"My name is Ryan, and I'm a demon," the figure introduced.
Max was speechless upon hearing the figure introduce himself as a demon. He gazed at the figure, but there was no sign of a demonic presence about him. He even noticed that they were of the same height, although the demon appeared more athletic than Max.
Max had heard about demons roaming the earth by possessing human bodies, but he had never seen or heard of a physical demon before.
"So, what do you want?" Max asked after staying silent for a few seconds. He didn't want the demon to knock him out again, so he was cautious with his words and tone.
"I don't know, but for some reason, the book chose you to wield it. And wherever the book goes, I follow."
"Book? Do you mean that creepy old system book that won't open?" He asked, pointing to the direction where the book had fallen.
Ryan stretched out his hand, and the book floated right into his grasp. "Yes, I mean this book."
"How did you do that? Does that mean your DNA is being registered to the book? If that's the case, you must be from a very wealthy family," Max assumed.
He stood on his feet and walked gradually back to his bed. As long as Max didn't scream, he was free to do whatever he wanted.
Ryan responded to Max's questions one after the other, explaining that he had a telekinesis ability and that his DNA wasn't registered to the book. As for his family, he didn't want to talk about it.
When Max heard that Ryan had a telekinesis ability, his interest in the conversation was piqued. He wondered what rank of user Ryan was.
Ryan gazed at the book, and a hologram screen with blue text appeared at the top of it. Max hadn't seen a system book in display before so he was curious to know what the hologram screen meant.
< Name: Max Hernandez >
< Race: Human >
< AR: D user >
< Ability: None >
< Age: 17 >
AR Stands for Ability Rank.
[Ryan! Would you like to open another screen?] the system asked.
"Please don't, his life is too boring," Ryan replied to the system.
Max grinned and held the book again, admiring it as he turned it around to observe it from all angles. It really was a system book, just as he had thought.
"Doesn't this system book open?" Max asked.
"I'm not the wielder, so I can't open it, even though I have limited access to it," Ryan answered.
Max was confused. If Ryan wasn't the wielder of the book, then who was? 'Does that mean Ryan stole it from someone else?' he wondered.
"If you're not the wielder, then who is?" Max inquired.
Ryan sighed before responding in annoyance. "Isn't it obvious enough? The book found you, and you're the only person who can see me."
Max's eyes widened in shock, wondering what Ryan meant by saying he was the only one who could see him.
Max was forced to ask in curiosity, "Does that mean I've been speaking to a ghost?"
"I'm not a ghost. I just happen to be an invisible demon. But didn't you get the point I was trying to make?" Ryan retorted. "You can be the wielder of the book, Max," he vented.
As soon as Max heard that, he chuckled.
"This is a Supernatural System book. You have to follow the commands of the book, and in return, it will grant you rewards. Each page has tasks and rewards assigned to it. This book has the potential to elevate you to a high rank ability user quickly.
Max remained silent for a long while, listening to Ryan explain how the book operates. When he could no longer suppress his desire to become a wielder, he inquired, "So, how do I become the wielder of the book?"
Ryan grinned and continued, explaining that for Max to become a wielder, they would have to be bonded for life. And if Max agreed to that, the book would become his, and he would have full control over it. In other words, Max's DNA would be registered to the book.
"Bond for life? Do you plan on possessing me for life?" Max retorted, ignoring all the benefits that he was going to gain.
"I'm not the type of demon who possesses someone's body or mind. I'm a bounty demon."
"And what is a bounty demon?" Max questioned.
"A kind of demon that carries out the hardest of tasks. Unfortunately, I've lost my physical touch on things of this realm. I can only touch you because the book chose you," Ryan explained.
No matter how Ryan tried to explain the situation, Max still thought that Ryan wanted to take over his life.
"Come on, accept the DEAL!" Ryan pressed further.
Max had already made up his mind not to accept the offer because of the condition of bonding with Ryan, but he feared that disclosing his decision to Ryan might make Ryan knock him out again. So the prudent Max decided to find a way to get rid of him in the best possible way.
"Can I ask you some series of questions and you promise to be sincere?" Max asked, and Ryan gave him a go ahead nod.
Exhaling heavily, Max began. "How did you get into my room?
"You summoned me out from the book"
"So, you're like a genie, but from a book?"
"From book? Yes. But definitely not a genie."
"How did I summon you?"
"You uttered the write-ups on the book."
"And how do I dismiss you?"
"You utter the write-ups agai..." Ryan paused upon suspecting what Max might be up to, but he had already given Max the information he needed.
Before Ryan could say anything, Max voiced the write-ups out.
"Thousand Pages Of Death!" And immediately, Ryan smoked right back into the book.
Max abruptly grabbed the book and tossed it under his bed.
[The Next Day Morning]
Max finished preparing for school and went downstairs. He kissed his mom on the cheek and headed out. Immediately he stepped outside the house, the person he saw on the walkway was his friend, Finn.
