Abandonment

The snowfall created a thick blanket over the kingdom. The knights welcomed their king after his voyage. The stars and moon shone through the clouds. Krimson Reagon went to his room and then quickly went to bed. He wanted nothing more than to wake up refreshed and ready to take on the world again. He awoke to the unforgiving rays of the sun. He felt as though he hadn't slept for weeks. His body ached and his mind felt fuzzy.

As soon as he got out of bed, he got ready and walked around the cold kingdom. Without Darkness, he got incredibly lonely. He walked over to the snow covered garden. Servants were using fire Energy to melt the snow on the paths. Krimson walked and walked.

In the garden, the trees were bare. Frost covered everything. It seemed as though winter would never end. Icicles hung from the rooftops and from branches. Krimson walked past them. As he passed by one, it shattered and fell. Krimson stopped in his tracks. He looked up and noticed a large icicle hanging from the tree. He bent down and touched the icy tip. He traced it with his finger. It was sharp, hard, and cold. He ran his fingers across its length and then froze. The cold was calming to him.

He sat down on a bench in the garden. He looked around and he noticed that he was alone. No servants or guards or anyone else was present. The only sounds that surrounded him were birds chirping and the wind blowing. He breathed deep and exhaled. This was nice. It felt good to be out here.

Krimson turned towards the palace. He knew that if he continued on the path, he'd reach the main gate. But he wasn't going back to the palace just yet. He stood up and walked away from the garden.

Suddenly his head began pulsing in pain. He fell to his knees and could feel that something was wrong. He closed his eyes and saw Leviathan fighting Lavernius. He saw Lavernius cut off his brother's head. Krimson opened his eyes and was filled with rage. He screamed and unleashed a burst of Energy. The beautiful garden turned into a fiery mess. The trees were covered in flames and glowed a bright orange. Fire engulfed every inch of the garden. Flames reached high up into the sky. Krimson stood in the center of the flames. He waved his hand lightly and put out the fires with the wind pressure he created. Guards quickly rushed over to him and inspected his body for any visible injuries. There was nothing.

"I need to go somewhere. I may or may not return. Do not tell anyone that I am gone. Say that I am just sick." Krimson ordered

"Yes, sir!" the two knights said

Krimson opened a portal and dashed into it. It closed the second he went through. The two guards stood there in silence, looking at each other.

"So, what now?" one asked the other.

"I don't know." he said, removing his helmet, "It's so hot in this garden."

"Yeah, we should head inside and talk to a commander." the knight said

"Or, we tell them that Krimson made us in charge while he takes his leave." he said

"Newman, we can't do that." he said

"Listen to me, Paul. Krimson doesn't have a child or anyone who could take the position. It wouldn't be completely strange if he put us in charge. We are the only ones who guard the palace." Newman said

"If we get found out, we will most likely be killed." Paul said

"We won't. Krimson might not come back, remember." Newman pointed out.

They began to walk inside the palace. They stood in front of the throne and agreed to come up with a story. They spent a few hours making a believable one. They summoned Sephtis Mabuz, but he never showed up. No one in the kingdom has seen him since he arrived from his journey. The two knights made a public announcement about them being the rulers until Krimson returned. They left out the part of Krimson saying he might never return.

A few days passed, and news traveled fast. People knew that Golden Gate had no king. Dangerous people, people who would take the throne forcefully. Newman and Paul ruled quite well. Even if it was short lived.
