Chapter 32: Exams

Waking up with your loved one in your arms makes you feel complete. But I somehow felt annoyed as Uncle Ryo and Yu are giving me knowing grins. As Izanami left my embrace to take a bath, I can finally feel blood coming back to my arms.

"Have you studied Yu?"

"Of course."

"How about you Nanako?"

"Of course papa! I'll get the first rank this year!"

"Hahaha, tell you what Nanako if you score perfectly in this test, we'll go on another trip."

Nanako's eyes shine with determination after her father's promise.

As they are having idle chatter, I can finally move the right side of my body, so I finally left the living room to take a bath.

On the way to school, me and Yu are walking together, as we're soon joined by Yosuke.

"So did you study for the test?"

"Yeah. what about you?"

"I feel like I've failed already, so I stayed up late last night hence ---"

I heard a voice cut in

"You stayed up last night to play games didn't you?"

It's chie.

"GAHHH! Don't scare me like that!"

"You're hopeless. At least try to act responsibly."

"Even if I studied, I'll still fail so why bother, I'll just take the extra classes after."

A calculated move, didn't know you had it in you Yosuke.

"But that means less time you get to spend with Saki-senpai, you dummy."

"What does that have to do with this?"

"ARGH! You're so dense and dumb, tell him Yu!"

"You're dense and dumb."

Yu parroted Chie.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

I laughed at their antics in the morning.

"What?"

"No, I'm just surprised you laugh that's all."

"Hey, hey I'm human too you know."

"Sure thing [Demon King]-sama."

As Yu laughed nervously. What's with him calling me Demon King oh well. But I'm keeping my eyes on Yu.

"What are you guys talking about?"

A wild Yukiko and Saki appears

"We are condemning Yosuke for not studying."

Yu said stoically.

"Oh, Yosuke didn't study?"

Ask Saki with a disappointed sisterly tone.

"O-O-Of course I did. Hey what gives, Yu?"

"Just admit it."

Yu said stoically.

"Of course I did. I'm just not as smart as you, but I tried my best!"

Yosuke retorted hoping to redeem himself.

"Well it's you who's just dumb and helpless."

We all agreed with chie's statement.

The first day of the exams. It's PE (Physical Education) and History. Yeah, why would PE have a written test? That, I do not know. But it's surprisingly easy. I finished first, so now I have time to kill. Yu's doing fine, Yukiko too. Yosuke seems like he's a fish out of water. Chie, well she's hard to read. Her face can change from confident to despair then to acceptance.

Well hang in there guys.

Everyone went straight home after the exams to study. Except for me, I went to Isshin's dojo.

"Akira! I'm not expecting you today."

"I'm just checking on Sakamoto."

"Whatever you did, it worked. Maybe I should've beaten some sense into him too. But alas, what's done is done. Sakamoto's back in Tokyo. But, since you're here would you like to stay for tea? "

"That will be much appreciated."

So I spent time listening to Isshin talking about his golden years. And a bit about Sakamoto towards the end. The tea was very good.

"Sakamoto finally called me father yesterday. After so many years."

As a manly tear escapes his eyes.

"Well what can I say, after being around Uncle Kaz, you'll learn a trick or two"

Like the tal…. Fist-no-jutsu. If they're not listening then you aren't hitting hard enough.

"Ah yes, Kiryu Kazama, the dragon of dojima. How is he these days?"

"He's living quietly until recently."

"And how has your plan been going? I heard new schools and dormitories are built under OA. It's good to have such noble goals but aren't you pushing it too much, Akira?"

"I need good exposure, and I need it fast. Time's changing, you and I both know that the government won't stay silent after this."

"It is as you say. I myself have no qualms about sheltering families and schooling childrens. But my concern lies within the management. I worry about their future, will they hate us by growing up amongst us? Will they resent us?"

"That's why I'm doing this, Isshin. To show the world, when it comes down to it. We can pull our weight with or without the government. The Yakuza is scattered and unorganized, I shall organize them, teach them, shelter them , and let them grow."

"You really are different Akira. Before I forget, A friend of mine asked me about you. He's Issei Ichijou, head of the Gumi clan. The biggest clan of the Tohoku Region. He would like to meet you."

