My phone, which was in my pocket, suddenly beeped.
I tried to ignore it at first, but it kept beeping, so I moved away from Ace.
I bite my lower lips awkwardly before inhaling as I slowly remove the phone from my pocket. "Are you sure you'll be safe if you check your phone?" Ace asks me a question, and I find myself nodding.
Deep down, I'm not as strong or brave as I appear, and I still can't guarantee that I'll read whatever the text message contains without crying.
I exhale once more, questioning myself about what could possibly go wrong.
I gathered my courage and opened my phone to find a text message from an unknown number, just as Ace and I had predicted.
I'm not interested in reading the text message, but I'm curious. Besides, I had ignored the previous text message, so it isn't a bad idea to read what the person has to say.
