The dim glow of her quarters was the only light Lilith allowed as she sat silently, her red eyes staring blankly at the wall. The weight of her recent failure gnawed at her, a quiet but persistent voice at the back of her mind telling her that something was wrong, deeply wrong. She had let Ethan go. She had hesitated, a hesitation that she couldn't explain.
For a long time, Lilith had believed herself to be beyond such weaknesses, a perfect weapon forged in the fires of the Empire's dark Ether. But now, doubts had begun to creep in, doubts she hated herself for.
A soft chime echoed through the room, interrupting her thoughts. The console on her desk flickered to life, its screen casting a cold blue light across the room. Lilith's heart sank as the familiar symbol of the Empire appeared, followed by the deep, menacing voice she knew all too well.
