Chapter 23 Soon to be wife

Maxwell was furious with himself for lashing out at Melissa, but what she said had pushed him to say all those things. With a deep sigh, he sat on the bed. He knew that if he went to the office in this state, his workers would be terrified. As he was lost in thought, his phone rang. Without checking the caller ID, he picked up. "Did you get those goons?"

"Yes sir, we've managed to track them down. They were sent by Miss Tina Fey to kill your daughter," the voice on the other side, his undercover hitman, replied. "What do we do with them?"

"Kill them all," Maxwell said coldly. "As for Tina, leave her to me. I will deal with her in my way." Maxwell hung up and rose from the bed. He headed to the bathroom to take a cold shower, hoping to cool his anger.

" Shina, I'm really tired. I will go and meet Mellisa first before taking a shower. " Linda said as they were entering the house.

" I will go and take a shower first, " Shina said, " I'm really tired, I will rest before thinking of anything else. "

Zick had been beating her every day, and that morning he had hit her because she had greeted his girlfriend. Now, he had come back drunk and wanted to kill her, leaving her weak.

Mellisa jerked awake, her heart hammering in her chest and her body trembling. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't seem to escape the nightmares of the past two years of Zick's abuse.

" Melissa, are you okay? " Michelle asked when she saw how pale Mellisa looked with tears that were threatening to fall out of her eyes.

Mellisa hugged Michelle tightly without saying anything. It seems like no matter how much she tries to escape from her past, it just keeps on hunting her mercilessly and it will not let her live in peace.

" Hey, guy, " Linda said, walking inside the room to the bed where Mellisa and Michelle were. " I couldn't wait for my class to be over so that I can meet you, Michelle.

Mellisa wiped her tears and pulled away from the hug, she faked a smile and replied to Linda. " Hey Linda, how was your day today?? " Mellisa tried to act normal but Michelle knew that she wasn't okay.

" My day was good, " Linda sat on the chair near the bed with a smile on her face. " I wanted to welcome you home myself, but I had to go to school. That's why I told dad to fly you home with a helicopter. " Linda said. " Did you like my surprise?? " Linda excitedly asked, she loved traveling in a helicopter, that's why she thought Melissa would like it too.

At the mention of the helicopter, Mellisa's eyes lit up and she forgot the nightmare she had just had. "Was that your idea?" Melissa asked excitedly. "Thank you so much for making my wish come true since I was little. I've always wanted to travel by helicopter and today you made that possible for me. "

" Don't mention it, I'm glad I could make you smile. Linda said, her mood changed a bit as she thought about what had happened the previous day. She looked at Melissa and said, "I hope you won't scare me like you did yesterday. If you try to do something like that again, I will do the same."

Melissa felt guilty, realizing that what she had done was wrong and that she had scared a lot of people. Before they could continue the conversation, a maid appeared to inform them that lunch was ready and the master was calling them out. The maid bowed her head and left.

" Come on, let's go. " Linda said.

The three of them headed to the dining room.

Michelle, Mellisa, Linda, Shina, and Maxwell were all sitting around the table for a family lunch. No one knew what to say, and the atmosphere was painfully awkward. The only sound that could be heard was the clinking of forks and knives against their plates as everyone began to eat their food. Linda tried to break the silence by asking questions about everyone's day, but the responses were weak and brief. Linda attempted to start a conversation about going out for dinner, but even that failed to stir up any excitement. After a while, the silence became unbearable and everyone was relieved when the meal was over.

" Hello, guys. '' Tina greeted entering the dining room with a smile on her face, the kind of smile that did not even reach her eyes. " I'm sorry for coming uninvited but I missed everyone here. "

Maxwell raised his head and glared in the direction where Tina was standing, he knew that she wanted to come back to him because of his money, and he also knew that her so-called rich boyfriend dumped her without any penny that's why she hired those goons to gain his attention.

" You are not welcome here please, leave our house right now. " Shina said coldly.

" She is right, please leave, my dad is going to get married soon. Linda said." Your presence here might affect his current relationship. "

Tina's eyes widened when she saw Mellisa seated opposite Maxwell. She was proud of her beauty, but looking at Mellisa right now she felt threatened.
