CHAPTER 261:TRESSPASING
When Paul's flight touched down in Masinde Muliro Airport. It was already in the evening and it was drizzling. Paul wanted to buy some flowers for Ivana but at that time he wouldn't have gotten fresh flowers.
He haven't told anyone that he was jetting back in the country. Even Mrs. Wechuli had no idea that her son was coming back to the country on that day. Since no one was informed of his arrival, there was no one to pick him up from the airport.
He decided to board a taxi and told the taxi driver his end. He first checked in a hotel where he will be spending a night, he didn'twants to go home before meeting Ivana. So he kept his suitcase, took a shower and changed his clothes, applied some perfume and left for the mansion. The taxi that picked him up from the airport was still waiting for him, money was not a problem for him.
His heartbeat changed as the taxi approached his destination. The taxi pulled over at the address of the mansion Paul told him. He alighted and paid for the taxi fare as he walked to the gate with his hands jiggling. He was happy when he was on the flight but now he was nervous and anxious about meeting Ivana. He gained his courage and knocked on the gate.
The gateman had already locked the gate and he knew that that was past time for anyone to be allowed in the mansion. The gateman knows that if the person who was coming into the mansion is family he/they have the idea of how to open the gate automatically.
So he ignored that knock for the first time following the instructions from his boss Ivana. Paul wanted to calm Ivana to inform her that she should send someone to open up the gate but he remembered that he wanted to surprise her.
So he knocked again persistently until the gateman got scared and opened up the gate, thinking that maybe Ivana or rather Mish was the one knocking on the door.
"What took you so long to open up the gate, do you want to lose your job?" Paul asked the gateman immediately he opened the gate.
"I am sorry sir but I was following instructions. May I know who you want to see sir," the gateman said with his head bowed.
"Hey! hey! get out of my way," Paul squealed as he pushed the gateman aside and walked majestically towards the mansion entrance.
Fortunately for him, the mansion entrance was still opened, he tiptoed slowly inside and entered the sitting room but it was empty and neatly arranged. His heartbeat continued beating faster as he looked at the neatly arranged seats. It showed that no one have sat on it the entire day.
He figured out that maybe Ivana was in her room, there was some noise emanating from the kitchen but he didn't care about asking Ivana's whereabouts. He was still standing by his decision of wanting to surprise Ivana.
So he climbed the stairs slowly and walked to Ivana's Bedroom. He knew the room that Ivana used to stay in before they got married. When he arrived at the door, its environment showed that there was no one inside. The lights were not on, so he tried opening the door but it was locked.
His mind started to be in a whirlpool because he remembered his mother told him that Ivana was still staying in the mansion. He was tempted to call her but he knew that maybe she won't pick up his calls.
He decided to ask the workers that were in the kitchen before he calls her. Calling her was the last option.
Paul didn't want to startle those that were in the kitchen, he called from the sitting room.
"Hello is anyone here?" He called out.
Rhoda and the girls were preparing supper, they heard him ask so they caught scared as they looked at each other. That was a strange make voice that they have never heard. As the head of the workers in the house, Rhoda decides to go and check.
"Hello, sir are you looking for someone?" She said scared with the fact that she didn't discern the person that was standing in front of her.
"Hello, eeh mmm...I am sorry for disturbing you but I am looking for your boss, isn't she here yet?" He asked.
"Our boss?
"Yes, isn't this Ivana's mansion?" Paul asked checking around.
"Yes this is it, she is not here sir," she replied.
"Wh...what? Where does she leave? Or she sells this mansion to someone else?
"No, she hasn't sold it but May Ivana doesn't live here, it has been years now," Rhoda said.
"Where did she go? Where does she live? What happened to her?" Paul didn't contain the numerous questions in his head. He asked anxiously as she was so desperate to know where Ivana was.
"It's confidential sir I can't tell you, I cannot disclose any information about her. First thing you are a stranger to me second thing ma'am Ivana warned us not to reveal any information about her. I am sorry sir but if you have her contact number kindly call her and ask," Rhoda said as she turned to walk away.
"How much do you need to tell me where Ivana is?" Paul asked as he pushed out his wallet ready to give her any amount of money she wants.
"Huh? I don't suppose you have good intentions, why are you desperately searching for her?" Rhoda asked surprised.
"You won't understand right now just tell me and I will pay you any amount you want," Paul said desperately.
"It will be better if you leave right now sir before I call the security for trespassing!" Rhoda threatened.
Paul scoffed as he took one step in front, go ahead and call the security. This is my wife's house so I don't care if you will calm the security because I am not trespassing," Paul said.
