Chapter 3
The next day, Misty woke up, and the sunshine shone but its warmth can't go through the cold winter air. Misty gets down from her bed and looks through the window, the snow stopped and now the yard is covered with a thick coat of snow. Misty grabbed her winter cloak and went downstairs to eat breakfast, her father is now reading a newspaper at the dining table while drinking some coffee. Misty mother comes with some bread, fresh from the oven, "Here, Misty, your father is going hunting today. So don't be naughty, okay?" Myla said, Misty nodded while chewing her bread.
"The king believes that we'll catch that Skiter today," Magnius said excitingly, "But Magnius, how will you catch that creature? That creature is already gone years ago" Misty's mother said, there's a hint of worry in her voice. "It's okay honey, that creature is not a human," her father said "After all, Skiters we're known for bad luck" Magnius continued. Now this is news to Misty, she looks up at her father, "bad luck?" she asks with a confused look, "yes, bad luck" her father answered, "No one knows what it means, but some people believe its a curse" her father continued.
Now that her father mentioned it, nobody knows about the Skiters, how can they protect the kingdom in the past? Why do they betray the kingdom? it's so confusing. Misty shook her head, pushing away the thoughts in her head. She finished her breakfast and went outside, the cold winter breeze brushing through her. She went to the yard, wanting to play with the snow, until she saw something sitting on the snow. It's the Skiter, but instead of red eyes, this Skiters weirdly has two blue eyes. Misty is not scared anymore, she just stands there in front of the Skiter, she's annoyed, why is this Skiter keep on following her?
"What do you want now?" Misty asked the cat in front of her, obviously annoyed, but the Skiter didn't move and just sit a few distances away from Misty. "hey! Answer me, idiot!! I know you can talk!" Misty said, angrily, but the Skiter in front of her is not moving at all or even talking. Misty sighed and decided to walk closer to it, but when she took a step, she almost slip and fall, but she manage to keep her balance.
She then took another step again but then the snow from her house roof, fall to the ground and almost hit her, but thankfully it didn't. Misty froze in her spot, looking at the pile of snow beside her, she can't believe she almost died. The Skiter in front of her tilted its head, looking confused, Misty turn her gaze at the Skiters, but the Skiter is already gone without a trace. Misty sighed when suddenly a snowball flew past her face, Misty turn around and saw Kyan with his black cloak and hood that Misty saw last night.
"Aww, I miss it," Kyan said, looking disappointed. He's making another snowball, not knowing another snowball flying in his direction, he looks up and the snowball hit him in the face, and the culprit is just laughing on the ground, and it's Misty. "Take that!" she said, Kyan brush off the snow off his face and laugh too.
The cold winter wind then blows through the two pair, making Misty shivers, and Kyan? He look like nothing happens, but Misty didn't realize it. Misty the look at Kyan and said "Hey, do you want to come over to my house? My mom is making hot cocoa," she offered. Kyan look excited when he hear it, "yes please!" he said with a smile. Misty open the gate and let him into her house.
Misty's house is warm so warm, Misty went to her mother, "Mother, I bring a friend!" she said, "can you please make two hot cocoa for us?" she continued, "Of course, dear" her mother said, as she starts making some hot cocoa. Kyan is now looking around Misty's house, looks like he like her house, it is cozy and warm. Until Kyan looks at Misty's father's artifact collection, "What is this?" he asked Misty, "Oh! It's my father's artifact collection" Misty answered. Her father then shows up and went over to Kyan, "Hey there boy! I see that you're interested in things like this" Magnius said with joy, "ummm yes" Kyan said with a smile, but Misty couldn't help noticing that he was uncomfortable with all of this, her father then explained everything about the artifacts on the shelf, and now started talking about the first unicorn horn he got. Misty can see that Kyan is not interested in things like this and he looks more like... scared of it but looks like he doesn't want to hurt her father's feelings.
A few minutes later, Misty's mother is back with the hot cocoa and gives it to Kyan and Misty. The pair then take a sip of their cocoa, they drink it until the last drop. Then Kyan whispered to Misty something that only both of them can hear, "Misty, can we leave? I feel a little uncomfortable here", Misty answered with a nod, then they left the house.
The pair took a walk outside, there was only an awkward silence for a few minutes until Kyan started the conversation, "I never knew your father is a hunter and the leader of the royal hunter team" he said to Misty, "yeah, he likes to collect weird things from his adventure" Misty answered. They then started to have a little conversation about the weird thing Misty's father collect.
Until a boy who has a big body bumped into Kyan and just walked away like it was nothing, making Kyan almost fall to the ground. Misty won't just let this pass, they don't even say sorry to Kyan, "Hey-!" Misty was about to snap at that boy, but Kyan stopped her before she can say anything, "It's fine" he said calmly, his voice is soft and calm, and there was no hint of anger or sadness in his voice.
"Are you sure?" she asked, feeling a little worried, "yes, I'm fine" said Kyan as he smiles at her, making Misty feel a little confused, just how much patience does this person have? She looks at the person who bumped into Kyan that starts to walk away, she then looks back at Kyan and sigh. This boy is a mystery, there are so many things she wants to know about him, but she doesn't want him to see her as a freak. They continued their walk for a few minutes there was only silence, they don't talk much. Misty suddenly felt cold, as if she was alone in a snowstorm.
Kyan realizes this and opens his cloak, leaving a thin layer of a white shirt, and a pair of pants, some of the snowflakes start to get stuck in his hair, making it looks like a dark starry sky. He then covered Misty with his black cloak, and Misty suddenly felt warm, it was weird when she suddenly felt cold, she already wear her white winter cloak, but why does Kyan's thin black cloak feel so warm? She can smell Kyan's scent from his black cloak, it smells good and very relaxing. "thank you" she said to Kyan with a cheerful smile, Kyan smiles back at her and answered "Your welcome," as he look at Misty with a very happy face. When Misty first meets him, she thought that he's a very rude and cold person, but when she starts to know him and gets close to him, she realizes that he's a kind, sweet, and understanding person.
"your not cold?" she asked, Kyan is only wearing a white shirt and pants. Kyan just smile at her, "Nah, I'm fine" he said, as if ita a normal thing and pat her head to assure her. She didn't mind the fact that he was patting her head, even tho she knows that it was not polite, but she ignore it anyway, but she can't ignore the fact that his hand is cold, it feels like is touching her hair, she can't feel his body warmth, she can only feel a cold and icy hand touching (or patting) her head.
and then as if he got struck by lightning, Kyan's eyes widened for a split second, Misty look at him, and for a split second, she can see Kyan's eyes turn into slits, but then his eyes turn back to normal, is she start to imagining things? When she was still processing what did she just saw, Kyan suddenly says "Sorry Misty, I got to go! There's... something I need to do," he said quickly to Misty, and without waiting for an answer, he runs away and leaves Misty immediately.
Misty froze on the spot, why is he suddenly like that? Is there a problem? There were so many questions in her head, as she saw Kyan start getting smaller and smaller and then disappear in the distance. Something in her tells her to follow him, but she also doesn't know if she should follow him or not, should she follow him?
