During the journey, Fanden gazed out of the bus window, observing the cityscape still in the early morning quietness. The day was cold, and people hadn't ventured out much for their activities.
It's only 7 in the morning, so it's understandable that people aren't very active.
In my world back then, at this hour, trains and buses were already packed with people heading to work.
Fanden continued surveying the surroundings; the bus he and Wenny were on moved further away from the city. The bus continued its route, taking them towards the outskirts.
Based on Mazel's recollection, he and his brother worked for a company primarily focused on handling meals... so this bus is taking us towards a graveyard on the outskirts.
In Mazel's memory fragment, he worked as an archaeologist for a renowned company favored by the community. Mazel, as an archaeologist, was currently assigned to analyze a site, more precisely, a tomb near this area.
His younger brother, Wenny, also working for the same company, took on the role of a security officer. Wenny and his colleagues were assigned to guard the tomb and protect it from intruders!
Being a security officer is troublesome, but the pay is decent, and not just anyone can work as a security officer.
Fanden observed how rigidly his brother sat on the seat, maintaining an upright posture without any sign of discomfort on the bus traversing rocky roads!
My back is so sore...
Thought Fanden with a sense of melancholy.
"What's with your attitude, bro? You look so lethargic. Go to the gym and fix your body, instead of sitting in a chair all day," he said sarcastically.
"You're right, besides, I don't have any 'Skills' that can give me an ideal body."
Fanden turned to Wenny, who stared at him with a cold gaze. Wenny didn't appreciate Fanden's know-it-all attitude and belittling of his work.
"You know nothing about my job; it's not just 'Skills'. You're just a researcher living in the world of science. You've never experienced the dangers and challenges I face every day. You don't know how valuable it is to have a strong mentality for this job and how difficult it is to maintain it."
Fanden felt offended by Wenny's words but chose not to prolong their debate. "Yeah, yeah, it's because I got a bad Skill, so I don't know what you feel, okay."
Mazel remained silent, irritated by his brother's response.
Well, an older brother always has to give in to his younger sibling so that they stop whining.
The bus slowly entered the forest, completely changing Fanden's view. The scenery transformed from short grass on the city outskirts to a dense forest of towering green trees. The forest atmosphere provided a mysterious and tranquil impression, while the bus continued its journey without any signs of stopping.
Fanden felt the gentle vibrations of the bus engine breaking the silence of the forest. The sunlight struggled to penetrate the thick canopy, creating patterns of light and shadows dancing along the bus journey. The fresh forest air filled the bus space, bringing the distinctive aroma of nature.
Wenny, noticing his brother lost in thought, nudged him, "Stop looking around, bro. Right now, someone keeps staring at us," he said in a hushed voice.
"Eh, who?"
"Him," Wenny said, pointing to the seat on the right, number 3 from the front.
"Hm, Rudy?"
"Yes, that's his name. Since we got on the bus, he's been staring at us, precisely at you, bro," Wenny said with suspicion in heart.
"Why does he keep looking at me?" Fanden asked, bewildered.
"That's what confuses me. As far as I remember, he keeps bothering you, especially since he openly shows his dislike for you," Wenny said, serious and concerned.
Fanden pondered, attempting to look into Mazel's memory fragment.
I don't know why he keeps staring at me... and in Mazel's memory, Rudy was just constantly bothering him out of envy, so Mazel always ignored him...
So, why is it now? As hard as I try to delve into Mazel's memory fragments, I can't find the reason.
"Do I need to confront him because he keeps bothering you, bro?" Wenny asked, irritated as he looked at Rudy's face, which continued to gaze in their direction.
"Just ignore it; he's always like that. When he's tired, he'll leave on his own."
Wenny frowned, "that's why there are too many people like Rudy around you, like flies, bro. It's all because you always ignore them," he said with a frustrated tone.
"And what do you want? Do you want me to remove them one by one from my sight?"
"Yes!" Wenny replied seriously.
Fanden fell silent, not because he disagreed with Wenny's opinion, but because he also restrained himself from getting rid of the flies that had been around Mazen for a long time!
I also want to get rid of these flies soon, but there are too many of them!
If I do it the wrong way, more flies will come to me... I have to think about it slowly.
