and into Ashlyn's arms, "Well done, Vaporeon." She petted her water type Pokémon.

Senta looked at his sister.

"Don't worry Senta. There is one more challenge, hope you're ready. Because our next challenge is a Pokémon Wave Ride." Cissy announced the next challenge.

"A Pokémon Wave Ride?" Ashlyn blinked.

"That's right. Shall we move to our next challenge area." Cissy said and walked off.

The gang and Senta followed behind.

Cissy led the gang back to the beach.

"Our second challenge is a surfing race," she pointed to a float on the ocean water with a red flag on top, "We each ride, standing up, on a water Pokémon, surf up to the markers on top of the ocean and back again, and the first to come back to the beach again wins."

Ashlyn smiled, "Sounds fun."

"Blastoise, I choose you!" Cissy sent out the shellfish Pokémon.

"Blastoiseee!" Blastoise cried out.

"Blastoise is going to be your racing opponent." Cissy declared.

Ashlyn thought for a second, 'I'll get stick to him.' She thought and took out a Pokéball, "Lapras."

"Lapp!" Lapras smiled as he appeared.

"Hey Lapras, up for a swimming race?" Ashlyn asked her transport Pokémon.

Lapras nodded, excitedly, "Lap Lapp!"

"You can do this, Lapras!" Misty cheered.

"Raichu!" Tesla cheered as well.

"Well, lets get started." Cissy said.

Kenta held up a starting gun, "As soon as this goes off, the race starts." He explained.

"Are you ready?" Cissy asked.

"Ready." Ashlyn nodded.

Both Cissy and Ashlyn rode on the back of their Pokémon.

"READDYYYY..."

Both Pokémon took their places on the ocean water.

"... GOOO!" Senta fired the gun.

And both Water-type Pokémon took off.

"Wooooh, this is great!" Ashlyn smiled, as she felt the wind.

"Do it Blastoise." Cissy ordered.

"Do wha-! Ah! Never mind!" Ashlyn said, quickly as she was almost knocked off her Pokémon.

"Lap!" Lapras frowned and he tackled back.

"Blastoise!" Blastoise said, getting knocked.

"Lapras, double it!" Ashlyn ordered.

The transport Pokémon sped up.

"You too!" Cissy said.

The shellfish Pokémon followed.

They reached the flag and turned around, headed back to the shore line.

"You're better than I thought you be." Cissy complimented.

"Thanks." Ashlyn nodded and she heard the waves, "Erm?"

Both trainer and gym leader turns around and saw a giant wave, "Ah!"

Lapras turned his head and fired and Ice Beam attack at one side of the waves, while the other side was splashed onto Cissy and her Blastoise.

"Ahhhh!" Cissy screamed out, as the waves hit her and Blastoise, she was sent flying away from her Pokémon.

Ashlyn gasped in shocked, what she witness, "Oh no, Cissy!"

"Blastoise!" Cissy called out.

"Blastoiiseee!" Blastoise drove first and landed on the water and it's trainer landed on its back.

"You saved me Blastoise." Cissy said, relieved.

"Blastoise." The shellfish Pokémon nodded.

"Come on Blastoise, let's catch up!" Cissy said.

Blastoise sped up and caught up with Ashlyn and Lapras.

"We'll see ya at the finish line." Cissy told Ashlyn as they went past them.

Then Ashlyn had an idea, "Lapras use Ice Beam all the way." She said.

"LAPPPPP!" Lapras launched an Ice Beam attack from the water to the shore.

Ashlyn smirked, "Alright Lapras, go!"

Lapras hopped onto the ice and slide along it, catching up to Cissy.

"This battle isn't over yet!" Ashlyn declared.

Everyone carefully and fully focus on the two Pokémon and when they are close to the finishing line.

And the first Pokémon to reach the finishing line was...LAPRAS!

"Ah!" Senta gasped.

"Alright!" Misty and Tracey cheered.

"Rai!" Tesla jumped up and down.

"Raichu!" Raichu waved.

Volkner smiled.

"Yes!" Ashlyn cheered.

"Lapp!" Lapras stopped on the sand and cried out, happily.

Ashlyn got off Lapras and hugged him around his neck, "You were great, Lapras."

"Lap (Thank you, Ashlyn)." Lapras smiled.

"That was one of the best race I had in a while Ashlyn." Cissy complimented, "Using Lapras's Ice Beam attack to gain more speed by freezing the water."

"Yeah, that was the coolest." Senta agreed.

Cissy walked up to Ashlyn, "I can see why you've won the Indigo Plateau Conference. Your skill and abilities with your Pokémon are excellent." She continued to compliment Ashlyn.

"SAY WHAT?!" Senta looked directly at Ashlyn, "You're Ashlyn Ketchum, the winner of the Indigo Plateau Conference?" He questioned.

Ashlyn nodded, "I am."

Senta gawked at Ashlyn who raised an eyebrow and then dropped his head, "I can't believe it that I didn't recognize the name." He looked back at Ashlyn, "Wouldn't be much to ask for an autograph would it?" He asked, hopefully.

Volkner snorted in amusement.

Misty, Tracey, and Cissy laughed.

Ashlyn smiled, "Sure, I would love to."

Senta pulled out an autograph paper out of nowhere and handed to Ashlyn, who took it and signed it. "Here." She handed it back to the young Atsumi.

"Wahoo! Thanks." Senta took it.

"You're welcome." Ashlyn said.

Cissy clapped twice to get everyone's attention, "Alright time for the last part." She held out her hand which as a pink shell with a blue gem in the center, "Here is your prove of victory for winning at the Mikan Gym, the Coral-Eye Badge."

Ashlyn took a look at the badge; it was colored pink, in the shape of a clam shell, with a small blue gemstone.

"It looks like a sea shell." She said.

"That's because we base our gym badges from shells here on the Orange Islands." Cissy explained.

"Thank you." Ashlyn thanked Cissy.

With her first Orange gym badge in her hand, Ashlyn and the gang bid goodbye to Cissy and Senta, and left Mikan Island on Lapras to head over for the next island.
