My Goalkeeping System

What is worse than being the worst team in the world? For Dave Richards that was a very easy but heartbreaking question to answer, a goalkeeper who performed poorly between the sticks, he was still available as a first-choice goalkeeper because Unique FC didn't have any other goalkeeper. He was slow on his feet, couldn't jump properly and worst of all, he didn't know how to hold the ball properly. The only way that Unique FC was able to survive taking in a massive goal-fest sometimes was because of the extra effort they put in their defence. After a terrible match in which Dave wasn't able to make any saves and also made a lot of mistakes, he was seriously scolded by the managerial staff and almost received a beating from his angry teammates. He got home sad and also angry at all those who told him he looked like his grandfather and would therefore inherit his goalkeeping skills. He discovered a hidden door below his room and when he got down there the only thing he could see was a black box. He found the box to be quite familiar and when he opened it the last thing he saw was a bright white light when the light was gone he could see something in his field of vision. [ Welcome Dave ] [ You have activated the Goalkeeping system ] A female voice read out the messages. This is a story about how an ordinary man who didn't know his place between the sticks went from nothing to pro and beyond that.

Awesome Skill

Dave was silent throughout the drive home and Emma had decided to leave him alone to swim in his thoughts while she focused on the road.

The drive from their city to Supreme stadium wasn't that much of a long drive and it didn't take long before they had arrived home.

Emma opened the door and got out, she was about to shut the door when she noticed that Dave didn't even make a move to get up.

"Babe." She called to snap him out of his daze.

"Oh sorry," Dave said quickly, opening the door and getting out of the car.

"I wonder what got you so lost in your thoughts," Emma said as she locked the car and quickly walked to catch up with him.

"It's nothing," Dave said, his voice felt a little low like someone sad.

"Are you sure?" She asked.

"Yeah," Dave replied, walking ahead of her into the house.

He didn't even look around and walked straight towards the stairs.

<Human emotions, always so confusing>

He was about to go up the stairs when he felt Emma grab his arm.

He quickly turned to see Emma who had a smile on her face, quite a mischievous one.

"You know you can carry me now." She said,

Dave didn't reply immediately as he looked at her from head to toe.

"You want me to carry you?" He said.

"Yeah, you wanted to do it back at the stadium." She said, blinking her eyes.

"Oh, I am really tired now," Dave said with a scrunched-up voice.

"So you won't carry me," Emma said, trying to sound sad.

"Of course, I'll carry you," Dave said as he pulled her closer and lifted her on his body. "Waooooh you are heavy."

"My parents, especially my mother, didn't say that when they carried me every day for about five years," Emma said.

"You were just a baby then," Dave said with a chuckle.

"Doesn't make any difference." She said,

"Yeah, I guess it doesn't make any difference since you're still my baby," Dave said as he looked up to meet her gaze and that was when the both of them locked eyes.

"I never get tired of drowning in those eyes," Dave said with a low voice.

"You could just swim to safety," Emma replied with a voice similar to his.

Dave didn't reply as she leaned closer to him and before you knew it, the two were locked in a passionate kiss and you could tell that Emma was the one controlling everything from above.

"If you keep trying to suck my life out like that then you're planning to fall," Dave said after quickly pulling out from the kiss.

"Sorry."

"I don't think I can do this anymore," Dave said as he slowly made his way to the couch and dropped her there. "I wonder how someone so slender could be so heavy."

Emma didn't reply as she pulled him down on her body first.

"I'm not heavy, you just don't have enough muscles in your arms, you have weak arms." She said,

"No, you're really heavy," Dave replied.

She was about to say something when Dave quickly locked her in a kiss to stop the words from coming out.

The rush of excitement over her body caused her to raise her legs before wrapping them around Dave pressing him against her body.

She loved the way he moved his warm lips against his body and caressed her with his surprisingly soft hands.

She had almost gotten completely emerged in the great feeling when Dave's phone began to ring.

