[7 days earlier before the previous chapter]
Jessica Jones sat in her shabby office, a cloud of cigarette smoke enveloping her as she leaned back in her worn-out chair. Across from her, Luke Cage, the unbreakable hero, had a concerned expression on his face.
Jessica thought, her mind already preoccupied with the countless other cases she had taken on recently.
Luke leaned forward, his muscular frame filling the room. "Jessica, we need to do something about these missing kids, especially the mutants. Their families are desperate, and the authorities are turning a blind eye. We can't rely on anyone else to solve this."
Jessica took a drag from her cigarette, the smoke curling lazily around her face. She glanced at Luke, his determination evident in his eyes. "Yeah, you're right, Luke. The so-called heroes organizations have been failing these kids. It's time someone stepped up and found out what's really going on."
๐ฐ๐'๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ฐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ ๐, she mused, her mind wandering to the stack of unpaid bills on her desk.
Luke nodded, his jaw clenched. "I've been talking to some of the families. They're scared, Jessica. They don't know where their children are, and they're afraid they won't ever see them again."
Jessica sighed, her shoulders slumping. She had seen the devastation caused by missing children before, and it always hit her hard. The world may see her as a hard-boiled detective, but deep down, she couldn't help but feel for the victims and their families.
With a determined look on her face, Jessica stubbed out her cigarette and stood up. "Alright, Luke. We're on the case. Let's find those missing kids, mutants or not. And whoever's behind this is going to pay."
Luke's lips curled into a grateful smile. "Thank you, Jessica. I knew I could count on you."
Jessica thought wryly as she grabbed her coat and headed toward the door.
Just as Jessica and Luke were preparing to head out, the door creaked open, revealing a distraught woman standing in the doorway. Her eyes were swollen from crying, and her hands trembled with anxiety. Her disheveled appearance mirrored the desperation in her voice.
"Please," she pleaded, her voice quivering, "I need your help. My son, he's gone missing. I don't know what to do."
Jessica motioned for the woman to come inside, her gaze softening with empathy. Luke stepped aside, offering the woman a reassuring smile and a comforting presence.
"Come on in," Jessica said gently, guiding her towards a worn-out sofa in the corner of the office. "Take a seat, and we'll do everything we can to find your son."
The woman nodded gratefully, her tear-stained face reflecting a glimmer of hope. She settled onto the sofa, her hands clutching a crumpled tissue.
Jessica and Luke positioned themselves in front of her, their faces mirroring their determination to help. Jessica leaned forward, her voice calm but attentive. "Tell us everything you can about your son, ma'am. Any details, no matter how small, could be crucial in finding him."
The woman took a deep breath, trying to steady her trembling voice. "His name is Michael. He's sixteen years old, and... he's a mutant. He can manipulate electricity. Lately, he's been hanging out with some questionable people, and I'm afraid they might have something to do with his disappearance."
Luke exchanged a glance with Jessica, concern etched on his face. He reached out a hand and gently placed it on the woman's shoulder, offering a comforting touch.
"We'll do our best to find him," Luke assured her, his voice filled with sincerity. "We'll follow every lead and leave no stone unturned."
Jessica nodded in agreement, her mind already racing with possible angles to explore. She leaned forward, her voice firm but compassionate.
"Can you give us any names or locations your son might have mentioned? Anyone who might be connected to his new group of friends?"
The woman hesitated for a moment, searching her memory. "There was one name he mentioned, a guy named Max. Michael said he had some kind of underground hideout near the docks. I... I don't know much else."
Jessica scribbled down the name, appearance, and location on a notepad, her eyes focused and determined. "That's a good starting point. We'll investigate and see if we can find any leads related to Max or the docks. Is there anything else you can think of?"
The woman shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes once again. "That's all I know. Please, find my son. He's all I have."
Luke squeezed the woman's shoulder gently, offering reassurance. "We won't stop until we bring him back to you, ma'am. You have our word."
