Games

After the first few moves, Linda and Steph gained a good enough knowledge of the game of Sevens to advise their partners. Linda, not quite having the courage to speak to Dannie, who she had not met before now, did her best to point out good moves whilst trying to steady her heart.

"You're really good at this." Dannie remarked. Linda looked away and seemed to squirm slightly – she isn't used to receiving compliments, so she had no idea how to react to such genuine praise.

"We haven't been able to move for three turns, Steph." Cried May. "What do we do?"

Steph put her fingers to her forehead and massaged it for a moment, in deep thought. "No, it could be…"

"What is it?"

"It's almost like… they can read our minds."

"You can read minds!" Said May. "B-but that's not really possible."

Dannie noticing May's the serious tone, stifled a giggle and cast a glance at Linda who had risen a hand to hide her smile. Linda's eyes met Dannie's, and they exchanged a smirk.

"Wait, are you saying that you two can't read minds?" Dannie asked with a confused expression. "I heard that only people that study hard in class can do it – you guys do that, don't you?"

"Yes!" They both said in unison, but then they exchanged glances and with a solemn expression admitted. "No."

"Well, that's a shame." Dannie said, shaking her head.

"Wait a minute," Steph said. "Prove that you can really read our minds."

"Alright…" Dannie looked around and then toward Linda. "How do you think we can prove it?"

Dannie looked at Linda, and Linda tried her best to stare back. It really looked like they were reading each other's mind instead of talking.

"Linda thinks that I should try to guess your cards." Dannie said innocent as an angel. "Will that work?"

"There's no way you will be able to do it!" Steph said resolutely.

May was unusually quiet, and her face flushed. Her eyes darted from her lap to toward Linda and back again.

"Is it really true that Linda can tell what I'm thinking?" Thought May. "If that's true, then I can't think about those dirty things --- but she might already know!"

May buried her head in her hands.
