Chapter 11

The Halloween event will be held tomorrow. All of us are currently at the mall to buy costumes for tomorrow.

As far as I can see, there are many Halloween decorations in the mall. As a villager, I was quite corny seeing this.

Horror theme songs, people walking around in clothes with monsters on them, and stores selling Halloween equipment.

It's supposed to be like this, but in my place, we probably just put up the decorations at the front, while putting a pumpkin in the shape of a monster's head. Too old school.

"Mia, where are you taking us?"

"To the clothing store, I've prepared Halloween costumes for you two."

"I hope the costumes don't look weird," I said.

Even though I said that I already know what costumes we were going to wear.

Miss Mia had shown me the picture, that my auntie and I will wear vampire costumes and that's the couples costume version.

I'm imagining both of us wearing those outfits and at the event, we're holding hands like a couple who're enjoying the event.

"Hehehehe."

"Julia looks, that young man is having a dirty thought about you!"

"I'm not!"

"Stop fighting already, you two. I'm like a babysitter taking care of you guys."

We arrived at a large clothing store. Once inside, I noticed a lot of young people looking for costumes for Halloween, and some were already wearing them, although it seems a bit early to me.

It seemed like we wouldn't choose a costume like theirs. Because Miss Mia took us both into a separate room. It's almost like a storage room, but it's too clean to be called a storage room,

Then an employee approached us and handed us a big box, which he handed to Miss Mia.

I could hear some of their conversations, but it wasn't too important.

"Ok you two, here are the costumes." she put the big box on the floor, then open it.

"This is for Julia..."

"What costume are you giving me?"

"You try it on first. There is an empty room next door, usually used for employee breaks, but you can use it to change, and there is no one there."

"I'm tired of arguing with you. Okay, I'll try. Joseph, don't come in, we can switch later."

"Ok, take care."

Then auntie walked into the room and I am alone with this woman.

"You seem to be disappointed that you weren't asked to join in."

"Whatever. In the end, I'll be able to enjoy, ahem, I mean be able to see the costumes that she's wearing."

"Hee..." she gave me a smug face.

"You're really annoying. Anyway, where's my costume?"

"Here's your costume."

After receiving it, I walked over to my aunt and knocked on the door.

"Auntie, are you done?"

"Wait a minute, I'm still trying to put it on, it's so tight... Joseph, can you help for a second?"

Did she really say that? Without hesitation, I go straight in.

"Excuse me..."

Oh... is that Morrigan Aensland costume? I feel like my head is starting to heat up, I might get a nosebleed if I stay here too long.

After that, I helped put the back on. Then I also joined the costume change in the room. Both of us like having teamwork.

"So how was it?" the woman walked in without knocking. "Wow, you really look like a couple from Halloween!"

She immediately took out her cell phone and took a picture of us without hesitation.

That's right, my auntie as Morrigan Aensland and me as Alucard the viscount. What a perfect match.

The next day.

In the car, my aunt and I, were already in our costumes, except for her. She just wears her usual clothes. We felt like we were being pranked by her.

"You guys are so quiet, it's Halloween! Let's have fun!"

I also felt the same feeling of annoyance as my aunt. At that moment we were on the same frequency.

We arrived at the venue. I see that the streets are already crowded with people in costumes. But a lot of them are wearing a comic hero costume, I guess Halloween in the city has evolved, and not all of them are wearing monster costumes.

For a moment I was like a child in a carnival park, but that changed when my hand felt the tight hold of my aunt's hand.

"Auntie, are you okay?"

"Sorry Joseph, I'm really nervous."

"It's okay. While there, I will hold your hand tightly, so will not happen anything."

"Thank you."

It was the first time I saw my aunt like a scared child facing the outside world. I think this is the effect of the deep trauma she faced.

"No need to worry Joseph, I will take care of her too."

I knew her intentions were good to help my aunt to get rid of her trauma. But I couldn't bear the fear my aunt gave off, I can feel it.

It can't be like this! I must be able to give off positive energy.

"That's right, let's have fun!" I said so as I led my aunt out of the car.

Once we got inside, I was amazed at how huge the place was. I guess this place is often used for city events or even concerts.

"Joseph, how was Halloween in your village?"

"It's not like this in my place. We usually gather in the field. We cook meals and sing together."

"Hmm, next year I think I want to try Halloween at your place."

"Unfortunately my place only accepts humans who have a clean heart."

"What do you mean, horny boy?"

We gave each other a piercing look.

We've been here for a while, but auntie hasn't said a single word, I'm starting to worry. I guess Miss Mia feels the same way.

"Joseph, you take care of Julia for a while, I'll find some snacks for us."

"Okay."

She left the two of us alone.

"Auntie, we've been walking for a while, how about we find a seat."

She just nodded.

I immediately pulled her hand. I knew that in this situation, I had to take the initiative to move first.

It wasn't long before we found a bench on the side.

It was very quiet around here, almost no one. Maybe it was because the event had just started, people must have still been excited to enjoy it. It's like I'm taking my parents to an event and it's only been a while but they're already tired.

I unconsciously laughed a little.

"Joseph, why are you laughing?"

"Sorry, I was thinking of something funny."

"You're mocking me, aren't you?"

"I'm not. I really am."

"I just like it when you bring me to a crowd."

"I know I shouldn't talk like this, but... it can't stay like this forever. I guess sooner or later, auntie will have to deal with it."

She just kept quiet.

Just then I felt something from behind me like someone was calling me. No way, a ghost? No way! I'm hallucinating too much.

"Auntie, I need to go to the toilet first. You wait here."

She didn't reply. I think she's still angry because of what I just said.

Then I left her, alone. I hurried to find a toilet nearby. I thought it was close, but it was quite far.

When I reached the restroom, I was surprised by the length of the queue. I forgot that at an event like this, this definitely happens.

While waiting in line, I felt uneasy about leaving her alone. Until I finally finished with my things and came back to her place.

She isn't there.
