Arina's POV:
"Ah!" I dodged the sharp projectiles made of ice that came my way by ducking down and performing a split.
'I'm actually putting up a good fight.' I thought, looking at the B-Ranked Hunter I was going up against.
Not longer than a few minutes ago, I, Serena and Luz were escorted to the arena where we would be taking our Test.
For every Hunter Centre, the test differed slightly, from completing complicated missions to fighting Drachs.
'I hoped you were right this time, Serena.' I thought because we were told that the test was going to be conducted differently.
We were going to be going up against B-Ranked Hunters who would, after a test choose a rank for us, depending on how well we did.
The woman who escorted us here had taken us to a large arena which was at least 10 miles long from the centre. It was like a gladiator ring, the one we first took the Drach Test with. But instead of the ground being made of dirt and uncompleted buildings, it was made of a white tile from the ground and small mini houses scattered around the place.
The goal was for us to try to last ten minutes against the B-ranked Hunter.
"You will be taking the test together as a group against three B-ranked Hunter examiners." The lady that brought us here said back then and we had just nodded.
I noticed that there were numerous seats going upwards but only a few scattered not numbering up to twenty were there. They included mostly the participants and a few Hunters who I could tell were hunters because of the badges they wore.
[Author note: The colors go like this from lowest rank to highest: White, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Purple]
I was currently going up against one of the B-Ranked Hunters, a male man who was an Ice Caster or something close to that. He was a young man, still in his twenties. He had bluish-green hair straight hair that glowed like a lava lamp. He wore the Spair Uniform, a blue two piece suit with black trims across the edges of the sleeves and collars with black shiny boots. His name was Isaac Wyebrite.
He had me hiding in one of the mini houses, constantly shooting out ice attacks from the outside.
"I'll just freeze the place." I heard him say from behind a wall. The small houses were shaped like half of a rounded-edged cylinder, with the other half looking to have been buried in the ground. (There is no bottom half. Just a way of making the description easier to understand).
I felt a chill run down my spine as the wall I was leaning on began to drop in temperature. I had promised myself that I wouldn't use my Seraph powers, not that I had any spell that could heat up the place. I wanted to grow stronger with my original casting.
The wall actually began to freeze over in ice and I leaned off of it.
"Light Casting:..." I whispered to myself, still thinking of the Spell I could use.
I currently had only 5 in my arsenal: Light Board, Ray Blast, Sun Field, Halo Fists and Sceptre of Heavens which was one I had unlocked when battling the Queen. At least that's what Zake told me.
"I got it. Light Casting: Halo Fists!" I casted silently, my fists beginning to pulsate a powerful white color. I jumped to the ceiling of the mini house which was relatively small and the impact caused a large hole through the ceiling.
"What the?" Isaac, the examiner said shocked by my actions.
I stopped the Halo Fists spell and casted the Light Board instead and began to float higher into the air.
"Ice Casting: Frost Pulse!" I heard Isaac cast from below and an ice attack coming at me in the speed and shape of a lightning bolt came towards.
It took only a second to close the gap between us and It was too fast for me to dodge. The attack made contact with the yellow shoe on my left leg and began to spread ice on it.
"It's gonna spread." I shaked the yellow shoe off my leg until it fell off, lost somewhere in the arena.
I looked at my other leg, with the shoe still intact and my feet felt awkward with only one shoe.
'How does Anne do it?' I snapped out of my thoughts as my body instinctively ducked down and avoided another Frost Pulse attack.
"Enough of that. I need to go find my friends." I said to myself, getting back up carefully as I moved with the aid of the Light Board in the air with the examiner not far from me. I also took off my other shoe.
Serena's POV:
'Of all people, I get one with water magic.' I thought, dodging a pump of water that had been released from the examiner I was going up against. I had already casted my Speed Suit to add acceleration to my movements.
I was out in the open, far from any mini house.
'I guess it does make sense. This being the Spair Family.' I thought since everyone knew that like the Yuzuro family, the Spair family mostly accepted those with a specific group of magic. The group included Water, Ice, Air, mist, et. cetera. 90% of the soldiers of the Spair Family had these abilities.
The Examiner I was going up against was a woman in her early thirties. She had dark green long hair and a cold stare unlike the one Arina was going up against who always had a confident look. Her name was Kain.
She shot another round of condensed blasts of water towards me so I dodged them by jumping into the air but these ones seemed to have followed me into the air.
"I have no momentum." I thought, panicking since I knew that my suit didn't have the ability to move through the air. I searched my mind which my parents often called intelligent, thinking of the solution.
"I can't dodge in mid air so I just have to.. aha." I noticed a mini house right next to me. I used my leg through the suit to kick the edge of the building and pushing me down to the ground. The blasts of water were already close to me by the time I had kicked the building so they had hit the wall of the building which had been cracked due to the force I had used.
