I love you but I can't promise the future (3)

"Don't you think I should come along too? " She asked as she observed his tired expression.

Upon arriving, he immediately changed his clothes and sat up on his bed to rest. His head leaned on the headboard but was supported by big comfort pillows starting from his back.

"I'm afraid no. Both of my parents will come. Besides, it's my condition is uncertain so they need to hold me there first for some time." He said slowly.

"Uncertain means you'll eaither recover or go?" She gathered her words to face the fact.

"Hmmmm..." He hummed with eyes closed. When he opened them, he saw a sorrowful lookin her eyes.

"Love, can you pass me that water please. I need a sip." He requested.

"Ahhhh, this water? Do you want it from my mouth again?" She remembered his request yesterday.

"Hehe, do you want to do it again? Sure, my love. You are welcome." He smiled faintly.

"Is it really okay? Won't it cause more damage than good? " she asked as she held in her hands the glass of water.

"I don't think so love. Come, I'm thirsty already." He licked his dried lips.

She turned her head towards the door to check if it was closed. It was actually locked. She smiled and turned to him. She sipped water from the glass to taste if it was pure water. It was. She filled her mouth to drink but before she swallowed, she made sure to rinse her mouth by gargling first. Charles watched her in amusement.

"You always worry about hygiene sweetheart. I wouldn't mind if you pass many cavities, as long as my heart beats." He managed to say with a smile.

She quickly tossed the rest of the water from the glass into her mouth then moved close to the head board. She held his chin before inching her lips to his. Little by little, she released the water from her mouth and she could hear him swallowing every bit of it. In between each fill, she would check his expression if he was okay. He gave a thumbs up sign to her as she proceeded for another fill.

After she had made him drink the water from her mouth, she couldn't help but linger in that position. She was bent from her waist as she embraced him, her head rested on his broad chest. He hugged her back with one arm as he stroked her long black hair.

Feeling her waist grew tired, she lifted her head and pryed his hands to free herself from his embrace. She pulled a swivel chair beside the bed and sat on it next to him. His eyes were closed and his face looked so calm and peaceful. She reached out her hand and stroked his thick hair as she admired his handsome features.

"Charles, are you asleep?" She asked softly.

"Hmmmmm... not really love. I just want to close my eyes for a bit. " He said as his hands searched for her on top of him.

She caught his hand and held it to her face. "I'm here, I'll stay with you my love. Have some rest." She said as she pressed her right hand over his hand touching her face while her left hand reached out to continue stroking his hair. He fell sound asleep. About half an hour later, there was a gentle knock on the door. She gently freed herself from him and went to open the door.

It was mayor Mrs. Marquez. She probably was worried about her son being alone.

"Hi Aunty, Charles is resting. " She said softly.

"Daryle, you are here. I thought he is alone. I was worried. It's good you can come!" Mrs. Marquez didn't have any objection against their relationship. In fact she was so happy tgat even at this last stage of her son, she can see her son go happy with her.

"Aunty, come in first." She opened the door wider and turned towards the peacefully sleeping handsome man. "We just came from church, had lunch outside then he felt he needed to rest." She narrated.

" It's almost over for him now Daryle. Other smart ladies won't waste their time with a sick person like him." she said as she looked at his son blankly.

"I know Aunty, but the moment I decided to love him, I decided to accept anything about him as well." She said as she followed the gaze of the elderly woman beside her.

"We're going down tonight to the Philippine Hear Center. The doctor said he may stay there until his passing away. We also need to check his potential beneficiaries... you know...for his eyes. He made us promise tgis to him." Mrs. Marquez's tears came down.

"Aunty, can I come along with you? I want to be by his side when he passes." Daryle's voice was firm.

"Don't you need to apply for the Licensure Examination for Teachers first? You will miss it if you dont do it around this time." Mrs. Marquez knew it because her son mentioned this to them.

"Teaching was never my choice Aunty. I might find work and enroll for another course." She said.

"Okay then, you have to ask permission from your parents first. One week set of clothes will do. we will find some laundry service down there." She agreed with her. She knew she should advise her not to bother but she just wanted her youngest son to be happy even at his last hour.
