A wedding and a proposal

Jake's pov

As Marcus' best man, I was ready to be his best friend, wingman, and brother today more than any other day. My bro was getting hitched and I couldn't be happier. I had plans of my own too. I was going to propose to Sabrina today and hopefully, she would say yes. I had planned this proposal for so long and with Marcus' blessing and permission, I could not wait any longer. Today was the day. Things had been exceptionally great and happy especially after clearing the Brenda-news fiasco.

Marcus and I were already dressed and ready for this big day. I drove us to the venue which was The Lake Naivasha Resort just close to the lake, the same place, Marcus proposed to Zoe. The venue had been decorated to perfection with the sun illuminating the white chairs arranged on both sides of the aisle. Marcus and I took our positions at the end of the aisle at the front. We sat quietly as we for the guests to trickle in one by one. An hour later, the MC announced the arrival of the bride. Marcus and I stood facing the direction of the bride, Zoë in the company of her parents and my baby, Sabbie behind them. I could not see her well as she was behind Zoë but my heart raced in anticipation to see her. I hadn't seen her for a day and it felt like forever.

As they approached the podium and Marcus went to collect his bride, I finally got to see my love. There she was beautiful as ever and for a minute there I wanted to rush to her side and be with her but for the sake of Marcus I was going to restrain myself. When Marcus had Zoë in his hand I took Sabrina's hand as we walked to the podium behind the man and woman of the day, I whispered in Sabrina's ear, "do you know how beautiful you are today? I confused you for the bride. I missed you." She smiled and replied, "for a minute there, I confused you for the groom. As for missing me, we talked yesternight over the phone." I replied as we continued walking, "the only woman am being a groom for is you and it doesn't matter if we talked a minute ago over the phone, I miss you all the time I can't see you." She was about to speak when the government marriage licensor spoke, "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to witness this man, Marcus, and this woman, Zoe be wedded legally in front of God and all these witnesses."

Vows were exchanged, rings worn, and the beginning of a beautiful marriage sealed with a kiss. We posed for photos but, mostly, Marcus and Zoë did. We later proceeded to the reception where we danced, ate, speeches were made until it was my turn to make the best man's speech. I rose to my feet and touched my trouser pocket to check if the ring was present and walked to the center of the dance floor. I took the microphone and began, "ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the bride and groom we want to thank you for honoring their invitation and being here with us today to celebrate love. Marcus has been my best friend from childhood and even when I did not deserve to be with any friend. Zoe has been my best friend and I am a fortunate man to see my two best friends get married. There are many stories I could tell about our friendship but for today, congrats big man and Zoë. You have set a good example for me and it's only prudent that I follow closely in your footsteps, everyone allow me to call to the dance floor, the best maid, Sabrina so that she can say a word, a round of applause."

When she reached where I was standing, I said, "Sabrina Zawadi, I have something to ask you." Just then, a helicopter buzzed up the sky and she and everyone else looked up and there, a red banner written in black and bold, 'will you marry me, Sabrina?' coming from the helicopter. When she saw the inscription, she got teary and looked down, and there I was on one knee with the ring in my hand and she nodded and said yes. I did not hesitate, I put the ring on her fourth left finger before she could change her mind and rose on my feet to hug her and kiss her blushing cheek as balloons and confetti fell on us from the helicopter until it finally flew away as everyone clapped and awed at us.

Marcus and Zoë came to congratulate us. We were dancing celebrating the wedding and proposal when we heard a shrill scream from Claire, Jay's sitter. Sabbie and I rushed to her side to inquire what was wrong. My heart shattered when she said, "It's Jay. I can't find him anywhere and no one has seen him. I think Jay has been kidnapped." As I was trying to comprehend what she had just said, Sabrina collapsed in my arms.
