Mimi listened attentively to Cael's command, then nodded. "Yes, Master! You can rely on Mimi. Mimi will cheer the poor guys up. Hey, you! Stop being so scared! The sky's up, and things only fall down!"
Carver dared to open his eyes, then closed it again. "My head spins when I look there."
"No, it doesn't. Stays right where it is," Mimi denied. "Oh, look, a lizard!"
Carver reflexively opened his eyes to where, indeed, a small lizard stopped to rest on a stone. In the next moment, it dashed away and hid in the grass.
"Wow," Carved breathed out. "It was like a rat, but so smooth! Was it a patina?"
"The what?" Mimi blinked. "Oh, look, berries! Oww, they are sour!"
The berries were green and, while not poisonous, very unripe. Still, Carver looked much less afraid of the surface when Mimi was there to distract him all the time, so Cael considered his choice of helper good enough.
The next few days proved him right.