As the woman mustered a weak smile, gratitude mixed with her anxiety. She rose from the sofa, her hope rekindled by the determination radiating from the two heroes before her.
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you both for giving me hope."
Jessica and Luke exchanged a nod, their resolve strengthened by the woman's plea. "We'll find him," Jessica promised, her voice unwavering. "We won't let him slip through the cracks. Just hang in there."
With that, the woman left the office, her steps a little lighter, and a glimmer of hope reignited in her eyes. Jessica and Luke stood up, ready to face the daunting task ahead.
"We've got a lead," Jessica said, her voice laced with determination. "Let's head to the docks and see if we can dig up any information on this Max character. Time to find out what he knows about those missing mutant kids."
Luke nodded, his resolve matching Jessica's. "Let's go. We've got work to do."
...
[Docks]
Jessica and Luke made their way to the docks, their footsteps silent and their senses heightened. The air was thick with the scent of saltwater and industry, adding an eerie ambiance to the abandoned warehouses that loomed before them.
As they cautiously approached one of the old warehouses, their keen ears picked up snippets of conversation from a group of men nearby. Staying hidden behind a stack of crates, they listened intently.
"I can't believe we're finally getting rid of those mutant freaks," one man said, his voice laced with disdain. "Once the shipment leaves tonight, the city will be safer."
"Yeah," another voice chimed in, filled with malicious glee. "The AMO's experiments on those mutants are gonna be something to behold. They won't be causing trouble anymore."
"We will be swimming in cash once the shipment reaches Sydney," another one said.
"Shut that trap! Even walls have ears. Keep your mouth shut and check on those freaks. If anyone dies like the last time, I will ship you fuckers in their places," an authoritative voice stopped their conversations.
Jessica's grip tightened on a nearby pipe, her anger simmering beneath the surface. She exchanged a quick glance with Luke, their shared determination evident in their eyes.
"We can't let them get away with this," Luke whispered, his voice low but filled with conviction. "We need to find their main base, put an end to their operations."
Jessica reached for her phone, dialing Matt Murdock's number. She held it to her ear, her impatience growing with each passing ring.
"Come on, Matt," she muttered under her breath. "Pick up."
Finally, Matt's voice greeted her on the other end of the line. "Jessica, what's going on?"
"Matt, we've got a situation," she replied, her voice urgent. "There's an organization called AMO operating at the old docks. They're experimenting on mutants, and they have a shipment leaving tonight for Sydney. We need your help."
Matt's voice took on a serious tone. "I am passing by the docks. I'll be there as soon as I can. Just hold tight, Jessica."
Hanging up the phone, Jessica turned to Luke. "Matt's on his way. We need to make our move before the shipment leaves. We can't waste any more time."
Luke nodded in agreement. "Let's do this, Jessica. Together."
With their resolve steeled, the two heroes stealthily maneuvered through the maze of crates and abandoned machinery, inching closer to the heart of the operation. Their senses were heightened, every sound and shadow scrutinized for any signs of danger.
As they reached the entrance of the main warehouse, Jessica held up a hand, signaling Luke to stop. She peered through a crack in the door, her eyes widening at the sight before her. Rows of cages lined the room, each containing terrified mutants. Equipment for sinister experiments adorned the walls, casting a chilling atmosphere over the scene.
"We need to stop this," Jessica whispered, her voice filled with determination and a touch of sorrow. "No more innocent lives destroyed."
Luke's jaw tightened, his muscles coiled with restrained rage. "Agreed. Let's give them a taste of their own medicine."
Just as they prepared to breach the warehouse, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the corridor. Daredevil had arrived, his red-clad figure moving with grace and purpose.
"I heard everything," Daredevil said, his voice resolute. "Let's put an end to this."
The trio of heroes exchanged a nod, their collective strength, and determination uniting them in their fight against the AMO.
Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Daredevil prepared to confront the AMO.
