As the wheel landed, the guts stretched beyond their capacity for flexibility, and tore, spilling their contents all across the ground as they fell. It was a scene that was gruesome beyond belief, but somehow, for Vol, it didn't rock him nearly as much as the first two had – not now that he'd expected it.

He was able to stride forward with a greater purpose in his boots, almost angry now. There had to be a limit to madness, his body seemed to be telling him. The more one dwelled in the chaos, the more organised it became, and the more difficult it should have been to surprise him. He was determined to get his task out of the way, as though it were some measly chore, somehow tricking himself into action.
