Chapter 16 – Count Nest's Problem
The deck was coated with blood by the time the Sea Serpents were done. Corpses were everywhere. Severed limbs were just as numerous amongst them, and severed heads were rarer, but plentiful enough.
They'd performed the slaughter quickly, but not as quickly as they'd sunk the ships in the past. Nearly five minutes it had taken them, and during that time, the three remaining ships had made their way out to shore.
Ratcatcher had grumbled at that, but he didn't dare to do so too loudly, for fear that the Sea Serpents would hear. If he had it his way, they would use the entirety of their strength for the benefit of his Count Nest. But they had taken the smallest of detours for the sake of their own benefit.
Of those three ships that had made it ashore, Blackwood had managed to intercept one. The two small armies met on the shore, just as the Sea Serpents finished up the last of their killing.
