17 Chapter 17 - Grieving wolf

Ten years later:

The night was dark and loud with little wolves howling. It was shifting season and many younger ones have started to change into their wolf form.

She read through the reports with a deep frown.

Ten years have passed, and the war was getting worse. The werewolf population has started a wholesale war against humans as well. Vampire though they might seem scarce, held so many important positions in the human world.

When werewolves started to attack them so openly, it sparked the feud between humans and werewolves, thus…. The second war between the three species began.

Rue sighed loudly. The northern covens were all destroyed. The vampires were all crucified in the sun and burned alive. The photos were too much to look at.

Even though the arctic tribe was the leading cause of it Rue was not able to control any of them.

'Only Dylan can… but he's too young now.. I hope he is able to tame these wild beasts.'

Suddenly, the whole building started to tremble violently.

Rue shot out of her chair and ran down in a hurry. It was happening again..

The bright moonlight cast in the hallways as she ran.

'Fuck I forgot it was a full moon! Fuck!!!' she dashed down to the basement and to a vault-like door.

Inside, loud growling and scratching sounds were heard.

"Alpha…." A middle-aged woman worriedly glanced at her.

"How bad is it?"

"It's getting worse with each passing moon. His wolf is grieving…. It's out of control…. If this goes on we have to…put him down"

Rue grabbed her by the throat and pinned her to the wall. "The next time you spew shit like that, I will tear your head off and hang it out on the porch. Got it?"

The middle-aged woman gulped. "g-got it,"

"You saw nothing, and you heard nothing…"

She sighed loudly, leaning on the door. She could feel Dylan's agitated wolf even from out the door. The whole place was trembling.

it was the second year they had to deal with it. When Dylan was just eight years old, he awakened his wolf and from then on his suffering began. Every full moon, the Alpha wolf would break out of him and would howl and wail loudly.

Dylan's wolf was grieving for his mate.

It was a very sad sight to see.

To protect her brother from others' eyes. she build the new packhouse specially and made it earthquake proof. The walls were very thick like a bunker and can even handle a nuclear strike.

Dylan's wolfs' attacks were just as powerful.

"howlll!!!!!"

"Fuck…." she pranced in front of the door, mustering the courage to walk in.

Her own wolf was cowering in the back of her mind. it feared the Alpha king's rage and fury.

"Alpha… he is suffering…" the nanny whispered softly.

"he… he is strong. He can overcome it…"

This has been going on for a while. Since she was consumed by the pack duties, she could not take good care of her brother.

Reluctantly, she let one middle-aged widower into her packhouse. No one else was allowed in. and the nanny was not allowed to go outside.

It was practically imprisonment, but the nanny was getting paid well.

Rue had to stone her heart a lot these passing years. It had not been so easy.

She swiftly removed her shirt and pants and, only in her innerwear, she shifted into her wolf form. Her gleaming white fur shone in the artificial light. She shook her fur off, fluffing it a bit.

The nanny handed her the phone.

With the phone in her mouth, she then gestured for the nanny to open the door.

Gulping, the woman unlocked the deadbolts and latches and opened the door for her.

Rue walked in and the door closed after her. She gently placed the phone by the door.

"grrrrrr…." A loud growl was hard to her side.

A small blond wolf was huddled below the bed, howling and whining. his bright blue eyes were filled with tears.

She tottered close. The wolf pup charged at her.

Rue did not play with him. she dodged his attack and simply grabbed him by his scuff. The little wolf struggled, growling and whining.

Every growl left the whole building trebling.

Even Rue felt her wolf's instinctive desire to lay down and surrender to his calls.

"howl!!!" she howled back.

The little wolf became quiet again. And the struggling ceased.

She let him down and gently licked his face. The poor pup's face was wet with tears.

'It's my fault.... Dylan…' she shifted back and gently held him onto her lap. "Dylan,"

The wolf slightly growled at her.

"Please calm down….. Your small body won't be able to handle it…" he gently wiped the snot from his nose.

The little blond wolf trembled and sniffled.

"shhh.. shh… wait a bit," she reached for the phone and switched on the familiar video. After listening to it for so long, the video had already corrupted, but the audio was still clear.

{'Come on Rue, are you seriously taking photos while eating? Aren't you hungry? Ai thought you were,'} Nicolai's voice echoed in the small room.

The blond wolf calmed down completely. As usual, he crawled close to the phone and whimpered. With his snout, he sniffed and even tried to lick the screen.

Rue stopped him. "You hear him… that was your mate… he might not be with us physically but.. He lives in our memories." She whispered gently, kissing his head.

The baby wolf instantly turned into a young ten-year-old boy. the child's straight blond hair had grown to his shoulders and was hiding his eyes.

Rue gently moved them away from his face.

His clear blue eyes looked at him sadly. The poor kid had bit into his lips and it was bleeding. "I.. I'm sorry… I'm sorry I lost control of him again… he misses his mate….he cries and cries and cries… I don't know what to do…" he sobbed.

"Oh baby," Rue hugged him tightly. She did not have words to console him.

Even for a grown Wolf losing their mate would leave them half dead. This poor child had to suffer such a life at such a young age.

It was all her fault. She never should have brought Nico to the delivery room that day. it was all because of her fault her baby brother was suffering so much.

The mate bond was not fully connected. That's why Dylan was still able to rein in his wolf. If not, things would have gone awry long back.

{'Rue! Oh my god, you spilled ketchup on my shoes! It's white god darn it! it's going to stain!'} Nico's voice shouted.

Rue chuckled.

"Rue… was he the best?"

"Yes, he was the best."

"Tell me about him," he eagerly sat in front of her.

Rue pulled the blanket from the bed and wrapped his small body.

"well…He loved to eat.. He loved to talk a lot.. He was kind and an amazing person.." she gently pinched his pale cheeks.

Dylan whimpered. "When will I meet him… I can calm wolfie down when I meet him. He wants him.. and I want him too…"

Rue simply hugged him. "After hundred years…"

After a hundred years Dylan would grow old and…. Then..maybe then.. he can meet Nico.

This fated pairs can only meet in the afterlife.
