82 Nostalgia
Hito was surprised by Charlotte's sudden kiss, but he immediately calmed down. There were some girls who just had that trait.
Kissing someone's cheeks to express their happiness wasn't unusual in the US. But the problem now was that they were in Japan! Here people had to have a deep relationship to even be on a first name basis, much less kiss someone on the cheek so casually.
So it was rather rare to see such a behavior. Seeing that their leader boldly kissed Hito, they couldn't help but feel shocked, and there was also a little bit of jealousy mixed within.
As for Shouko she had already turned into a statue for a while now. Inside this room she was the most affected individual! After all she knew Hito longer than anyone else in this room and had the deepest relationship with him.
Also her feelings for him were deep; really deep, unlike the members of Charlotte's band, who only had the impression of Hito being really handsome and extraordinarily talented in the art of Music.
Shouko's feelings were strong and genuine. She only cared a little about Hito's appearance because she liked him for who he was on the inside, for what he was as a person and not for his outer appearance nor his talents and charisma. It could be said that Shouko had the most genuine and passionate feelings for Hito among all the girls he interacted with. After all, she had seen him when he was at his worst and didn't have all the talents and charisma that attracted the other girls at a single glance. Possibly no other girl could love Hito so genuinely as Shouko does.
Charlotte didn't care about what she did because she was fully aware of her actions, and she didn't regret it even if it was a reflexive reaction. She was just so happy that her subconscious mind thought that she could only kiss Hito on his cheeks to express how happy she was! Who knows, maybe if nobody was around she would've even directly kissed him on the lips, that's how happy she felt at this moment. But she wouldn't have done it to anyone other than Hito, because he had left a deep impression on her mind that spurred her to have this kind of reaction.
"Tadano-san you're really amazing! You casually improved our song to this level like it was nothing!"
"It's nothing, I just felt a sudden inspiration that's all." Hito wasn't lying. Ever since he upgraded music to Monster grade, every second, he felt inspiration to create masterful musical creations.
It was a feeling that he couldn't understand. But if we had to explain in simple terms then it was like every idea he made would be perfect and could create legendary tier songs.
Hito felt like he could endlessly create songs regardless of their category such as Love Songs, Classic, Rock and many many more, and each song he would create would become an original creation of the highest tier that would make any listeners breathless regardless of their preferences in genre and form of music. It was just that good! It could mesmerise anyone and everyone!
Thereafter, Charlotte proceeded to show the improved version of their original song to her bandmates, and as they saw it, they couldn't keep their cool anymore! They were all very excited and could finally understand why Charlotte immediately hugged Hito and kissed him on the cheek!
In fact they were also very tempted to do the same! However, they weren't as bold as Charlotte, so they could only look at Hito with an extremely grateful and mild longing expression.
After all it was because of Hito improving their original top quality song that it became an original that could easily qualify as a world class tier song!
At first they were sad because their guitarist left them and transferred to another school. But now instead of being sad, they were happy, grateful even that she transferred schools!
Because if she didn't, they wouldn't have requested for the Service Club's help! If their guitarist didn't transfer, then they wouldn't have been able to meet Hito and their song would've stayed the same. It would've only remained as a top quality song not the world class masterpiece that they had on their hands now. Humans were unpredictable creatures like this. The reason for which they became extremely sad and felt hopelessness could easily become the reason for their newfound happiness, hope and success.
The bandmates knew that once they played this song, recorded it and posted it online, they were guaranteed to become famous overnight!
Becoming a top band wasn't just a mere dream anymore, it was well within their grasp.
And the reason for all of these was Hito and Hito alone. They wanted so much for Hito to join their band, but they knew that he would refuse. So they didn't think about pestering him about it anymore, but they were still very grateful to him for improving their song, and that too free of charge.
While Charlotte's team was dreaming, Hito suddenly spoke. "You guys didn't name the song yet, right?"
Hearing that their attention immediately shifted in Hito.
That's right! They hadn't made a name yet! They already had the lyrics and instrument notes but they didn't even think of a title yet!
Not only Charlotte but also her team was looking at him. Even if they didn't say anything Hito knew what they wanted.
