3 The Monastery

(Rin): "Haaaah"

Man that was nerve-wracking. I never felt something like that in both my old life and in Rins life. That Mephisto guy is definitely bad news. I wonder how Rin didn't realise this until later on in the manga?

I spent some more time speaking with father until I realise the sun's setting so I returned back to the monastery. Today's been a weird day and I need to think.

I never realised this when I was walking out but this place's massive. In my previous life I never even seen a monastery, let alone visit one, so this is a new experience to me.

I entered the monastery and met the other priest again. They must hate me for killing father.

(izumi): "Rin, your back! Have you spoken with Father Fujimoto?"

When I opened the door to the main hall I meet Izumi. From Rin's memories I remember he's an easy-going young man with spiky blonde hair, wearing a typical cassock of a priest.

I guess, even if they're scared of me, they still care, huh?

(Rin): "Yeah, I just got back. Umm... Is it alright if you can round everyone up in the monastery, Please? I want to talk to them… about this event."

(izumi): "yeah... sure... no problem."

After a few minutes, the priests gathered up in the main hall. I look at each of the priests but then I realised. where's yukio?

If I remember correctly, in the manga Yukio was at the graveyard along with rin and the other priest, but I don't remember seeing him when I visited father earlier.

(Rin): "Thank you everyone for coming to hear me out. Umm... Where's Yukio?"

I'm pretty sure he should've been here for the funeral, so he must've left already to go to true cross academy.

(Nagamoto): "Yukio's already went back to the academy to sort things out with his transfer."

(Rin): "Oh, I see."

Nagamoto-san, a Priest with short, wavy brown hair, dark brown eyes and a small goatee on his chin answered my question. Looks like I was right. Well better not drag this out and get to the point of this gathering.

(Rin): "Umm... I know everyone is sad for fathers death and is scared of me for awakening my powers. I'm pretty sure some of you hate me right now but I want you all to know about this. I love this monastery. I've grown up here since I can remember and I've always thought of you guys as my family even though we aren't related... and I'm sorry for all the troubles I've caused over the years because of my differences."

I have to say this kind of goodbye else it wouldn't feel right to me. The old me forgot what it was like to be loved, so I don't want to leave any loose ends when I'm going to become an Exorcist.

(Rin): "When I was visiting father, I was thinking about what to do from now on. I can't be the same hot-headed brat who only knows how to get into trouble... so I've decided. I'm gonna be an Exorcist!"

The other Priests look at me in surprise. Well I would too if I find out a Demon wanted to be an Exorcist. Of course, only if I know supernatural things exist in the first place.

(Nagamoto): "Is that your decision, Rin?"

(Rin): "Yeah. I can't run from who I am. I can only change myself and do the best I can do."

(Nagamoto): "Well, if that's your decision than you got our support Rin. We've always fought of you and Yukio as our little nephew's anyway, so you can rely on as uncles, you know?"

(Rin): "Th-thanks"

Man, I really need to stop crying or everyones gonna think i'm a crybaby.

(Kyodo): "Aww, don't cry there. You need to learn to keep your chin up"

Kyodo-san, another Priest with a close shaved black hair and dark eyes, with the usual priest cassock, called me out. This guy...

(Rin): "Yeah. Oh, I just remembered, I'm wearing your suit still. Sorry its all roughed up."

(Kyodo): "Nah, it's all good as long as you're all right"

(Rin): "Before I go and get changed, I have a question. What's gonna happen to the Monastery?"

(Nagamoto): "Well Sir Pheles was here a few moments ago saying that he'll be assisting with running the monastery and I've been nominated as chief, so it's gonna get busy here a while."

Yeah, the Demons really done a number to the old Monastery.

(Rin): "By the way, Kyodo-san, what are those tattoos on your hands?"

I've just noticed that on the back of each of Kyodo-san's hands there's some kind of seal on it. Looks like a circle with an equilateral triangle in it with another circle in that triangle.

(Kyodo): "Oh, this? It's a seal I use when exorcising demons. Since I'm not good with a sword or a gun I opt for my fist instead. But I have to use it with a chant or else it's like me punching someone."

(Izumi): "It's one of the few things he's useful for."

