Chapter 08: The Storm Queen's Law

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

It's my mum, Sunlight Clover. And next to her is...

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

My grandfather.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

He has pony ears, Unicorn horn and Pegasus wings. So that's what a humacorn looks like. Charlie, his face looks like yours.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

You're right, Hitch. Good looking guy.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

And who's that little filly he's holding?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

I don't know, but she has light green eyes, light purple mane and a light orange coat.

Sunny Starscout looked surprised because she recognized the little filly from the photo.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Oh, my stars! It's me. Then it is true. My dad is a humacorn and my mum knew.

Charlie and Sunny Starscout looked at each other.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Charlie, if my dad is your grandfather.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

And your dad is my dad's brother.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

That makes him my uncle and that makes us...

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN, SUNNY STARSCOUT (Unison):

Cousins.

Charlie and Sunny Starscout looked happy and hugged each other in excitement.

SUNNY STARSCOUT (Excited):

We're cousins!

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN (Excited):

I can't believe it! We are related!

SUNNY STARSCOUT (Excited):

This is amazing!

Hitch Trailblazer smiled when he saw Charlie and Sunny Starscout being very happy.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Looks like you have another member of your family, Sunny.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

I do. I can't wait to tell Izzy about this.

IZZY MOONBOW:

About what, Sunny?

Everyone looked shocked when they saw Izzy Moonbow in the same room with them.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Izzy, what are you doing here?

IZZY MOONBOW:

I came to see you, remember? I saw your living room looks different, then I went downstairs to find you and here I am.

Izzy Moonbow looked around the room.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Is this your secret hideout?

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

No, it's my dad's secret study room.

Izzy Moonbow looked at Charlie.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Oh. Who's your new friend?

Sunny Starscout introduced Izzy Moonbow to Charlie.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Izzy, this is Charlie Carvette Equestrian. He's human and he's from a dimension where our world is just a movie and a cartoon show.

Sunny Starscout whispered to Izzy Moonbow.

SUNNY STARSCOUT (Whispered):

And he knows everything about us.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Really?

Izzy Moonbow walked up to Charlie.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Hi, Charlie. I don't have to tell you my name because Sunny told me you knew me. So, can you tell me a few things what I love and what I am?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Well, all right, but prepare to be amazed.

Izzy Moonbow looked happy.

IZZY MOONBOW:

I'm preparing! I'm preparing!

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Okay. You love doing arts and crafts and glitter. Lots of glitter. You're very energetic, creative, optimistic, talented and you're also medium sneaky.

Izzy Moonbow looked amazed.

IZZY MOONBOW:

He's right. That's all of my favourite things! He does know about me!

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

And you never guess what, Izzy. Charlie is my dad's grandson. And my dad is a humacorn!

IZZY MOONBOW:

What? I thought he was an earth pony.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

He disguised himself as an earth pony, and his real name is Carvette Equestrian.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Carvette Equestrian? The humacorn who defeated the Storm King two thousand years ago?

Sunny Starscout and Hitch Trailblazer looked shocked.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

You knew about him?

IZZY MOONBOW:

Yes. I read one of his books before I went to Maretime Bay and met you and Hitch.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Why didn't you tell us?

IZZY MOONBOW:

You never asked.

Hitch Trailblazer rolled his eyes.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Why didn't I.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

But there's more. Charlie's dad is my uncle and that makes us cousins!

IZZY MOONBOW:

You and Charlie are cousins? What does that make me?

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

All right, let's not exaggerate things, Izzy. The important thing is we found out that Charlie and Sunny are related and Sunny's dad is still alive. Now let's find out more about the Storm Queen.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Isn't she the Storm King's wife?

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Not exactly. In my dad's last letter, he wrote that the Storm King transformed into the Storm Queen, but his spirit remains the same.

Izzy Moonbow looked confused.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Really? I don't get it.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Neither do I.

Hitch Trailblazer found a scroll at the table, picked it up and opened it.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Hey, guys. Look what I found.

Everyone gathered round Hitch Trailblazer.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

What is it, Hitch?

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

It's the Storm Queen's ultimate law.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

What does it say?

