Let's Give them a story

Jake's pov

To say that my morning had started on a rough note was an understatement. What was wrong with journalists? Why could they just let people be with their private lives? It didn't matter who I came to the party with or kissed or left with. What mattered was that Sabrina's life was not under scrutiny especially after what she had been through. They could rubbish my name in all the articles, media outlets, and the dailies they wanted but not Sabrina, they had gone too far. Especially, when they insinuated that she might kill me, she had me charmed and that she killed my father. They should move on.

I knew it was a mistake to take Brenda as a date, look where this got me. Here is a woman who could do anything for a public spectacle, just a minute of fame and I was going to be a victim to her attention-seeking.

My support was from Sabrina who was unfazed by the news. She sat calmly feeding Jay with her face glistening. When she saw the worry written on my face, she rose up and sat next to me. While stroking my back she said, "don't worry about the news, they are not important. You do not need to justify yourself to anyone. Just ignore them If the worst comes to worst, give them a story to shut them."

I had planned to take Sabrina and jay for a ride around time, but with the current state of events, with the press waiting outside the apartment I opted for chilling at her apartment. We talked about many things, us, what we had learned throughout this year, what we wanted to achieve in the nearby future and I realized that Sabrina's ideas were the intelligent ones while mine were the basic ones like, marrying the woman after my own heart and raising a family together with her. I think Sabrina liked my honesty but she did not show any emotions when I mentioned my future plans and that was quite unsettling.

We were cuddled up on the couch when Marcus texted that I tune in to channel ten. When I did, I could not believe the lies that Brenda had concocted. Apparently, I and she had dated for ages, and that Sabrina had bewitched me to leave her. She had the guts to say that she was pregnant for me. she was a fully-fledged psycho. Sabrina got mad and rose up to sit far away from me. When I approached her she asked, "where exactly did you meet this bimbo?" I was baffled by her question but I knew if I didn't tell the truth, my relationship with her was going to end even before it started. "I have never met her before, I used my date app to meet her. I have never seen that woman all my life till yesterday at the launch. She is trying to discredit me because I rejected her advances…" I was literally begging right now when Sabrina hugged me and whispered in my ear, "I know baby, they want a story, let's give them one to talk about."

First I called Robert to confirm if he had managed to pull down the story but he said that they were going to do so if I agreed to an interview with them. Sabrina had come with a plan to go on Live TV for an interview, with proof that I hired Brenda just as a date as the best way to beat a liar is by saying the truth. The interview was scheduled for the following day at 7 pm. Sabrina was right by my side as we entered the studio. With positions taken, mics open, the interview began, the host whose name was Candice began, "Mr. Jake it's so good to have you here. I know you are here in response to your date for the Mr. K hotel launch, Brenda's remarks in our interview. Now please give us your truth."

"It is true that Brenda was my date for the launch but there are certain details that I would like to put on record for starters. I hired Brenda from my date app to be my date. It was just a business transaction. I have never met Brenda before till the other day at the launch and I have never dated her. So this idea that I dated her is just cheap publicity." I replied.

"wow! So Ms. Shagari was just a business transaction? Is it true that you are dating Ms. Sabrina Zawadi, the same woman who killed your father in cold blood?"

"Yes, it was just business. let it be on record that Ms., Sabrina is the love of my life and yes we are dating. The courts ruled her innocent, it was self-defense against a man who violated her and her very existence. If the world can't let this ordeal go and learn to protect the victims of sexual abuse, then none of us deserves to live in this world. What happens to a person should not define them and so shouldn't Sabrina." I replied.

"So are there plans for a wedding on the horizon?"

"Definitely. A woman like Sabrina deserves to be loved in all the right ways."

"There you have it, folks. Mr. Jake is not dating Brenda but is dating the love of his life, Sabrina Zawadi. Thanks, Jake for your time."

I left the studio confidently. When I arrived at the reception, Sabrina hugged me joyously, "you put that woman in her place. So am the love of your life huh?" she asked cheekily.

I was about to reply when Brenda stormed the studio pointing her index finger at me, "You will pay for this humiliation Jake."

Sabrina stood before me and in front of her with arms akimbo as if protecting me from the vicious attack from Brenda, "get a life! If I see you an inch close to my man or even hear you slandering or smearing your pathetic lies on his name or mine, I will teach you a lesson your mother never taught you."

Brenda stood shocked and in fear and stomped off furious!
