Little friend

She knocked at the guest room and greeted Kurt with a solemn face. She was having a really bad day and didn't want to bring up the hybrid and start an argument. She had too much for the day.

So, when he pulled her into his arms and enveloped her in a hug, she accepted his warmth. Deep wood and the smell of warrior assaulted her senses.

"Anais..." He muttered, holding her tenderly and breathing her in.

He pulled back slightly to look into her eyes and his features softened.

"What's the matter? You're never this silent." He caressed her face and she melted in his hands.

"Well, I- sniff - mother found out" She struggled to hold onto her tears. She would not cry, she would not cry. She was a big girl. Yet her eyes welled up with tears threatening to spill.

"She found out what?" He searched her eyes. Of course, she did not tell him about her erotic writing career.

"I- a-I, well I" she stuttered, how shameful she was writing erotica and having to confess it in front of her lover.

"You what?" he frowned looking down at her. He was over 6 inches taller than her.

"I wrote about the unspeakable; shameful acts. " She lowered her head in embarrassment.

"You wrote about hauling someone's ashes?"

"Yes, I did" She said with her face growing crimson by the minute and she looked at anything but at him. Clock, mosaic, carpet, window and so on. How did one talk about writing erotica?

She heard Kurt exhale and braced herself for the rejection. For him to shout at her, berate her.

"I've to get my hand on one of the copies than" was what he actually said. She suddenly looked at him, surprised. Was what she hearing the truth?

"You don't mind?" She asked.

"Why would I? A girl got to have her liberty."

Of course, he won't mind. He didn't care about stupid society rules. If he loved a man, he would continue to court him until the man said yes no matter what society said. He had freedom and she was jealous of him for that.

A few days passed by. Anais was sulking in her room. The nasty argument she had with her mother still ringing in her ears. Kurt had saved her some trouble. But she was still upset with him for not informing her of the hybrid.

She was quite shocked that Kurt, a member of the brotherhood would let a hybrid roam free among vampires. The brotherhood was their government and they were sworn to protect the vampire civilisation.

She was furious that Kurt endangered her family, her little brother, her sisters and herself. She realized Kurt might have a motive here for not revealing the information.

She did not for a moment think that Kurt valued her more than his personal gains. He might be a warrior sworn to protect the vampire civilization but he was still a hardened man capable of anything. A dangerous mind worked behind him.

She briefly wondered if she should report the hybrid to the brotherhood but then realized Kurt had no reason to hide the matter from the brotherhood.

The brotherhood was like brothers and they worked together. Besides, the brotherhood didn't like the Garyols and their ways.

They couldn't care less if someone from the high society died unless they were specifically requested. Then they would fulfil their duties.

After all, they did nothing when a plague broke out in the Grayols and killed many people or when they were attacked by werewolves and burned down houses with vampires in them. Outside the Garyols, the brotherhood was more active.

Her acid burn and other injuries had healed long ago. During her long time spent sulking in her chamber, she had made friends with a spider. The little guy was out and about.

She had restricted any maids to enter her chambers when her notes surprisingly started to vanish into thin air. So, she had to clean her own room. That's how she met the little guy.

When she got to the task of handling the cleaning task, she noticed a spider. Even though spiders scared her, she found this one particularly cute. So, she decided to let it live. The next day the spider returned its gratitude by catching 3 mosquitos in its web. They sure were going to make good friends.

The spider decided to move to her armoire on day three. She decided it couldn't harm. So, for the last few days, she watched the spider enter and venture out of her armoire. But she couldn't find it inside her armoire. What kind of witchcraft is this?

The old hag the maid of all work had come to return her the book. She didn't mind it. She quickly accepted the book.

The maid of all work said a lowly maid had stolen her book and she retrieved it for her. How generous. She got an earful. Her frustration had to go somewhere. She wasn't allowed out of her house.

Kurt came to see her. He didn't have to beg her father to let him meet her. He had that much freedom. But she refused this time.

It seemed nothing was going well in her life. She was however allowed once to meet Hattie after much persuasion but the horse buggy had to make sure it went to Hattie's house and not somewhere else. Yes, they could materialise into places but high society people liked to keep up the traditional walking while they could.

Mrs Martinez welcomed her with warm arms. She worked as a seamstress for extra money to meet the short coming of her husband. They weren't high society people like Anais but rather middle class. Though Hattie dressed up like a Princess.

She didn't reside in the house for long as the two best friends liked to chat while walking.

She was an introvert and would rather stay home but suddenly she found herself craving more company than usual. T'was because her family was driving her crazy.

It was good to know she was still a sentinel being. Vampires had a sensitive mind and they were territorial. You don't fuck too much with them or you might trigger their bloodlust. The triggers can be weird.

As she walked hand in hand with Hattie, Hattie kept up the casual convo. But Anais found herself unable to. So, she didn't bother.

Her mind was muddled and she found herself always watching her back. She relied the information to Hattie that her secret was exposed. Hattie was a bit upset to not be in on her life but Anais assured her that she was one of the first people besides Kurt whom Anais made aware of her writing career.

Hattie never one to be upset for longer took her words for it. Hattie had a weird taste in clothing and managed to pick a beat up one I mean hideous one somehow.

Hattie let her know that she had fallen for a werewolf apprentice. Anais didn't say anything but she was not happy to hear it. Appreciate are like doggen who volunteer to help out the werewolves as they couldn't function during wolf moon.

And if they prove capable of the task, they would be turned into werewolves themselves. So, the poor chap was prolly gonna die from his transformation.

She felt bad for Hattie. Yet she decided to return home early because she was still shaken from the incidents. She wagered she would be much safer inside her house.
