Forced Confrontation

Marli's eyes were as wide as saucers when she came out of the gate. She glanced around the place as if she were seeking someone.

"What's wrong?" I frown at Marli as I removed the mask.

I breathed a sigh of relief when the fresh air touched my face.

"What of your husband?"

"Sly? Why are you asking of him? Isn't he back?"

Could it be that he's still with that female?

"No. I mean, did you see him tonight?"

"At the ball? Why will Sly be there?" I felt her forehead, "your temperature is hurt. I don't think you are feeling fine."

She blinked, "oh, that's right. The fall I took earlier must have aided the fever." She touched her forehead," My temperature is high."

"That's why your thoughts are muddled."

"Come, let's go inside, it's late."

She took my hand in hers and led me into the house.

There were no guards around when we came in.

"Wait for me. I need to firmly lock the doors."
