Chapter 27

"Hello?" My voice echoes in the darkness.

I've been walking for 4 minutes already in this darkness and there seems to be no sign of light OR life. Then, I spot a glimmer of light through moss hanging from the ceiling above. Running towards it, I leap across the green veil and find a totally unexpected sight.

"La la lalala laaaaa~" A man sings behind a sofa made of wood, wearing nothing more than a short, black t-shirt and black trousers.

He turns around and looks at me.

"Cousin?" He mutters upon getting a glimpse of me.

"Uh...I think you've got the wrong guy." I say.

"I was just testing you, but...who are you really?" He asks.

"I'm Freeze Kill and I've come to get some answers." I speak, confidently.

"Answers, eh? What kind of answers?"

"Well..." I take a list out and start reading it.

"Why are you trying to annihilate everyone on this island?" I start.

"Guess the others told you their plan."

"More like I overheard them." I correct him.

"Frankly speaking, this island should have no people other than the Red Group. But this year, the Hunter Exam people decided to host one of the stages of the Hunter Exam here. In order for peace to be restored, everyone that's not part of the Red Group must be destroyed. I hope you understand." The guy answers.

"I do but it's only for 7 days. After that, the Red Group will be left alone once more."

"Yes but we can't wait for that long."

"Indeed. I have a job as the leader of the Red Group to ensure our safety and invisibility. We can't have any outsiders discovering us." A person speaks and comes into view as a small child, who could be a million years old.

"What if...What if I help you in exchange of helping me with a small favour?" I say.

"A wager huh? What is your condition?" The girl seems intrigued.

"If I help keep the Red Group hidden for the next seven days, would you be able to get a number tag, like this, off the one I'm trying to find?" I propose my idea.

There's a small pause in speech before the girl gives her answer.

"Remember this, if you fail, you'll be staying here on this island as a decoy and work for me." She looks sternly at me.

"That's fine because I know I'll succeed."

"Alright then, I'll leave the safety of the Red Group in your hands. You can go off now." She turns and disappears to where she first appeared.

The other guy I was talking to just smiles which makes me a little bit uncomfortable, so I start heading back the way I came and stand in front of Bigata and the others.

Mission 1: Protect the Red Group.
