Chapter 2: parental gifts

"What!!"

Ray mistakenly blurted out, not expecting them to arrive at his house.

"Oh, so you are inside then I'll come in then"

Immediately after the sergeant spoke, his body slowly passed through the door till he was standing fully in front of Ray which left him amazed.

"Wow, a phasing ability, that is really handy for infiltration, I wonder what is the full extent of the ability, can it phase through everything and can he phase just a part of his body"

Ray wondered in his thoughts so the sergeant broke the silence.

"If you didn't hear before, my name is Phillip. I am a sergeant of military zone four and I am here to take Ray Renard to the military academy.

"Errrrrrrrrrr"

Ray was in confusion of what to say and how to say it. Soon he gulps and was ready to speak up but...

"Don't lie, I know you are Ray and before I forget, your parents owned these when they were alive and told us to give it to you the day before you are to go to military academy"

The sergeant interrupted Ray before he spoke and brought out a small box-like object, a black ball of sort and a small star-shaped ear ring which confused Ray.

"What are they?"

Ray asked quite curious by the strange set.

"I don't know, we keep family inheritance sacred, that's why we didn't examine them"

Phillip replied while passing the set to Ray and then continued speaking.

"Sorry for the late delivery so I'll tell you something"

"Huh?"

"The thing in the box is from your dad while the black ball and ear ring is from your mum, keep that in mind"

"What kind of information is that?"

Ray thought

"But it's good to know that my parents cared about me even in death"

With a smile, Ray turned back to Philip which smiles back and said

"Ok then, I'll wait outside till you are ready to leave"

Without a second of hesitation, sergeant Philip left the room, phasing through the door. Ray thought he was a little too considerate as it was quite normal for some to wish to escape or evade going to military academy.

Staring at the objects in hand, Ray was completely void of reality, forgetting to ask the sergeant if it was possible to not attend military academy, he just stared at the items intensively trying to figure out what they were.

After some minutes of examining the gifts from his mother with no luck of understanding them, Ray started examining the box from his father.

"Hmmmmmmm, there's no unlock on this thing, how do I open it?"

Checking the body of the box, Ray manages to find a button under which he presses and Wala, the box started spatting shit.

"Loading all protocols, loading complete"

"What?!"

Ray screamed, throwing the talking box to his bed on reflex while the box continued talking.

"Identifying and scanning user, identifying and scanning user"

A green light shone from the box , moving from Ray's head to his feet.

"User scanned and identified. Ray Renard has been found. Beginning mechanical procedures"

Immediately the box opens up, blasting out bright white light, blinding Ray's eyes as he covers his eyes in pain. Soon after some minutes, the light grew dimmer and slowly disappeared.

Ray finally opened his eyes as the light show was over. On seeing the box open and no longer speaking, Ray rushed over to it and picked it up but upon looking inside.

" Empty!!! Then what the fuck was the matrix shit for?"

Ray threw the box away with a shout but froze immediately due to what was now in front of him.

"System implant complete"

"Huh?!"

Flying in front of Ray was a message that said system implant is complete while Ray smiles wryly.

"So fuck just keeps on happening, doesn't it?"

Ray thought with a sigh, wondering what the hell this thing was for and how to get rid of it. On thinking about getting rid of it, the message disappears.

"What? Wait, I want to see it again"

With a thought, the message appeared again in front of Ray eyes.

"It reacts to my thoughts, hmmmmm"

Stroking his chin, Ray wondered something

"Well, this is cool and all but how is it going to help me survive military academy, hmmmmm, I can't start blasting people with words, can I?, Neeeeee, that's technically impossible and I don't understand what this thing means by system, oh well, on to my mum's gifts"

Holding the black ball in his hand, words appeared in the air once again in front of Ray.

"User had come in contact with a mutant item"

"Mutant item?!"

"<Error> incapable of extraction of mutant cells due to low level of user"

" Low level?!!"

"Carrying out sync with mutant item, syncing... syncing... Syncing complete"

Steam slowly released from Ray's head as he read through the message.

"What the fuck is wrong with this? Is it broken or is this f*cking with me thinking I'm a genius who can understand what the hell it's saying, all I understand is that this thing is calling this beast weapon a mutant item which I don't still understand why?"

Without even a second glance, Ray turned off the messages and more appeared

"User benefits from immediate recommended weapon change in mutant item to suit user's mutant forms"

Ray still dismissed it and started examining the black ball as he thought.

"I can't waste my time in something I don't clearly understand, not yet anyway, what is this things use? Maybe, it's to throw at people as a weapon but still what kind of weapon is that? Wouldn't it be better as a katana?"

Immediately the black ball starts changing form, expanding and contracting, forming different shapes.

"Whoa, what's happening?"

Soon after some time, the black ball finally takes the form of a katana.

" What! Coool, very cool"

Said Ray with a smile as he started swinging the sword around him like a child who just found a new toy. Unfortunately, Ray foolishly made a slip up and cut off his arm or so he thought.

"What! How is this even possible?"

The katana passed through his hand instead of cutting and so Ray tried it again and again but still the same result. This put fear in Ray's heart as he thought.

"What can of f*cked up sword can't cut!"

With annoyances and rage, Ray slashed at his chair and yes, it cut, it sliced right through.

"Wha...what!!, Cooooolll!!!"

Ray was now looking at a chair completely split in half by HIM! Ray smile was now as wide as a crescent moon, that is what happens when you give power to a weakling.

"Axe"

Immediately after some time the katana changes it's form to an axe.

"Hmph, it takes a time period of five seconds to shape shift but I've never heard of a shape shifting beast weapon before, hmmmmmmm, oh well, thanks mum, you're the best, with this I think I can survive military academy"

"I don't advise that"

A girl's voice sounded from thin air which frightened Ray as he looked around and asked

"Whose there?!"

But got no reply expect for a weird silence in the room.

"That voice, I know that voice but I can't remember who the voice belongs, a girl, a girl I knew all too well but why? Why can't I remember"

Holding his head, Ray tried to calm the pain that came due to his hard thinking.

"Maybe it was just in my head"

Looking over to second item of his mother, Ray stroked his chin considering its use.

"What can I use with an ear ring? I bet it's just the one mum used which should be a sacred treasure to me as it's the second thing I have in connection to my mum but I'm looking for something useful right now. Hmmmmmmm"

Picking up the ear ring, once again,a message appeared for Ray.

"Oh come on"

"User has come in contact with mutant item,<error> incapable of extraction of mutant cells due to low level of user. Carrying out sync with mutant item, syncing... syncing... Syncing complete"

Ray was stunned, so stunned that he didn't even move an inch but all smiles could be seen on his face.
