Maiko's POV:
Born to a witch, I was told never to trust anyone but my own magic and my very first trip to the elven forests taught me exactly why that was. Scorned with the dagger-sharp gaze of the elves, my mother was treated worse than their slaves. Had it not been for her magic, I'm sure they would've torn us the moment we'd walked into their settlement.
Worst of all, the magic she brewed helped the sick in that very village, and yet the high and mighty elves shunned her for being a witch. Despite being just a child, I was treated no differently. If anything, not knowing magic of my own yet, they treated me worse knowing I couldn't do anything about it. But alas, my patience had limits, and one day on our visit when someone tried to hit me, I flung him through the forest with a corrupted vine sprouting from underneath his feet.
