Poppy's Memoir

In my room, I saw something unusual. Poppy had left her memoir on her bed. Maybe she forgot as a result of me not being around.

I was curious to find out the things she had written in it but as a well trained lady, I wasn't going to touch it… with my hands.

Upon getting some gloves on, I reached out for the memoir and flipped its pages.

"Let's see. What secret is my sister hiding?" I asked myself as I opened the book.

Then I started reading it out loud. In her memoir, she had written: "Dear diary, this is my first day writing to you. I don't know what to say first, but… umm, yeah, let's start with today's event. This morning, my sister washed her clothes. But since I felt lazy to wash mine, I mixed it up with hers and she didn't notice. Then, in the afternoon, I wanted to go out but mom told her to stand guard over me. So do you know what I did? I massaged her feet. Whenever my sister gets her feet massaged, she falls asleep. And thankfully my plan worked. She woke up after I had arrived and thought that she had done a good job at guarding me. And in the evening, dad brought in a bucket of chicken. When the last piece of chicken was left, Amy went for it and ate in a haste. But when she went to sleep, I ate a whole bucket by myself. How? Dad received a promo code but knew nothing about it. So I sent the code and received the chicken. After which, I enjoyed it by myself. I thank God so much for having such a dumb and exciting sister."

"POPPY!!!" I released the anger from my body. She was definitely going to hear from me once she returned home.

At school, my sister had a good friend. Her name was Su Jin. The two were completely different. As Poppy was tall, slim, slender and dumb, her friend was short, fat, no obese and intelligent.

Su Jin came to Poppy's desk with a message.

"Poppy, the midterm exam results are out. Want to check it?" She asked.

Before my sister could utter a word, the leader of a group of girls said: "Why bother when you already know your spot?"

She was the second best student. But since the best student didn't take part in the midterm exams, it was obvious that she would come on top.

"I will check it", my sister boldly replied. "If I'm five places up, you will clean the gym for a week", she dared the intelligent one.

The leader of the girls group said: "And if you are still at the bottom, you will clean there for a month. Deal?" She was really cruel in negotiations.

Su Jin mumbled the words, "Poppy don't", but my sister was very stubborn.

"Deal!" She agreed.

After they had made this deal, the whole school got noisy and those who didn't know kept asking: "Why is everyone gathering around?"

And the reply they received was always: "There's a battle between the first and the last."

"Really? Let's go watch it", they would react after hearing the news.

Everyone in the school encircled the two contenders. Who was going to win the battle?

The judge had a magnifying glass in his hands despite wearing a biconcave lens.

Slowly, he mentioned the names from bottom to the top.

"From the bottom, we have Park Kyung Soo, Ji Sae Ri, Hyung Tae Mi, Lee…"

Everyone opened their ears well to hear the name.

"Lee… Pyun Til, Lee Poppy", he finally mentioned.

"Yes, I didn't come out last. I came up by five places", she exclaimed joyfully.

"Four places", a voice sweeter than guitar strings sounded amongst the audience. Everyone went back and the noise began.

"Oh my gosh! It's Jeremy from CREW!" Many girls were giggling around him.

And my sister's archenemy drew closest to him. "Oppa!" She said with an angelic voice totally different from the vixen's voice she had used with my sister.

"Just look at her. Indeed a fox", Poppy muttered.

"Hey, you. What do you mean by four places?" My sister asked that super hot guy.

"If I had taken the exam, where do you think I would have been?" He asked and the answer was given in unison: "First place!!!"

Her archenemy laughed at my sister and told her: "Gym cleaning, one month."

Annoyed by his actions, my sister showed why she was the daughter of Lee Dong Ju.

"You!!!" She exclaimed and jumped into the air with her right leg perfectly positioned for a subcutaneous kick.

But before her leg could land in the smooth face, the owner of the face caught her leg with his hand and told her: "At least before throwing your leg, get your direction right. You nearly kicked the principal."

She turned to her right and nearly fainted.

"Miss Poppy Lee, come to my office right now!" The principal instructed and my sister sorrowfully followed her. Maybe I would have sympathized with her if she hadn't written those things about me.

At the NIS Headquarters, things weren't still looking good until Jin Ho arrived.

Upon entering the Cybercrime Department, he left the dog in the hands of one agent and went ahead to ask his uncle: "How are things so far?"

"We are trying to hold them but they are so good", he replied.

"Let me have a look", he said and went ahead to look at the sophisticated monitors before some of the most skilled agents.

"Can you handle this?" His uncle asked. With confidence, Jin Ho answered: "At least I can till Virel comes."