"It's Mateo," Dave said after taking out his phone from his pocket and checking the name of the caller.

Emma rolled her eyes as he got off her body to sit beside her on the couch.

"I wonder why he's calling," Dave said before picking up the call and putting the phone against his ear.

"Hello, Dave." Mateo's voice resounded through the speaker.

Emma could hear what he was saying because Dave always had his calls on loudspeaker.

"Yeah Mateo, what's up?"

"I'm okay, the coach called me a few minutes ago," Mateo said.

"Why?" Dave asked as he knew they had to be a reason.

"He told me that we have a match on Tuesday, he said I should inform you," Mateo said.

"A fixture this Tuesday?" Dave said. "Against which team?"

"Spree United," Mateo replied. "Coach said we have to prepare well for the match because winning against Spree will take us right past them to tenth place and have them drop back to eleventh place but losing or drawing, I don't even want to think about it."

"Ok," Dave said.

"We have a training session on Sunday in the afternoon," Mateo said.

"I know, I'll be there," Dave said.

"Ok, is my dumb head sis there?"

Emma had quickly turned to Dave with a sharp look as soon as she had heard that.

"You're the dumb head Mateo," Emma said.

"Oh, you didn't tell me she was close to you Dave," Mateo said.

"Well, you could have asked," Dave said, turning to Emma with a smile.

"How're you doing sis?" Mateo asked through the phone.

"I'm okay, you?"

"Same except that I'm lying in my room all by myself, lonely."

"And who cares," Emma said, turning away from Dave. "If you want someone to be lying in your room with you then get a girlfriend."

"I will sis and trust me she's going to be prettier than you," Mateo said.

"That's what you keep saying," Emma said, rolling her eyes.

"Uhmm I have to go now, bye Dave, see you tomorrow," Mateo said before ending the call.

As soon as the call had ended and Dave dropped his phone on the table, Emma stood up from the couch.

"Where are you going?" Dave asked with a puzzled look on his face.

"Upstairs." She said heading towards the stairs. "Are you coming?" She turned to him to ask.

"Why not?" Dave said quickly getting off the couch and following her up the stairs.

_____ ____

Dave got up and turned to see Emma breathing peacefully beside him as they both had their bodies covered with white sheets.

He slowly moved her hair to the side to clearly see her face and after looking at her for a while, he pecked her on the cheek before getting up from the bed.

He slid into one of his sports outfits and quickly made his way down the stairs and to the fridge where he grabbed a two liter bottled water and consumed its contents on the spot.

After that, he left the house to complete his two kilometers run.

As a goalkeeper he wasn't that used to running expect for the laps he had to join his teammates in running around the pitch, but he was able to get to the park and after getting there, he slowly sat down on the grass.

[ Daily quest completed ]

[ Run two kilometers]

[ +10 exp received ]

[ 45/200 exp ]

"That's still a lot of exp required," Dave said as he looked up at the sky which wasn't that bright yet as the sun was yet to completely rise.

<Yes but if you do the harder quests you'll level up faster>

"Yeah, the harder quests that the system just gives to me in any situation it deems fit of turning into a quest."

<Yes>

[ Goalkeeping skills ]

[ Double jump ]

[ Level: 01 ]

"How does this double jump even work?" Dave asked.

<What does it sound like it does?>

"I mean how do you activate it?"

<Through your system, each skill you think of can be activated with your mind> Catherine explained.

"Ok," Dave said as he slowly got up and did what Catherine had told him.

[ Double jump activated ]

[ Skill will last for 60 seconds ]

[ Cooldown time: 30 minutes ]

"Sixty seconds?" Dave thought as he quickly jumped up to test the skill out.

He jumped as high as he could and was about to fall when he felt an invisible force thrust him higher, it wasn't that much but the experience was exhilarating for Dave.

"This skill is awesome." He said with a wide smile on his face. "I wonder what the other skills will be able to do."