(Kyodo): "Hey. You didn't have to say that, you know."

This... is peaceful. I want to protect this. I don't want to experience that night again. I won't allow it to happen again.

(Rin): "I'm gonna call it a day now. Can you guy's fix something up before I sleep."

(Nagamoto): "No problems here Rin. Just make sure to clean up, get changed and go to sleep. Sir Pheles is picking you up tomorrow so you better get a good night's sleep."

(Rin): "Yeah, thanks. You too."

I go upstairs to the joint room where me and Yukio normally sleep. I guess this will be the last time I sleep here, huh? Since I'm RIn now all of his relatives and friends are basically mine as well now. Well, his soon to be friends, huh.

Before I go sleep though I need to test out my suspicions, else I won't be able to sleep tonight.

(Rin): "System open!"

Nothing happened.

(Rin): "Huh? Open! Start! Commence! Activate!"

I feel like an idiot. Well at least I know that I don't have a system. Shit, that means I have no shortcuts to help me get stronger.

(Rin): "well no point in moping about something like that. Although, I feel like I've been denied something important."

Oh, well let's get some sleep. The day has been hectic and I can only worry about what the future is going to hold for me.

(Rin): "I wonder if she even cares about where I am, right now?"

I can't help start thinking about my past life. About my mother. I wonder if she's happy i'm finally gone from her life?

-Nagamoto's Pov-

Rins awakened his flames now and Father Fujimoto is dead. The monastery is gonna be in chaos for a while now without Shiro. But at least we don't have to worry about Rin anymore. That kid... this experience definitely changed him.

How should I say it? The other priests have noticed it too. He seems to be much calmer and not hot-headed or impulsive as he was before. Well, whatever it is, I pray for your well being and prosperity Rin, until we meet again. I can't wait to see how much you've grown.

-Yukio's Pov-

Damn, it's already getting late. The sun's already setting and I still have work to do. Looks like I'm going to have another night without sleep.

(Door-kun): knock* knock*

(Mephisto): "Enter~."

I knocked on the door to sir Pheles' office a few times before opening the door when I got a reply. As I enter the room I see him. Mephisto Pheles. A man with purple hair and forest green eyes wearing his usually jester's outfit. I seem to have entered when he's busy playing with his console.

(Mephisto): "And, to what do I owe the pleasure, Mr Okumura?"

(Yukio): "Sir Pheles, my father has passed away..."

(Mephisto): "Yes, I am aware."

(Yukio): "...My brother and myself... What will happen to us now?

(Mephisto): "I will take up the burden of becoming your legal guardian~. Also Rin Okumura has expressed a sincere desire to become an Exorcist, so I have decided to allow him to attend the Exorcist Cram School~"

(Yukio): "Huh!?"

What? Nii-sans going to be an Exorcist?

(Mephisto): "Seeing as he is too stupid for his own good, he will also be required to attend High School. Hmm lets see, oh yes! It will be your responsibility to monitor him. You see I want to keep what's happening here a secret from the higher-ups of the Order for just a little longer. I've arranged for you to room with him in an isolated dormitory. I'd also like you to take Fujimoto's place as an instructor at the cram school. You're going to be very busy~! First of all, I'd like to find out the extent of Rin Okumura's powers, as well as his mental stability. Perhaps you could conduct an experiment to see how he copes with fighting against weak Hobgoblin-level Demons?"

(Yukio): "Sir, we don't even know if he can adequately suppress Satan's flames! Are you out of your mind!?

I can't believe this! Not only is nii-san aiming to be an exorcist,but I'm going to replace fathers job and be a teacher of the cram school! Not only that but wants me to test rin by fighting demons! Rin is too unstable to even be of use.

(Mephisto): "It'll be fine~. I'll make sure I'm free tomorrow to follow around as well."

This guy...

(Yukio): "Sir... what exactly are you scheming!?"

(Mephisto): "Come now, stop trying to pressure me. The excitement is best saved for later~."

I can't stand this anymore, and the worst part is that I can't even go against his order, so I excused myself.

(Yukio): "If you'd excuse me, Sir."

(Mephisto): "Yes very well. Oh, that reminds me, I'll keep rumours of that incident away from Rins ears to hear~."