He then pushed one agent aside and took over his computer. Punching the keys of the keyboard with great speed, he was decoding something and in two minutes time, he was done.

"I just blocked them from accessing security files", he reported and moved to another agent's computer.

He said to them as he sat before that computer: "Now I need to find their backdoor. Which file could it be?" He asked himself as he opened a list of long files which weren't on the computer screen.

"I need to find it before they get rid of it", he said as he scrolled through the thousands of files at great speed. Finally, he spotted two files which were likely to be the answer to their problems.

But they were a puzzle for one was a corrupt file which was meant to destroy their system whilst the other was for the bad guys.

Jin Ho couldn't tell which was which, and as he grew extremely anxious, he recalled what happened at the restaurant. When the waiter asked us to choose a wine, we didn't know what will suite our taste. So, he gave us two options and I chose from the two.

At that time, Jin Ho asked me: "Amy, which wine should we go for?"

Without thinking much about it, I replied to him saying: "The one on the left."

"Why?" He asked.

In reply, I said in a silly manner: "It means that one is friendly. It might seem to be on the left, but it is actually on the right."

After recalling that conversation, Jin Ho said to himself: "Amy, I will go with your suggestion."

He moved the cursor towards the file on the left and clicked on it. But did it work?

In the office of the evil boss, the man who always came in casual wear, returned once more with feedback.

"Sir, we are destroyed", he reported.

"What nonsense are you talking about?" He asked and the man proceeded to say: "Finally,we have lost the cyber war sir."

"What? How did they do that? I asked you to prevent Virel from going there", the boss was furious.

"Yes we did. He doesn't know anything about this. Rather, it was the doing of Joon Jin Ho", the man mentioned.

"Who's he?" He asked and the man told him: "We haven't confirmed it yet, but it seems like he is Ri Won Jae's son."

"He's alive?" The boss got up from his seat and started trembling.

"He destroyed everything. Absolutely everything", his voice was filled with panic.

The man in casual wear told him: "Sir, I think we need to lie low and get out of the country in the meantime. This is not the right time to…"

"Are you going to tell me when to act? Kill him", the boss instructed.

"What?" The man was confused.

"Kill Joon Jin Ho", the boss ordered one more time.

"It won't be easy. He's got the NIS on his side", the man mentioned.

"Then get him in their bad books or make it impossible for them to intervene. And also find out his weakness and use it against him", the boss instructed his servant.

"Yes sir", he replied firmly and left the room.

At the NIS Headquarters, as some of the agents celebrated and praised Joon Jin Ho for his hard work, others questioned him from afar.

"What if he is working with the bad guys?" One agent with a scar on his face told three agents who were with him.

One of the three said: "I don't get what you are saying."

But a second agent who agreed with the first explained things further by saying: "Some agents can plant stuff and make it seem like they fixed it."

Then the one with the scar added: "He's not even an agent. So what is he doing here?"

"Well, he is helping", the fourth agent mentioned.

"Helping?" The other agent who agreed with the first one clearly told the two doubters: "If that guy didn't arrive, who would have handled this problem?"

"You would", the agent with a scar told one of the doubters.

"But what did that man, Lee Won Taek do?" The other evil agent asked. He then said: "Lee Won Taek sent you to perform a wasteful task just so that you won't be there to handle the situation. That guy Virel already annoyed me and now we have to deal with Virel's boss as well, this is so annoying. We can't sit back and watch as some strangers take over the NIS. This is a security service for the people of this country. And if we agents are lenient and allow outsiders to invade our privacy, then the country's privacy and security will be at a larger risk."

The doubters were now confused. But in order to get them on their side, the evil agent with a scar said slyly: "Think of it, before that guy Virel was coming here, did we ever experience this continuous military attack?"

"You have a point", the agent who felt cheated at this point agreed with them. And surprisingly, he suggested the worst idea. "Let's get rid of them."

The two evil agents whisked a slight smile across their faces.

"What? Are you crazy? Do you want us to get rid of them?" The last guy who had still not been convinced asked.

"Ri Won Taek is his true name. He's a North Korean", the evil agent with a scar mentioned.

"What? A North Korean is in the NIS?" The last one exclaimed.

"Keep your voice down. You know what, let us investigate Ri Won Taek and Joon Jin Ho, I am sure that they got something to do with the North", the second evil agent advised.

"But what if they try to harm us?" The last good agent asked.

"That's why we need to do this secretly. Investigate them without anyone's knowledge or suspicion", the one with the scar gave the order and the three said in unison: "Got it, sir."

"Now let's join them in celebration", the evil leader urged them and they did just as he wanted.
