Izuku Midoriya quickly looked over the listings and his eyes widened nervously. Three of the people listed weren't in his class, and he was against one of them in the first round!

He flipped anxiously through his notebook, wishing they could've had a chance to see Class 1-B's quirks. They had been smart though, creating a strategy for the entire tournament that involved throwing the preliminary round to observe everyone else's quirks. The only thing that leveled the playing field right now is that his opponent doesn't know his quirk either. Izuku hadn't used it the first round, and had been surrounded by ice in the second round. This wasn't comforting though, Izuku wasn't used to going into things like this blind.

To keep his mind off of it, he instead chose to analyze what he could in front of him. The match between Ashido and Kirishima was coming to an end quickly. This made sense to Izuku. After all, Kirishima needed to end the fight quickly to keep his quirk advantage.

Ashido had avoided him for an impressive amount of time, showing off her incredible athletic ability. It was as if Kirishima already knew about this ability and her quirk though, as he hardened his arm and hit the ground near where she was skating on her acid, causing her to stumble as the ground under her shook. She barely had time to react, putting her acid coated hands onto his arm as he grabbed her. Kirishima had yelled out in pain, the acid cutting through his hardened defense. Yet, he showed pure determination as he pushed through it without faltering, succeeding in swinging her out of bounds.

He had helped her up after with a toothy smile, and she had jumped up and down in excitement over how awesome it was that he endured her acid.

Izuku knew otherwise though. You could see it in Kirishima's face in the replay. That acid had negated his quirk for a split second. If she had hit him from a distance and started on the offense, she could have worn him down before he had gotten within arms reach. Then again, Kirishima had gotten second place in the entrance exam. It also seemed like he knew about her weakness already-

"Yeah, he did! They actually went to the same middle school, if you can believe that!" Sero spoke up from behind him. Izuku jumped, causing his pencil to drag along the paper in his notebook.

He grinned sheepishly at Sero as he erased the extra line, "Sorry about that, I didn't realize you were so close!"

Sero grinned at him casually, pushing his pointy bangs out of his eyes. "Nah, no worries! You were right! Kirishima did get 2nd in the entrance exams, and Mina is crazy athletic. But they went to the same middle school, and Mina was pretty popular. So her quirk and athletic abilities were pretty well known. It doesn't surprise me that Kirishima used his knowledge to form a strategy when he saw he was up against her, he's a smart guy. It's Denki I'm worried about!"

"K-kaminari? Why?"

"Well, because he told us that he was with Jiro and Yaoyorozu at the USJ. Yaoyorozu was able to make a sheet to insulate and protect her and Jiro from his quirk." Sero casually leapt over the seat, landing in the one next to Izuku.

"Right! That must be why she used that sheet during the cavalry battle!" Izuku gasped excitedly.

Sero nodded and shot him a grin, before leaning forward and looking at the field. "Yeah, she's worked with him enough times now that she knows how to protect herself from his quirk. I'm not sure how he'll get around that, to be honest with ya."

Izuku also leaned forward, watching intently as the second match started. Yaoyorozu predictably covered herself in a small sheet just before Kaminari's electricity reached her. It seemed he wasn't using his large charges, having guessed she would create protection. He continually let them off charge by charge as he slowly approached her, hoping she would either peak out and get hit by one, or that he could remove her physically from the ring.

"Ahh looks like the man had a strategy after all, eh?" Sero grinned, nudging Izuku.

Izuku shook his head though, leaning forward in anticipation. "You forget, Yaoyorozu has had some time now. Kaminari is so absorbed in his own strategy, he forgot that she would have one too!"

As Kaminari got close to the blanket, he ripped it off and let off his max amount of electricity, thinking he had cornered her. The crowd gasped though as the blanket was ripped off to reveal a rod of silver sticking out of the ground in front of Yaoyorozu. As it conducted all of his electricity, Kaminari's brain fried and he put his thumbs up. Yaoyorozu then simply pushed him out of bounds.

The crowd cheered, and Sero bid Izuku farewell as he walked down the stairs for his match.

Izuku was impressed. Despite Kaminari's incredible quirk, the odds were just unfortunately stacked against him with her knowledge of his quirk and ability to create a way to resist it. Silver was the best conductor of electricity, showing her academic knowledge. She had created the blanket quickly too, showing her handle over her quirk. Izuku wondered... if it was an object she hadn't made before, would it have taken longer to make? Or did it depend on size?