They wanted him to name the song! Hito thought about it for a while and finally answered.
"How about 'Nostalgia'?"
Their eyes brightened, it was a perfect name! They immediately accepted the song title given by Hito. Charlotte spoke.
"Okay, let's name it 'Nostalgia'!"
After that, they finally started their practice, and they were more energized than usual! After all, they couldn't wait to try the improved version of their original.
Since it was an improved version, they had to start all over again. But they were not at all discouraged about it! On the contrary, they were even more enthusiastic about it! It was a world class tier song they were gonna practice for f***s sake, of course they would be so enthusiastic, people would have questioned their identity as a band if they weren't at least this much lively about it.
If we had to compare the two songs, it would be if the previous version of the song was dirt then the new version was pure gold. There were no other comparisons better than this to describe it.
Also the improved version had more rhyme and notes to follow, and some of it were very advanced and hard to follow even for those experienced band artists. But it wasn't impossible to perform and could be practiced to nigh-perfection slowly but surely.
And they had all the time they needed at their hands, after all it wasn't like they were going to a competition later and had to finish it quickly. They could slowly rehearse and practice their performance at least to a passable level, maybe even take it to nigh-perfection level? But the chances of that happening was miniscule because they weren't at that level yet.
As the practice started, it was as Hito expected it to be, an utter and total mess. So, Hito had to help them to get in tune with rhymes and rhythm of the song and in following the notes. Basically he had to help them to even start making a sense of the song. After all, a world class tier song wasn't a joke and not everyone could perform it. Otherwise there wouldn't be so few top bands in the world.
One by one he taught them what to do. Hito explained it based on what they knew and what would be the easiest and most efficient way for the girls to understand his explanations.
This was also one of the perks of having his Music upgraded to Monster grade. He could easily teach somebody almost anything, near perfectly, as long as it's regarding Music.
At this rate he might even become a music teacher. Shortly after, the second practice began and it was at least several times better than the first!
Shouko who was listening to them, couldn't help but find it amazing. She didn't know much about music, but the kind of song that they were currently playing was something that she would very much like to hear.

An hour later,
It was finally time for Hito to leave. It was because he still had to go to Ryōzanpaku to train.
Charlotte and her team were very regretful that they couldn't stop him and they could do nothing about it. After all, he wasn't a member of their band and was unlike them who could easily stay overnight just to practice the song. It was understandable since he didn't have any obligation to stay and also had his own schedule and work to do. He had already done enough for them and they couldn't be so shameless as to stop him and hinder his own work just to teach them.
So Charlotte gave Hito her phone number so that if they were stuck and needed advice and instructions, she could just call and ask for his help over the phone. It would still hinder him but not as much if he stayed here.
At the hall, Shouko and Hito were walking together and he asked.
"Do you like the way we played the song?"
Shouko nodded and she wrote. ( Yes, very much so. Hito you were really amazing to be able to improve their song. I may not know anything about music but I'm pretty sure it's super hard to improve a song, and you even did it so easily! You are simply amazing! )
Hito could only smile and reply. "Thank you."

Suddenly Hito spoke. "Shouko, can I hold your hand?"
Hearing something unexpected, Shouko was surprised and immediately started to blush heavily upon hearing those words, and she wrote.
( Why? )
Reading that. Hito replied while scratching the back of his head. "There's no particular reason for it. I just want to hold your hand, so can I?"
Shouko looked at him for a while. Right now she felt really complicated as she wasn't sure what their relationship was anymore.
She liked him and he liked her, but none of them made a move. But she still nodded.
Slowly the two of them held hands as they walked the path of the school hall at a slow and steady pace.
Their relationship might be complicated, but for now Shouko was satisfied with this form of slight skinship. She really liked the warm feeling that Hito gave to her while he held her hand on his. It made her feel fuzzy and warm. It gave her indescribable joy to be held by the one she liked, and maybe even loved?
It also gave her a sense of security she felt only at home surrounded by her family. She felt that when they held hands she was safe and free, as if she was protected from all the insecurities and troubles she had.
Just like that the two silently held each other's hands and enjoyed their warmth and the silence that reminded them of this time, that was theirs and theirs alone.
