Stuck in the Third Wave

Not knowing the full story always leads to misunderstandings. And I was annoyed with Jon Ho because I didn't know the entire story yet.

(Ten Minutes Before I Called Jin Ho)

After making her sit on a bench, Jin Ho did not know what to do next. He had without fail told Mi Rae to stop crying. And having nothing else to say, he repeated the same words again. "Mi Rae, stop the act", he said, indicating that he had zero trust in her tears.

However, Mi Rae had something on her mind. She told him: "I'm not acting", though it would be hard for Jin Ho to believe her. She then said: "The truth is that ever since you left me, bad things keep happening to me. It is as if I am being punished for the way I treated you."

"What do you mean? Has something happened?" Jin Ho asked as he still had trust issues with this girl, so he had to determine whether she was telling the truth or telling a story.

She went on to reply by saying: "Dad has cancer and the doctor says it is malignant. And mom is also gradually losing her sight. Now, she can't read a thing on her own and hardly identifies people. I'm so sorry Jin Ho. Please forgive me so that my life can continue running smoothly", she begged him.

"I have already forgiven you", Jin Ho said and her clouded face slowly cleared up.

Even with that she still asked: "Really?" And Jin Ho affirmed by saying, "Yes, I am being honest."

"Can we do a pinky swear?" She asked as she wanted enough evidence to prove that she had been forgiven.

"Are we kids?" Jin Ho asked as he didn't see the need for this. But with fear in her eyes, she told him: "I need to be convinced."

Jin Ho could read her emotions and saw that she was at the edge of a cliff, hence he gave her his mighty hand. "Alright, here you go", he said. The two locked their pinkies (little fingers) together and placed their thumbs together as well.

Once they were done, she said: "Copy."

"Even that?" Jin Ho asked. But he gave in and said: "Fine, copy." She slid her palm past Jin Ho's and the two copied the promise. Now, Mi Rae was no longer gloomy again.

She now asked Jin Ho, "So, after the breakup, how have things been for you?"

"Great", he said the truth.

"I see. Do you have a girlfriend?" She asked and he said with great confidence: "Yes, I do."

Mi Rae smiled at him and said: "I'm so happy for you. And I'm jealous of her. I'm sure she's pretty, right?" She asked one question but surprisingly received this answer: "Pretty, kind and loving", Jin Ho said.

She had asked if I was pretty but not if I was kind or loving, hence Mi Rae told Jin Ho: "Stop it. Why do you have to overly praise your girlfriend before your ex-girlfriend?" She asked a good question after which her stomach began to make some great musical beats.

Jin Ho looked at her tummy and the next thing was that they were in the restaurant.

"Thanks for the food. I hope that we never meet again after today. It feels embarrassing", she said to him after her order had been served.

"Me too", Jin Ho replied but received a call right then. "Hold on", he said and went out to pick the call.

That call was from me and the aftermath of the call had just happened.

After I had left him in the restaurant, Jin Ho broke down.

"Jin Ho, are you okay?" Mi Rae asked the lifeless soul.

But with a lot of anger, he asked her: "Did you know about this?"

"What are you talking about?" Mi Rae asked whilst shrugging her shoulders.

"Just get lost", Jin Ho said to her softly as he didn't want to cause a scene.

"Hey, oppa!" Mi Rae was upset. Nevertheless, he told her: "Stop calling me oppa. It creates a lot of misunderstanding."

He then left the restaurant. Mi Rae tilted her head backwards and passed her hands through her hair.

Taking them out, she asked herself: "Why is he so angry? Perhaps, is she his girlfriend?"

As I walked alongside Ra Ra, I told her: "He didn't even chase after me. He didn't try to stop me from leaving though I walked in slow motion."

"That only works in movies, and not in real life", Ra Ra revealed.

"But why did he have to lie?" I asked her and she said: "Amy, he might have his reasons."

"What reasons?" I asked her.

"I don't want to make guesses but you two need to talk things out", she suggested but I told her: "My head aches right now."

"Let's get you home first. Then after you have gotten enough rest, you two can sort matters out", she made a suggestion once more and asked me: "Agreed? Are we good?"

"Yeah", I said in reply. "Let's go", she placed her arm around my neck and moved my weighty body which felt loaded with sadness.

Since Jin Ho's apartment was still under investigation, he was staying at Virel's mansion. After unlocking the door and heading inside, a boy in a hoodie said to him: "Yo my bro, what's up man!"

