CHLOE'S POV

"No, Max" Jenny said in a sweet tone.

"We were just talking about you not showing up last night." She rolled her eyes and went back to eating her lasagne.

"I'm sorry." Max mumbled. His cold glare stayed on Jenny then turned back at me with an apologetic smile.

I nodded not looking back at him. Unlike Jenny, I just could not focus on eating. My mind kept drifting towards Raphael and our night together. He had been so...so. I was running out of adjectives to describe how much of a spectacular lover he had been.

Turned out experience does matter, and Raphael seemed to have a lot of it. He certainly knew his way around a woman's body. If anything, last night had finally fulfilled my desire to be with a real man.

So deep in my thought, I hadn't noticed that Max was saying something to me, and now he and Jenny were waiting for my answer, looking at me with a frown on their faces.

So, once again, I had no idea what he was telling me. Absent mindedly, I sipped on my cola and I felt Jenny kick me from under the table so the black liquid was spilled on my shirt.

"What the hell?" I blurted out.

"Hey, Chloe, are you okay?" Max suddenly stood up and tried to help me by wiping my chest with his hands but I jerked it away. "Hey!"

"I'm sorry." I shook my head as reached for a table napkin and wiped my shirt. I saw Jenny from the corner of my eyes that she was smirking secretly.

"You were saying..?" I looked up at Max as he drew closer to me, his hand now on my thighs.

"l said, don't forget that we're going to meet my best friend tonight." He muttered. "I promise you it will be the best night of your life."

I let out a fake laugh, thinking how absurd it is to believe going out with Max and his best friend would be the best night ever. "Meeting your best friend will be the best night of my life?"

Max gave me a smirk with a bit of a shrug, as he ran his hand over my thigh.

Standing in my room with clothes thrown all over the place, I made what resembled a wild animal noise out of frustration.

Max forgot to tell me we would be going out to dinner with his best friend at some bar in town.

Although a bar is nothing fancy, I still feel like I should dress nicely despite the fact almost all my clothes are sweatpants, leggings, and hoodies except of course for the dress that I

Wore last night.

After a few more minutes of stomping around my room, I decided to settle for my black high waist skirt, a white lace long-sleeved bodysuit, and my lace-up boots.

Looking in the mirror, I smiled as I spun around.

I bought this bodysuit with my best friend Jenny last summer but I never got the chance to wear it because there was no occasion that suited it.

Turning to open my door, I was cut off by the sound of my phone ringing,

Facing my messy room once more to figure out where l left it. I located it on my desk, which was already littered with papers and textbooks for the semester. "Hello?"

"Hey babe, it's Jenny," my best friend said over the phone. "Are you going out with Max now to meet his best friend?"

"Yeah," l answered. "Do you want to join us?" I was sorry I forgot to invite her earlier but it was Max's plan after all and not mine.

"Oh, it's okay. I'm fine being alone here in the house." she laughed. "Don't let that Raphael stuck in your mind again and ruin your dinner, babe. Enjoy!"

"Alright," I rasped, hanging up my phone.

Sighing, I took another look in the mirror that was hung on the back of my door. My makeup was light and my blonde hair was down in soft waves. I forced myself to smile. I will have a good time tonight and I will not let

Raphael ruin my moment with Max.

Nodding my head in approval of my new mantra, I went to the living room where my boyfriend was seated, waiting for me.

Looking up from the television screen,Max smiled. "You look pretty as always."

"Thank you," I responded, grabbing my purse from the coffee table. "Let's go?" Max nodded. He wasn't dressed casually, but he wasn't dressed particularly fancy. Wearing a black

dress shirt and dark-washed jeans, he

looked comfortable but in a stylish way.

We climbed inside his car and drove off.

When we reached the bar, Max's phone chimed the same ringtone as earlier today. He looked down and frowned."It's uh, Dad. I'm going to take this, just get a drink at the bar and I will be there in a few moments."

What? His family, again?

Huffing furiously, I walked alone into the dimly lit pub.
