CHAPTER 5: INVALID DREAMS.
Paul was busy preparing himself he didn't want to miss this graduation.This was the only opportunity to tell her the truth and make everything clear. He didn't know how he will approach her but he had a plan waiting to be executed.
Even if he loved her more than his wife, he didn't want to be got in a love triangle. He wanted to have a loving family, a full family. He knew that with time things will be okay between him and Ivana he just needed to be patient as the saying goes patient pays.
He had invited Mike to accompany him to Slyvia's graduation. Mike being Mike refused to go claiming that he was busy. The exact reason was that Paul has to solve that puzzle alone he didn't want to be a third wheel or rather a bad adviser. He knew Paul can end that relationship before he runs out of ideas to do so. He can't back out of the marriage because it was 'important' to his mother so he just wanted to keep his mother happy. He will trade his happiness for anything for Mrs Wechuli.
It was on Wednesday afternoon and only one day is remaining for the big day for her. Slyvia was already in school. She come to clear with the school and make the necessary arrangements for graduation she already booked the hotel, ordered the cake the only thing remaining was the graduation gown.
As she walked in and out of university premises, she foreshadowed how she gonna miss these places. A place that becomes a second home to her. How times fly just recently it was August 2017 when she joined the university. The comrades called them freshers. She had sat for KCSE- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and passed well. She was selected to join her dream university by the government. Moi University was a university of her choice, how she celebrated that day, she walked like a peacock in the community and some of the girls who didn't qualify were envious of her.
Her father never approved that she never wanted her only daughter to study in the country she wanted her to study abroad. To study law was the course she hated with a passion. She was not a book warmer so she knew very well that she will fail terribly, that's why she begged her father to let her study Human Resource management. Slyvia knew very well that she wanted to go abroad but she didn't want to leave her high school boyfriend in the country. She selected the similar university her boyfriend selected.
When she got admitted to the university Slyvia called Paul so that they can meet and familiarize themselves with the place but she was shocked when Paul told her that she won't be able to continue with his studies. Slyvia offered to pay for his school fees if it was all about financial constraints, but now Paul's mother wanted his son to take over the business as soon as he was done with form four. She was heartbroken and she never wanted to talk to him or see him ever again. She was sulking over an issue her boyfriend can't control.
That day was the day she lost her virginity to a random guy. It was freshers night, a night that the university official welcome the new students or rather the first years on the campus through entertainment. Slyvia was so happy to go and waste herself since she had now freedom she ever wanted. She danced and bought drinks because she had all the money she wanted. Only to wake up naked the next day in the men's hostel and she realized that something happened. Someone had destroyed her flower the flower she promised to herself that she will give it to Paul. From that night Slyvia becomes sexually active. She never cared who she sleeps with, because it already happened.
In the third year Paul visited her and decided to renew their relationship again. She was so happy she never cared about the distance she will ensure as long as they remain faithful to each other. A condition Paul agreed to without struggle. She decided to be a good girl and focus on her studies. Now she is here waiting for her graduation. She can't wait for that day because her boyfriend has promised to come and celebrate her success no their success together. She was so grateful to Paul because if not for him to renew their relationship, she doesn't know what could have happened.
Slyvia went for a photoshoot with friends after picking up their gowns. She send the pictures directly to Paul's WhatsApp, updated others on her WhatsApp status, Instagram pages, all her social media handles were full of her pictures.
She can't wait for the D-day to take pictures with Paul. A perfect picture that will be her profile pic and another to be placed in the frame. 'The one that will be on our bed stand in their bedroom' she thought.