Hitch Trailblazer read the scroll.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

It said, By the power of the Storm Queen, I've destroyed the magic of friendship and hear by forcing three pony kinds to live in three separate places forever. But if any pony tries to unite with each other and bring the magic of friendship back, the penalty for everypony is death. And my assistants, the Cloverleaf family are here to keep the Pegasi and Unicorns away from the earth ponies if they want to live their lives without magic. DON'T BREAK MY LAW!

Izzy Moonbow looked a little scared, except Charlie and Sunny Starscout.

IZZY MOONBOW:

I don't know what I'm feeling right now, but the death part sounds scary.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

It's supposed to be scary and this is serious. The Storm Queen wrote that law a thousand years ago and the Cloverleaf family are working for her. I mean the Cloverleaf I know is my friend, Sprout and his mum, Phyllis.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Phyllis?

Charlie looked surprised.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Wait, that's it! Celestia told me in her last words to find Sunny and the earth pony named Phyllis! She wanted me to warn them about the Storm Queen's arrival.

Sunny Starscout looked confused.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Charlie, what do you mean her last words?

Charlie looked worried and took a deep breath and exhaled.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Well, now you know about the Storm Queen, I can tell you what happened to Celestia and Luna. When they took me and my dad to the Storm Queen's realm in Equestria. Then she caught us after we freed Princess Skystar and she was furious when she found out that Sunny united everypony and restore the magic. Celestia and Luna gave their lives to save us, so we can escape. While were in the airship, a storm tornado sucked me in, until a bright light saved me before I was unconscious. And then...

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

The bright light brought you to the beach where I found you.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Exactly.

Charlie noticed Sunny Starscout looked sad.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Sunny, I'm sorry. I know you were excited to see them, but...

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

That's okay. I should've let you explain before I got excited.

Hitch Trailblazer comfort Sunny Starscout.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Sunny, if it wasn't for the princesses' sacrifice, Charlie wouldn't be here right now.

Sunny Starscout smiled at Hitch Trailblazer.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

You're right, Hitch. They did that because they believed in him and we should do the same.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

But without the Humacorn crystal, I won't be able to use the magic I need to defeat the Storm Queen and save everypony in ancient Equestria.

Izzy Moonbow was thinking.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Humacorn crystal? Isn't that the Earth pony, Pegasus and Unicorn crystals?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Yes. How'd you know?

IZZY MOONBOW:

It's right over there.

Charlie saw what Izzy Moonbow was pointing at. Everyone looked surprised when they saw the humacorn crystal standing on the table.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

But that's impossible! We saw it disappear when we brought the magic back!

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Maybe it didn't disappear. It must've teleported to my dad's secret room.

IZZY MOONBOW:

That's what I was going to say!

Charlie stared happily at the humacorn crystal.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

It said, if a human touches that crystal, it will absorb its magic and become a humacorn.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Will it work?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

If it did for my grandfather, it will for me.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

How would you know?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Let's find out.

Charlie walked up to the humacorn crystal and Hitch Trailblazer looked worried.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Charlie, are you sure? Maybe you should think about this.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Hitch, I have thought about it. If I'm destined to restore ancient Equestria, I have to do this.

Charlie slowly reached out to the humacorn crystal and picked it up. Then it transformed into a magical spirit and absorbed into Charlie. Izzy Moonbow looked amazed at Charlie.

IZZY MOONBOW:

He looks magnificent!

Charlie didn't look pleased as he was still a human.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

That's because I look exactly the same, silly.

Everyone gathered round Charlie.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Are you okay?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Yeah, but I felt a strange tingle. Isn't that normal?

Hitch Trailblazer took a good look at Charlie.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Hmm. No, Pegasus wings. No pony ears and no Unicorn horn.

Charlie looked unhappy.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

I guess it didn't work for me.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Maybe it did. The magic is inside you, Charlie. So, you have to find a way to awaken it if you want to become a humacorn.

Charlie smiled a little bit.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

You're probably right, Sunny. Maybe that's how my grandfather did it.

Izzy Moonbow spotted a sword hanging on the wall and she thinks it's a stick.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Wow! Look at that shining stick and it looks sharp.

Everyone looked at the sword and Charlie recognised it.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

That's not a stick. That's my grandfather's sword. The Equestrian Sword!

Charlie slowly reached out and grabbed the Equestrian Sword with both hands and removed it from the wall. Everyone looked at the sword that Charlie was holding and Hitch Trailblazer spotted six familiar holes on it.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Hey, look at these holes. They represent the Elements of Harmony.