Jin Ho raised his head and saw his friend. "Virel, when did you come back?" He asked him with pure joy.

"Today", his good friend replied.

"I have really missed you", Jin Ho confessed. As to the true reason behind this, he didn't mention.

"I guess I shouldn't have traveled then", Virel said with a smile.

"Yes, why did you travel for a week?" Jin Ho asked him.

"You already know the answer to that, don't you?" Virel asked him and Jin Ho replied back by asking: "So how did things go?"

Virel placed his bag down and got himself an iced drink. After gulping it down, he took his laptop and began to explain everything to Jin Ho.

He told him: "That agent with a scar still refused to confess but after taking his burner phone to the best software company in the US, we got the entire call history of this guy."

"So, who was ordering him around?" Jin Ho asked.

V then showed him the report on his laptop whilst explaining it further by saying: "After tracking the number, we noticed two things."

Jin Ho looked at him and back at the laptop's screen. Going through the call history, Jin Ho was shocked at the number of calls he was seeing.

V went on to say: "All these calls were shady calls and half of the calls received came from Seoul whilst the other half came from Pyongyang, North Korea."

That statement really alarmed Jin Ho, so he asked V: "Does this mean that he was working with the North?"

"Definitely", Virel confirmed before saying: "But one call came from the president's residence."

"What?" Jin Ho was shocked at this.

And V cautioned him by saying: "However, this information is not in the report so please keep it confidential."

"Sure thing", Jin Ho replied. He kept scrolling down and saw something interesting. On the laptop, he could see the details of the phone calls. So he asked Virel: "What about their communication?"

V replied him saying: "We were able to obtain some of the calls. And in it, we took note of three main things. The first is that Scar wanted to become the next NIS chief and he had the backing of many. The second was that both South Korea and North Korea should be reunified. And the last thing was about a secret army base."

Out of all the three, Jin Ho asked: "A secret army base?" That one was quite serious.

"Weird right?" V asked and went ahead to say: "Our findings raise some questions, such as: Why did they want that agent with a scar to become the next chief? Also, why a sudden reunification? And, what is the purpose of this secret army base and where is it located? Is it in South Korea or North Korea?"

Well, it was easy to think that it would be in North Korea but here in South Korea, the secret army base was about to be closed down.

The casual wear man came to his boss and said: "Sir, I think that we really need to leave. The NIS have gathered too much information after arresting Scar."

"Alright. But we can't leave empty handed", he mentioned.

"What do you mean?" His main man asked.

The boss then asked: "Who was the cause of our downfall?" And the obvious answer was given by his main man. He said: "Joon Jin Ho."

"How on earth did he manage to discover the right file?" The boss wondered and said: "Anyway, since he made us lose everything, we need to make him lose everything. And the most precious thing to him is she, Amy Lee." He kept pointing at me in one of the pictures he had.

"Let's add her to our luggage", he instructed his main man.

"Yes sir", he replied and went ahead to accomplish his mission.

At Virel's house, Jin Ho told him: "This is massive intelligence gathered. It looks like something big, extremely big is being planned. Have you told uncle yet?" He asked.

"Not yet", Virel answered. He then said: "To be honest, this is confidential."

"And yet you revealed it to me", Jin Ho added.

"That's right. We are brothers, aren't we?" Virel asked him. The two laughed out loud and Jin Ho said: "Then, can I also reveal something confidential to you?"

"Yes, what is it?" Virel asked. He looked ready to hear Jin Ho out.

Jin Ho then went to his room and got the files he was sent ready. Once he came out, he handed the files over to Virel whilst saying: "Look at this."

Virel went through the information slowly and once he was done, he asked: "What is this? Are you really…" he was totally surprised.

"Yes, it's true", Jin Ho replied.

Virel's eyes widened as he asked with a lot of shock: "How come? You don't look anything like them", he added.

"Hey, stop it", Jin Ho said to him.

"Alright, I will. But does Amy know about this?" He asked the confused man.

"I am scared to tell her", Jin Ho confessed.

Virel couldn't believe his answer. "Why?" Virel asked and Jin Ho bowed his head down in shame. Like a slow disk being played, he said: "She might no longer want to be with me again."

"Hey, are you crazy? If she loves you, she would accept you for who you are, there's no need to worry", V encouraged him but he was still downhearted.

The third wave was still underneath and was yet to be taken care of.