Hmmm where have I heard of that name before? But the tohoku region huh? That's the northern part of Honshu Island. If we can secure an alliance with him. We would be closer to unifying Japan's underworld. As of right now, OA is in control of the Kansai and Chugoku region, while TJC is in control of Chubu and Kanto region.

"Tell him I'll be visiting him some time in the future."

"Of course."

"Then I'll head back first, I still have midterms tomorrow."

The days went by and it's Thursday before I knew it, the final day of the exams. After finishing up the last exam which is geography. I heard a voice, it's Yosuke

"It's Finally OVER!"

"Crap! Math's really hard, What do those numbers mean anyway!"

I get you Chie. I'm even more surprised. The questions are quite more complex than the study materials. What's more surprising is it's not all just counting exercises, there's also theories and even trap questions. Well played.

"And to think that they'll put up the score for everyone to see. That's public execution I tell you!"

Oh yeah our scores will be posted huh. I wonder how I do.

"Hey did you hear ---"

Ah it's that time, there seems to be rumor surrounding a local biker gang. And a TV station's going to cover their story sometime later.

"I heard that there's one first year student who has something to do with that biker gang."

"Really Yosuke?"

"Yeah, though I'm not sure if he's a member or not."

Oh yeah, that's going to be the next member of the investigation team. Kanji Tatsumi, he's a hotheaded, muscle first, no bullshit type of character. He's been known as a notorious delinquent. But deep down inside he's just caring for his mother. The 'bullying' he has done is just disturbing biker gangs here and there, because it keeps his mother up at night.

Biker gangs. They're not Yakuza's that's for sure. Just a bunch of street thugs… wait I can work with this.

I immediately called Emma.

"Yes Akira-sama?"

"Does the Ashina family have a connection with the infamous Biker gang that's recently been a nuisance around town?"

"No, they're not a part of us."

"Good. How's the traffic on the mountainside road north of Inaba?"

"Hmmmm, there doesn't seem to be a problem, no, it's more accurate to say that it's abandoned since people who come to Inaba these days use highways and the train. Akira-sama, I know I don't have the right to deter you from this. But please reconsider."

She seemed to have caught on what I wanted to do. But that's not gonna deter me.

"Please extend my invitation to the biker gang then."

"*sigh* anything else Akira-sama?"

"I may need to borrow a car and a bike."

Arriving back home I heard a loud obnoxious voice calling me out.

"Akira, how have you been? Come give me a hug!"

Daigo-nii seemed to have arrived at Uncle Ryo's residence. It really escaped my mind that Daigo-nii will come to visit.

"Good, what about you?"

As I reach my hand towards him for a hug. But something doesn't feel right, Just like that, I was held in my belly, as my feet lifted off the ground, then a german suplex.

*Bang*

"GOD DAMN BRO! Did you know how much you made mom nag at me everyday? He asked me for a kid, A KID!? Where did my cute little brother go? Now all I see is a demon!"

I feel like a tick mark is made in my head, as me and Daigo-nii duke it out in the front gate.

"Are they always like this?" asked nanako.

"Yep, every chance they get." answer another childlike voice.

*Bang Bang* I feel my head got bonk-ed by something blunt, with such a force that it immediately sent my face to the ground.

Daigo-nii doesn't seem to fare better as he was also buried face first to the asphalt.

"Behave or next thing you'll find out what's on the next thing you see is the other side."

That's my wife.

Now me and Daigo-nii are asked to perform a Dogeza. So we did. Now I see who's talking to Nanako before, it's Haruka.

"Long time no see Haruka."

"Hello Akira-Nii."

That's haruka, with a girl with short hair and a hairpin on her left side. She's wearing a white sweater. This girl is Kiryu's 'Daughter'.

"What brings you here?"

"I came along with Daigo-nii."

I turned towards Daigo-nii, and with his eyes he's saying something along the lines of we'll talk later.

"So how long are you staying?"

"Until sunday."

"Well what are we waiting for Nii-san, I have some activities for us both."

While raising his brow, he just nods his head. Playing along with me.

"Are you going to come back for dinner?"

"No, tell Uncle Ryo we'll be out till night, no, on the second thought, let me call him."

"Okay then, don't cause too much trouble."

You know me too well.