Sunny Starscout looked stunned when she saw those six holes.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

You're right. Hitch. These must be where the Spirits of Harmony needed to go.

IZZY MOONBOW:

But what is that sword for?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

It's for defeating the storm creatures and the Storm Queen. And it's also for protecting Equestria. My grandfather found it somewhere under the sea, but I don't know where. Now this sword is in my hands, I'll use it to protect everypony and my family.

Sunny Starscout placed her hoof on Charlie's hand.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Our family.

Charlie smiled and nodded his head. Hitch Trailblazer looked a little nervous.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Are you sure you're gonna carry your grandfather's sword like that, Charlie? It doesn't look safe.

Charlie looked around the room and saw a scabbard standing next to a chair. He walked up to it, picked it up and placed his sword in it.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

It does now.

Charlie placed his sword behind his rucksack.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Well, come on. Let's go to the Canterlogic factory and find Phyllis.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Wait. I need to know something. Why did the Storm Queen destroy the magic and separate everypony, before we reverse it?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Because she hates friendship, and she only cares about power and destruction.

Sunny Starscout looked shocked.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

She hates friendship? That explains it.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

But that's not all. She's not just after Phyllis or anypony. She's after you, Sunny. Because she knows you bought the magic back and united everypony. But don't let that stop you. We have the magic, and now we must use it to stop the Storm Queen, save the Guardians of Harmony, protect everypony we know and bring ancient Equestria back the way it was.

Sunny Starscout looked pleased.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

And find my dad?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

And find my grandfather.

Charlie opened his hand to Sunny Starscout.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

We'll do our part.

Sunny Starscout lends her hoof and shook Charlie's hand.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Hoof to heart.

Izzy Moonbow was surprised after hearing Charlie's smartphone vibrating in his pocket.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Charlie, your pants are alive!

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

That's just my phone, Izzy.

Charlie took his phone out of his pocket and looked at it.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

It's a text from my dad.

Everyone looked at Charlie's phone, while he was reading the text message from it.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Charlie boy, we'll be at Maretime Bay in the hour. Please be safe. Dad.

Another text message with two hearts emoji signs appeared in Charlie's phone and Hitch Trailblazer was reading it.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

I'm coming for you, my love.

Hitch Trailblazer looked confused after he read the message.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Why would your dad write that to you, Charlie?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

I believe Skystar wrote that. She must've learned how to use the phone.

IZZY MOONBOW:

I know I heard you say that name before, Charlie, but who's Skystar?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

She's a hippogriff and the princess of Mount Aris and Seaquestria.

Izzy Moonbow gasped excitedly.

IZZY MOONBOW (Excited):

Mount Aris and Seaquestria? Ohh, I always wanted to go there! There lots of hippogiriffs and seaponies! And they made necklaces out of seashells! But if you said you saved Skystar, Charlie, that means she'll love you forever!

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Are all hippogriffs and seaponies like this?

IZZY MOONBOW:

I don't know. I only brought that up because you told me she's a princess.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Let's discuss this later, Izzy. We need to get to the Centerlogic factory and warn Phyllis before the Storm Queen gets here.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

She right. Let's go, everypony!

Everyone followed Charlie and left Carvette's secret study area. Hitch Trailblazer grabbed the Storm Queen's ultimate law scroll and followed his friends. After they left the lighthouse and went outside, Charlie looked surprised when he and his friends stopped running and saw Maretime Bay in the distance.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Wow! Maretime Bay.

IZZY MOONBOW:

Have you been there before?

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

No, but I know that place.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

Then you better follow me. I know the entire city. And we can't tell everypony about the Storm Queen until we talk to Phyllis.

CHARLIE CARVETTE EQUESTRIAN:

Do they know about the Storm Queen?

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

I don't know. Maybe they do, but they might be afraid to talk about it.

Hitch Trailblazer agreed with Sunny Starscout.

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

She's right, Charlie. We can't let everypony panic, until we confront Phyllis.

IZZY MOONBOW:

So, we're gonna be medium sneaky, right?

HITCH TRAILBLAZER:

Yes.

SUNNY STARSCOUT:

All right, let's go!

Everyone followed Sunny Starscout to Maretime Bay.
