After Xiaotian washed the rabbits by the stream, he roasted them on the streamside. After both were well done, he rinsed off all the remaining ash with stream water, leaving no trace behind. As an experienced hunter, Xiaotian knew that most game feared fire and the hunters themselves, but the particularly fierce jackals and leopards might trace such cues to find them, possibly surprising them in their sleep. He even worried that they might fail to react quickly enough, even with Xiaohei on guard. Their biggest fear was being attacked by a pack of animals. Concerned, Xiaotian bear-trapped the area. After finishing preparations, Xiaotian took the roasted rabbit and headed into the cave to eat dinner with Liuliu and Xiaohei.
Liuliu and Xiaotian each shared one rabbit, while Xiaohei ate an entire rabbit on its own, leaving Liuliu amazed at how much it could eat. Liuliu said jokingly to Xiaohei that since it ate a lot, it should work a lot too like standing guard at night.
