I Couldn’t See Your Face Clearly

Qin Nuan frowned. That didn't sound right. Wasn't Song Zhan the super devoted second male lead in the book that secretly held a torch for her? Shouldn't his eyes be filled with tenderness when he looked at her? Why was he so polite and distant? 

Was Song Zhan just too introverted and hid his love for Qin Nuan so well that he didn't reveal his true feelings the slightest bit? 

Qin Nuan couldn't figure it out, so she just looked down and replied, "Tai'an Condominium." 

Song Zhan raised an eyebrow upon hearing her reply as if he was surprised that she wasn't staying in the Li house. But he didn't probe further and walked out with Qin Nuan. 

After getting into the car, Song Zhan suddenly turned around to look at the person in the passenger seat next to him. "Miss Qin, do you really…not know me anymore?" 

Qin Nuan was looking down and trying to fasten her seatbelt when he asked. She thought he was asking about why she had just called him 'Mr. Super Handsome' earlier, so she gripped the seatbelt a little tightly in embarrassment. 

"You were walking against the light, so all I saw was the glow from the light around you. I…couldn't see your face clearly. 

After hearing that, Song Zhan looked at Qin Nuan and sighed in a shallow voice.

Qin Nuan lifted her head and smiled faintly at the man who was looking at her so fixedly. 

His gaze was intense. He seemed to be staring at her but also seemed to be trying to see someone else through this face of hers. 

She looked back at his gaze that was as deep as a lake, and simply couldn't figure out what he was thinking about. 

She just felt like there was some mystery about him that she still didn't know about. 

But she was supposed to be the female lead which held the complete script in her hands! 

Could it be that the love line in this script had gone off course? 

After a long time, Song Zhan stopped looking at her and focused on driving. 

Qin Nuan looked out of the window at the city's neon lights flashing by and felt that the atmosphere in the car was so quiet, it felt creepy. Her heartfelt like it was crawling with ants, and it made her feel like all her hair was on end. 

And so Qin Nuan cleared her throat and decided to cling to this powerful character of the book, which seemingly had a hidden identity. 

"Uh…handsome…I mean, Brother Zhan, I heard from my brother that you were the one who introduced me to my manager?" 

"That's right. Sister Tan is a competent person." 

"Brother Zhan, you managed to take the Best Actor award at such a young age; that's simply amazing! I really idolize you!"

"Thank you." 

"..." 

Qin Nuan stuck her tongue out in the rear mirror. There was no way she could continue this conversation. 

Song Zhan seemed to realize that he had killed the conversation, so he rubbed his nose before asking, "What about you? Why did you suddenly want to act?" 

When she heard the word 'act,' Qin Nuan immediately became interested. She turned to look at Song Zhan, and her almond-shaped eyes lit up beyond belief. "That's because my dream is to become the most outstanding actress!" 

Qin Nuan's voice was gentle and soft, but she said these words with great resolute, and the crispness of her words could move one's heart. 

The car happened to hit a red light, so it stopped. Song Zhan turned to look fixedly at Qin Nuan, and there seemed to be some emotions deep in his eyes. 

Every smile and frown of the girl in front of him seemed to match the face he remembered. Even her eyes and eyebrows were filled with energy. 

He remembered that she said before, "My dream is to become the most outstanding actress."

Qin Nuan finally received a phone call from Tan Xue after lazing about in her apartment for three whole days. 

"Xiaonuan, I've arranged an audition for a drama for you, the audition is happening at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Get yourself dressed and ready; I'll drive to your place and pick you up in a while." 

After hanging up, Tan Xue sent more details about the audition over. 

Qin Nuan looked through the information seriously. 

The drama she was auditioning for was a historical drama with a leading female role called The Zhen Emperor's Consort. This was a drama adaptation of a book that had been popular these last two years. Ever since it was first adopted, its popularity had never gone down. The director and producer were big names in the industry, so it was considered a major television production with a high budget. 

The Zhen Emperor's Consort was set in a time before China's unification and told the story of a girl, Zheng Yan, who once belonged to a powerful family that had fallen from grace. When her own state was on the verge of being conquered, she became friends with the neighboring state's crown prince, Song Hanguang, and its ruler, the Zhen Emperor, Song Xuanran. The three of them went through struggles in love and slowly matured together. Zheng Yan eventually helped the Zhen Emperor, Song Xuanran, to unify all the various states to become an empire leader.
