NEW LIFE, SAME ME
AFTER 5 YEARS
I now work for a large and well-known Insurance company. And I can say that I have been successful in my life now. I can do everything I want; I can buy everything I need and most of all I can give a good life to my family. And of course, Jaybee is still with me, he is now a supervisor in our work then, I am happy because my BFF's life has also been good.
AND THIS IS WHERE MY ETERNAL LOVE WILL BEGIN.
I GAVE the fare to the driver. I'm coding now, so I got on a public jeepney. I'm the type of person who doesn't like to look at my contemporaries in the jeep. Because I'm not a welcoming person, but I'm okay when you meet me personally.
"Miss, kindly pass my fare." I heard a man say to me. I did not look at him and I just took his payment. I don't care about him. I was close to where I was working, but we were still stuck in traffic. Hays … and I will be late soon too!
"Stop," I said to the driver. I got out of the jeepney! I will just walk instead of being caught in the blink of an eye while waiting for the jeep to move. I found out that there was a collision ahead so other vehicles could not move.
"Snatcher!!! He took my bag! Help! Help me!" I heard a woman shouting in front of me. No one tried to help her and I saw the snatcher running towards me, my blood boiled immediately! He has a big body and why not uses it to get a decent job? I blocked him and, in a flash, I withdrew the bag from him and to my annoyance, I broke one of his fingers. Ops, I'm not a wrestler but I get annoyed when I don't like what people are doing.
"Next time I won't break your finger, but your neck!" he groaned. I saw the woman approaching me and I gave her the bag. "Miss you take care of this person, be careful next time."
"Thank you." she was crying. I just nodded and went straight. Before I could turn around, I saw the police pick up the snatcher who was complaining of pain. That's just good for him.
I can already see the building. It's just across and I can get there too. Before I crossed, I saw an elderly woman. The fear of crossing was in her eyes. I was close to the elders so I approached her, he was carrying a basket full of vegetables.
"Grandma, will you cross to the other side?" I asked politely. Grandma looked at me and as if she was ashamed to smile, she also looked at what I was wearing. Yes, I really get dressed, and I'm always in heels when I leave home because with my height of five inches I really need high heels to look tall.
"Grandma, will you cross over? I'll help you." I was carrying her basket at the same time.
"Oh Hija (means daughter), it's not for you to carry a basket, I'm the one who's ashamed of you. All right, take that down, I'll take it" she said to me.
I smiled at her. "Don't worry Grandma; I don't have a bf so it's okay," I said laughing at her. The shock was on her face. "Why you don't have a boyfriend? You are so beautiful! My granddaughter has two BF's, why you don't have one?"
"Is that so Grandma? Your granddaughter is better than me." I laughed then supported her across while carrying Grandma's basket. The vehicles have stopped. So, Grandma and I crossed safely.
CHRISTOFF INSIDE HIS CAR
I am so bored and irritated because Dad is forcing me to study at our Insurance Company. Since I am the older brother, I am expected to follow in my father's footsteps. I am a full-blooded Korean. I grew up in the Philippines and was born here. This is where our family lives. It is said that it is better to do business here in the Philippines than in Korea, but we go on vacation to SK when our relatives there have important occasions.
I was so shocked earlier when I saw a woman. She just beat a snatcher and just wow. She's cool! She walked as if nothing had happened? I wanted to get out of my car to meet the woman but I couldn't because I was stuck in traffic. I lost sight of her. It didn't take long for my car to move. I turned but I had to stop because of the traffic lights. I was really unlucky and I seemed to be late for my first day at the company.
And then I saw her. And I was even more surprised to see her carrying something? I don't know what kind of thing it is, but it looks not good for her. She crossed with the elderly lady and I saw that she was not ashamed to carry those things, in fact, she was smiling. And there she got my heart. I don't believe in love at first sight, but this woman makes me believe in it.
I saw her talking to the Granny and then she looked around. Is she looking for a jeepney? It turned green light so even though it was against my will I went straight, anyway I looked at the building so there was a chance I could catch up with the girl.
I LOOKED AROUND. I was looking for a taxi that Grandma could take. It would be difficult to ride in the jeepney. Because the bag she was carrying was heavy.
"Grandma, next time don't go shopping alone, bring your child or grandchild with you, okay?"
"They are still at work, but thank you for your help," Granny responded and smiled.
"I'm Jhinkee, Grandma." I introduced myself as a sign of respect.
"Call me Lola Iseng. You're beautiful and a kind child, your parents are lucky." (Lola, means Grandmother/Grandma)
"Oh, thank you, Lola Iseng." I saw a taxi and stopped it.
"Please take Grandma to their place" I gave the driver money. "Keep Grandma safe," I said to the driver and said goodbye to Lola Iseng.
I took a deep breath and looked at my watch. OMG! I'm late! I adjusted my heels and skirt. I quickly ran towards the building. The people I pass by staring at me.
Sorry! I am just in a hurry.
"Good morning!" I greet our Security Guard while panting.
"Oh Miss Jhin, you're late." He grinned.
"Your watch is just too advanced! I still have five minutes." I told him while still catching up on my breath.
He laughed. "You only have three minutes Miss Jhin."
My eyes widened. "Okay, thanks Manong!" (Manong is a called to an elder man with respect) I ran in and hurriedly hit the elevator. So long!
"Hi Miss!" the man next to me greeted me. I looked at him ops... I looked up, his height was extraordinary, I looked like a dwarf even though I was on my heels.
"I'm Christoff and you are?" he extended his right hand to shake hands with me. I don't know him... is he new here? I left for one month because I was on vacation in our province, so I heard that we have a lot of new ones, is he one of them? I ignored his hands. The elevator opened. I went inside and motioned for him to come in because it looked like he was just a stump standing while looking at me.
I FEEL like I was bitten by a snake when I saw the woman next to me, is this really happening? The girl I wanted to meet just now is next to me now? I thought I would never see her again because I had to come in. Dad called me to make sure I will come to the office. I will not let this opportunity pass and take the courage to introduce myself to her.
"Hi Miss!" my chest throbbed louder as she turned her back on me and looked up at me. I am much taller than her. "I'm Christoff and you are?"
I extend my hand to shake hands with her.
She did not accept my hand. She left me and entered the elevator. I was embarrassed as I looked at her. It is the first time someone rejected my hand. Then I saw her signal, she wanted me to get inside? Oh, she's really something.
"I'm sorry for being rude. I'm just really in a hurry. Anyway, I'm Jhinkee I'm an accounting staff here." she said and extended her hand to me. I smiled and accepted it. I am just too happy! Her hand is so soft!
"Nice meeting you, Jhinkee. You have a pretty name and it suits you." I commended.
"Thank you." she withdrew her hand from me. How I wish to hold her hand longer.
"You know what? I like you." I couldn't help but tell her.
I FROWNED when I heard what he said, wow huh? "What did you say?" I asked because maybe I just heard something else. "I said, I like you," he said again. I close my eyes. Men are really different now. I did not answer him and thanks to God the elevator opened. I was in a hurry to go to our office. Before I entered I turned to the elevator, hmm good thing the man was gone. He is so confident! I entered the office.