I looked over to see the Examiner but she was no where to be seen. Suddenly, what looked like a tentacle made of water came towards me and wrapped around my arm tightly.
"Ah!" I screamed in pain at the sudden force. I looked above to see the Examiner with water that wrapped around her arms and legs in the form of tentacles.
'Let me think.' I sought for a solution in my head. My current Spells were Speed Suit, Strength Suit and Boost Ring. I couldn't really use the Boost Ring on myself and even if I could, It wouldn't be enough.
I was then dragged into the air and from the Examiner's free hand which no longer had water in the form of a tentacle, she had released a ball of water which wrapped itself around my head. She was using two Spells at the same time. I had never seen that before. Not even Arina did that when she was in that form. I knew of this fact because Luz and Zane had told me secretively.
"If only I was.. Huh?" I felt the force that was gripping me and the water around my water had fallen to the ground and turned into regular water.
I looked up and I saw my friend passing by with something huge behind her.
"Luz!!"
Luz' POV:
I was going up against a male Hunter by the name of Lee. He was tall, had straight black hair and wore a black jumpsuit with a blue scarf over his neck. He always had this cool and calm smile on his face that I couldn't make out well. All I knew is that he looked to be at least 20 and was super handsome. Damnit Luz, concentrate.
He was currently in the mini house I had just left and was currently watching him from behind another one. It seemed that he was trying to catch me by surprise since he probably thought I was hiding behind a large object in that 20 metre wide mini house.
When I moved closer towards him, I noticed his body by the window and I knew I had the perfect chance to attack with my newest Spell. I currently had only four Spells: Past Encounter, Color Sphere, Frame Work and Rainbow Arc.
"Color Casting: Rainbow Arc!" I had said that last bit too loud due to my excitement at the chance of being able to defeat him. Nevertheless, my Rainbow colored crescent attack had been shot out. I thought it was gonna hit him since it was a small and fast Spell.
Instead, he had reacted in time and out from his hands, blue tentacles had formed and he used it to grab my Spell and began to absorb it by turning it into water.
"That's such an.. AWESOME CASTING MAGIC!!" I said too loudly and he had heard me this time if he hadn't already heard the last time.
He turned to me, his face still showing that cool smile as he shot out his tentacles which had elongated. In response, I activated my Color Sphere.
"Color Sphere!" I said as the swirl of rainbow magic covered me in the shape of a 3 dimensional circle.
As the tentacles touched the Color Sphere, it began to melt and change into water. This lovable hunter was siphoning my magic, I thought as I quickly stopped the Spell and began to run towards the direction I had seen Serena in.
I ran in that direction with all the speed I could master, using the technique the Queen Family had taught me I ran on the walls and top of the mini houses but I saw someone else that was looking for me.
"Ari.." I covered the big mouth of mine because it seemed that I had finally lost the cutie, I mean Hunter named Lee but I had also seen my friend flying with her Light Board and she looked like she was looking for me.
My thoughts were interrupted when I saw the female hunter from before with water covering her arms in the form of wicked, cool tentacles.
"I have to help Serena! The rules don't state we can't."
As I was approaching Serena by jumping from roof top to roof top if it could even be called a roof, I couldn't help but notice that a large shadow was covering my head and that's when I saw it, a large horse made out of water.
"Like a Kelpie!" I thought since I had wide knowledge on mythology.
Nevertheless, even with the giant Kelpie following me and it's legs just going through the mini houses, I still had to get to Serena.
General POV:
Arina noticed a large blast of water had been shot into the sky when the Kelpie had been destroyed by a combined effort from Serena and Luz, she finally knew where they were. So she got there immediately with her own Examiner having already caught her.
Meanwhile, the Examiner Lee had just summoned up the Kelpie again and with Kain, they went towards Serena who began to run away from both of them.
At the same time, Arina was heading towards their direction with the Light Board. The reason why the Spell had lasted so long was because she had borrowed an extra slot from an Open Gem. Just then, her Light Board had been hit by what she assumed to be that ice attack from before had been thrown again by Isaac and she began to fall to the ground.
Luckily, Serena and Luz saw her coming from the air since her shadow was getting closer to the ground so they caught her in time.
At the same time, the three examiners appeared in front of them and the three girls were prepared to fight.
"Let's do this together."-Arina
"I'm ready when you are."-Serena
"Color, Mech and Light. They don't stand a chance."-Luz
"The three of you pass. The rank you shall be given is.." Three cards teleported into the examiners' hands which they had stuck out.
"D rank. The reason you weren't given any higher is because the three of you tried to avoid your problems instead of facing it head on. Sometimes, you might not be around for each other. Also, none of you tried to engage in hand to hand combat." They said as the three of them had gotten red cards with their names on it.
They would have been more happy if they got C rank but at least they didn't get the lowest rank.
Internally, they all said the same thing.
'Yes!'
