Many of the candidates widened their eyes in disbelief when they heard that.
Only the gods knew what they had experienced. They had arrived there with troubled hearts; they did not know if they could pass the test. Many of them were relieved when they heard Watson's rules. They thought they could pass the test, and it had slapped them right on their faces. Then, just as they were about to give up, Watson said that they had passed.