As Kaminari was removed from the field on a stretcher, Sero and Todoroki stepped up next. As Present Mic introduced them, Sero was stretching while Todoroki was still. Izuku considered the match up. Sero's best chance would be to preemptively strike, hopefully restraining Todoroki before he can get his ice off. Though, Todoroki has overwhelming power, so it would only work if Sero was fast enough.

As he predicted, when the match began, Sero immediately shot tape around Todoroki's arms and legs. He detached the tape around Todoroki's legs from his elbow, putting his full focus into swinging the tape around in a circle, taking Todoroki with it. Sero almost had his opponent out of bounds when Todoroki froze the tape around his body, breaking it off.

He quickly erected an ice wall in front of him, blocking Sero's follow up attack. Sero shot his tape to the top of the ice wall, propelling himself up and over the obstacle. As he flew down towards him, Todoroki sent a precise shot of ice to both of Sero's elbows, blocking his use of his quirk. Caught off guard by this, it allowed Todoroki to dodge the last second kick Sero had to use instead.

As Todoroki bent down to avoid the kick, he brought his hand to the ground at the same second Sero landed, ice surrounding the two figures. It crawled up Sero from his legs, immobilizing him.

"Sero is unable to continue, the winner is Todoroki!"

Izuku didn't have time to analyze the fight as the crowd cheered, instead hurrying down the stairs to his own match. As he reached the stage, he clenched his fist in determination. He wasn't going to let All Might down. He had promised he would do his best, and give it his all!

It was time.

The guy across from him also looked ready, his big eyes focused on Izuku.

As Midnight shouted "Begin!", Izuku watched carefully as the student ran towards him. That meant his quirk wasn't long ranged, and Izuku couldn't risk letting him get close! Stretching out his finger, he let off a flick of power.

Shoda looked surprised, but hit his hand on the ground before shooting upwards seconds later. He shot above Izuku's blast, only getting caught by a smaller amount of wind near the top, being blown back to where he started.

As the pain shot up his finger, Izuku's mind whirled. So he had some sort of physical quirk. There was a delay between his hit and power though. Something to do with impact? Izuku didn't have much time to dwell on it as Shoda started towards him again. Izuku let off another blast from his finger, this time aimed slightly higher.

As Shoda jumped up with his quirk, he was caught by more wind this time, almost landing out of bounds. The pain again shot up his finger and Izuku winced. He was the only one getting injured by his quirk! If this fight was drawn out, he would lose for sure!

The student charged again, and Izuku let off another blast with his next finger, but this time Shoda changed tactics. Instead of jumping up as Izuku directed the blast upwards, he dropped flat to the ground, avoiding the worst of the blast. As Izuku winced from his third finger breaking, Shoda saw his opening and charged towards Izuku, landing a hit on his chest before backing away.

Izuku let out his breath at the punch, but otherwise was fine. He ran forward, about to punch, when suddenly out of nowhere he felt a strong impact on his chest where Shoda had punched before.

Time seemed to slow, and Izuku was flying backwards.

He saw the smile slowly creeping onto Shoda's face. He saw the concerned looks of his friends. He saw All Might… All Might… who believed in him, who took a risk on him. Who lended him this power, and depended on him to make it his own… He refused to let him down! Not like this!

As he charged his finger and twisted his body in midair, he suddenly saw different colored eyes all around him, and felt his power explode out of his finger, the eyes blending with it.

Izuku gasped as time went back to normal, and he was blown the opposite way as his quirk went off, now flying towards his opponent. Shoda's eyes widened in alarm as Izuku charged him, fist pulled back, eyes blazing in determination.

"SMASH!"

Izuku aimed his fist to the ground in front of Shoda, blowing him back with a force so strong, even Midnight stumbled off her perch. Shoda flew out of bounds, and Izuku felt the pain shoot up his finger and arm. The stadium was silent, before everyone started cheering. He could hear Present Mic in the background, his friend's yells, and he even heard Ochako as she cheered his name.

As he looked up in the stands, he let a large smile cross his face.

Leaning against the railing, arms crossed casually, was the number one hero… smiling down at him.
