Chapter 2

It was a bright and sunny Monday and Zhang Li decided to do some shopping both for grocery and accessories, as the personal secretary of Mr Lu she had been given a company card which she was to use to purchase all office related materials. she also had to move into the apartment complex provided by the company for all its exclusive staffs. She sighed thinking of all the good things the Lu corporation had done for her, after her dad died, things were hard for them as all their money went into his hospital bill for his bone cancer and sadly he couldn't make it ,the pain was just too much for him. Zhang Li was in her final year at high school that time when this tragedy occurred. Figuring that there was going to be no money to send her to the university, she enlisted for a scholarship. Fortunately she was among the 15 people selected for the scholarship examination. She passed with flying colours and was awarded the scholarship. As a gift the Lu corporation gave her family a house after hearing that they were about to be kicked out from their house because the couldn't meet up with the rent deal with a condition that when she returned from her studies overseas, she was going to work as the personal secretary of the CEO.

Deciding to go shopping, Zhang Li failed her childhood friend and longtime best friend, Jin Jing. The latter picked and was ecstatic that her longtime friend was back and accepted to accompany her for shopping as she also needed to buy some things for herself and her daughter.

OMG you have a daughter!!! Zhang Li screams , why didn't you tell me after all the facetime we did when I was in England. You even visited me twice without her. How come?Zhang Li asks confused.

calm down I'll explain when we get to the mall. It's not a story that can be said over the phone. Jin Jing says

okay,let me just freshen up and do so yoga I'll meet you there in two hours. Zhang Li says

okay bye. Jin Jing agrees.

Li na!!!!!!! a man bellows from the sitting room of a run down house.

yes papa. A pretty young lady of 23 runs towards the sitting room.

What is your feedback from the Lu family. The man asks. The name of this man is Li Cheng ,he is her father.

I was hired on the spot to be one of the nannies. Li na answers.

They move to the sofa where they make themselves comfortable as Li Cheng begins to narrate his story....

" I have been the Lu family's butler for 30 years and your mum was the head chef. I met your mum there and fell in love with her and thereafter,we got married. She died when giving birth to your younger brother because she was a little too old for childbirth,the man says with a hint of sadness in his voice. When Your brother-Li feng was two years old, he started having strings of various illnesses and he could not breathe well and sometimes he spat out blood. When he was rushed to the hospital, it was discovered that he had a heart disease and he was also asthmatic making it harder for him to be treated. You were sent to another city to live with your aunt because we had no money. I spent all our money on his expensive drugs and treatments but his situation only got worse . I thought of asking the Lu family for their help but that time their grandson was kidnapped a few days after his third birthday. They were using all their resources to look for him and they were also purging their staffs at that time because it was suspected that a staff was behind it. Sadly, I was one of the staffs who was sacked without pension. I begged and begged for my job to be given back to me but they refused. Having no other option I went to ask for assistance from my distant cousin, the Zhao family. Our family had a feud with the Zhao family but it was put aside because of the deteriorating health of your brother. They agreed to sponsor the surgery of your brother which cost 2.5 million Yuan but tragedy struck and the Lu corporation clinched four business contracts that was meant to be awarded to the Zhao group making them loose billions of yuan's. This made their gross profit drop marginally in the stock market till they reached a negative scale. shareholders were pulling out and selling their shares to the Lu corporation until eventually, The Zhao group folded. Financial assistance could not be provided towards your brother's surgery again. I then decided to take a loan from the bank and was given a time duration to pay up. The first phase of your brother's surgery was done when the bank came knocking . They collected everything we had and forced us to live in the slums". The man completes his story with tears rolling down his face. Li Na clenched her fists and grinds her teeth together her expression one of total anger....she vowed to destroy them but what she did not know was that the real reason her father was sacked was because he aided the kidnappers.
